Terrible place for emplyment. Un-organized office while lacking in compliance and processes. Christina did not fulfill my employment contract that stated I would receive a busy season bonus. Never received health insurance and was under the impression it would be a long-term employment opportunity; however, Christina only used me as a busy season expert for 6 and a half weeks. The business seems to be failing and lacking in modern tax applications, processes, and electronic documentation. I would not use this firm for any services and I would advise anyone not to work at the firm. read more

UPDATE: Based on Christina's response, I feel inclined to write an update on the situation. As for complaining from day 1, I never complained until an issue arose. After we caught several mistakes made by Laurie (another accountant at the firm), we let Christina know we had lost confidence in Laurie. I am not an accountant and it makes me uneasy having to fact check all my accountant's work. We thought we could trust Christina so asked if we could work with her directly instead of taking our business elsewhere. Christina agreed, but then essentially ceased communications, aside from one off emails promising to send a draft of the returns that night or the next day which never came to fruition. After a complete lack of communication for months on end, the day taxes were due we received an email from Christina with a draft of our return, which included numerous errors due to a lack of attention to detail. We were forced for file an extension and penalties were incurred based on this. Our taxes were finally filed in June 2023, and upon review by a new accountant numerous issues were identified that we are still to this day dealing with. Based on these numerous issues and the complete lack of communication from Christina and her team, I filed a report to the Virginia Board of Accountants who immediately opened an investigation into her activities. The Board ultimately closed the investigation after a two month long investigation, but contrary to Christina's response did not find that I made any false statements (confirmed via a phone call to the board today)--while the issues did not rise to the level of a professional ethical violation, they made our lives extremely difficult and frustrating for months on end. Monfalcone and Garris filed my taxes for 5 years from 2013-2018. Every year, I would give them all of my paperwork as soon as it was available, then I would hear nothing from them until the day before our taxes had to be filed with the IRS (April 14th). We always owe money and it was stressful to wait for any news and be given no lead time on how much money we owed the IRS. This past year's experience takes the cake. During tax year 2018 we lived in DC, and my husband worked in VA. We were told our taxes would not be completed by the deadline. Extension was filed and we given estimated taxes to the state of VA. When our taxes were completed in July, we found that we, in fact, owed tax money to DC (not VA). As a result, DC assessed us a late fee of $500. I asked Monfalcone and Garris to rectify this. They still made me pay them $380 for services rendered. Bottom line: they will take your money for preparing your taxes but the jury is out on whether your taxes will be done correctly, on time and without any late fees paid from your own pocket to the government. read more

I have only ever heard good things about this firm from both clients and staff. This company has been off for years about 20-40k for our taxes each year. We used them as they worked with our husbands company and each year and updated them probably 4-6 times a year with payroll stubs etc and we were always off that much. Please do yourself a favor a find another company. This was such a headache for us. read more

Ah yea, just don't. Not sure if they know what they're doing but they know how to charge for tax returns.
