Table set for Rosa Romance dinner
    Stephanie C.

The most incredible luxury resort I've ever stayed at. We stayed here for part of our honeymoon and elected to do the Rosa Romance package. I could write a novel for how incredible our stay was, but I'll try to condense as much as possible. Ranked by the top things I look for when booking: Comfort, Cleanliness, Cost, Amenities, Ambiance, Location, Service Comfort 10000/10. The room we stayed in was the Malva Suite overlooking the water with Amalfi in the distance. The bed was so comfy & was the best sleep we've had on vacation. The rooms are so charming & comfortable. They aren't the largest as it is a refurbished monastery, but we never felt cramped. (They have an option to hold your suitcases to clear out space in the room). The bathroom is big and has an incredible tub with a window overlooking the water & I spent a lot of time here taking in the fresh air during a hot bath. (They provide complimentary bath salts that are replenished daily - LOVE). The floors are heated & there's a huge rain shower with bench. I could live there. Cleanliness was JUST WOW. The housekeeping staff are ON TOP OF IT. Every day turn down service and not only that.. they replace everything (towels, bathrobes, toiletries, etc) & leave a little gift on the bed each night. What an amazing touch. We have some really sweet mementos that we'll treasure forever. The grounds are also PRISTINE. This has got to be the most beautiful property I've ever seen. There are flowers & foliage everywhere & everything sparkles. I didn't see any garbage or even towels scattered near the pool which was also PERFECTLY clear. Not a speck of dirt or debris anywhere. Cost - ok so for a luxury hotel that's not all-inclusive this pushes the envelope a bit HOWEVER with our package & going during the first week of opening we got an affordable deal especially for a honeymoon splurge. Normally, it is a pretty lofty daily rate that will add up. Breakfast is included which is great and they offer some delicious a la carte options, but the lunch & dinner prices are $$-$$$. 7/10 for cost but you're definitely getting high quality so IMO it's worth it. Amenities - I was blown away by their spa that's open for daily use to all guests. In edition to having one of the best massages of my life, we spent a good amount of time relaxing in the hydra pool and soaking in the foot baths. The heated benches are lovely. The pool is incredible. What a tranquil relaxing place with an epic view. The grounds are so peaceful and gorgeous, perfect for a stroll or relaxing with an aperitif. The gym is also great. I did yoga one morning and it was the most relaxed I've ever felt on vacation, looking out at the beautiful sunrise over the water. There are quite a few machines to choose from and the cooling scented towels are such a nice touch. Every detail is perfect. The bar was also great and we spent 3/4 nights having cocktails both in and outside. Ambiance - 1000/10 - I touched upon some of this but the grounds are breathtaking. I love the history & how they really stayed true to its heritage. The sunset terrace is gorgeous and such a cool spot for a pre dinner drink. It is a fairly quiet property so don't expect a party scene. With there being only 20 rooms it's pretty intimate so expect more of a relaxed vibe. Location - 6/10. I've been to the Amalfi Coast a few times and this was by far the most remote place we've stayed. That's not to say it's not near anything. You just have to rely on the complimentary shuttle that only goes to Amalfi so anywhere you'd like to go outside the property you'll need to use Amalfi as your launchpad. The traffic was wild and we missed our bus in Amalfi and had to take a really expensive taxi ($100 basically to go just 20 minutes away). That being said, you really don't need to leave the property if you're just looking to relax and be pampered. But the front desk will assist you with where you need to go and help facilitate a transfer should you need. That brings me to my final category - SERVICE - which is EXCEPTIONAL. The most kind and thoughtful service staff ever. Starting from our initial greeting from Pompeo we instantly felt at ease. He gave us a tour and upon entering our room there was a gift waiting for us (awesome). The restaurant and bar staff were wonderful and we have to give major props especially to Gennaro, Andrea, Ubaldo, Antonio, and Dan. We had such wonderful service from them and memories that will last a lifetime. Valentina and Rosalia were also wonderful. This stay was magnificent and I will absolutely come back. That being said, the only thing that didn't quite hit the mark was the dinner food which I'll put on another post....

Room service each morning. Your choice of everything.

Truly, this place IS heaven on earth and words really can't capture the feeling I had while there. I think it says it all that leaving this place was incredibly sad. My husband and I spent 3 nights here on our honeymoon in Italy, and it was undoubtedly the most luxurious, personalized, relaxing experience I've ever had. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the Monastero Santa Rose is unlike any other high-end hotel or resort. The caring attention to every last detail - from the individually named rooms by herbs and flowers the nuns used during its days as a monastery to the housemade tea we sipped when we were swept away to the balcony as our things were collected and transported - is remarkable. Just the scent of the air in the monastero is serene and soothing. We had an incredible three room suite with stunning ocean views from every window, which was hard to leave but necessary to enjoy the breathtaking infinity pool and terraced garden. In October it felt like we had almost the entire property to ourselves! The spa experience is seriously outstanding - we did a package with several treatments, and we started with the thermal bathing experience before we were guided to the two-story multi-level private spa suite complete with a massage area, a foot bath area, a humongous couples shower, and more. It's jaw-dropping, and the services were equally so. I told my husband as we were leaving that the only way I could go is if we promised ourselves we could return one day. Until then!

This is probably one of the most beautiful hotels you will ever encounter. The property is perched on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea with the town of Amalfi close by. There is an infinity pool that overlooks the ocean. The staff is friendly and warm. WiFi can be a problem in the rooms as this is a converted monastery and the walls are quite thick. Otherwise this will be an unforgettable experience. Excellent place for a honeymoon or to rekindle with your loved one.

For starters, the setting is unreal- a former 17th century abbey perched on a rocky cliff looking over the Amalfi coast.

Over centuries as their power waned, the sites became fishing hamlets and subsequently now tourism destinations due to the scenic beauty of their natural landscapes. These mostly quaint municipalities are: Amalfi, Atrani, Cetara, Conca de' Marini, Furore, Maiori, Minori, Positano, Praiano, Ravello, Scala, Tramonti, and Vietri sul Mare. Many are located along the water, others like Ravello, Tramonti, and Furore, are perched on the slopes of the Lattari Mountains, and to reach them you need to take public or private transport up the winding and narrow cliffside roads. Personally, my recommendation is to pass on driving yourself, unless you like tackling these types of harrowing driving terrains. Parking is not easy to find and many town centers are pedestrian only so you have to get out and walk anyways. For the coastside towns, travel by ferry is a more convenient and lovely way to see the waterfronts and mountains. The unique topography of the cliffside towns led to cultivation of lemons, citrus and vineyards, which have become synonymous with the region, and during the warmer months you will see citrus and especially lemons everywhere! EVERYWHERE. Walking down the street in Sorrento, after a whiff of motorcycle engine exhaust, the breeze carries a lemon scent when you walk close to one of what feels like hundreds of lemon orchards - in public parks, private gardens and sometimes just randomly along the street. Shops carry fresh lemons the size of grapefruits and I even saw one the size of my head (no exaggeration, see pic!) and every type of lemon souvenir you could imagine under the sun, edible and non-edible. Of course local cuisine incorporates lemons into their dishes too! Amazing food can be enjoyed at many restaurants here, though I've mentioned in separate reviews, these will be pricier than your average Italian city/town. You certainly pay for the views and there's a never-ending slew of spots to catch a breathtaking panorama. And speaking of a panoramic views, if you're into hiking, Il Sentiero degli Dei (the Path of the Gods) is a moderate trail that winds around the higher vantage points connecting Agerola to Positano, with...you guessed it...stellar viewpoints along the way. My husband chose the beef ravioli, and I selected the truffle gnocchi with walnuts. My husband's ravioli were housemade and extremely tasteful. However, I would order this gnocchi Every single time, it was that good! The shaved truffle on top was the perfect edition! This will hands-down be one of my favorite meals ever! The view is absolutely breathtaking, we had the restaurant to ourselves because we chose to eat early that night and I'm so glad we did. It was the perfect beginning to an amazing trip.

I do like the freshly squeezed orange juice though! Staff are friendly, and there's an outdoor gym. I didn't care for the equipment as you can't really adjust the machines and it seems like it's also the smoking area. It's a bit difficult to do cardio in hot weather and smell cigarette smoke, so that wasn't very enjoyable. Pool is small and I skipped it. There's plenty of seats in the shade and they also have a small hot tub by the garden area separate from the pool. I really liked the tiny libraries and think that should be an option at all hotels in the States! I traded the books I brought and took new ones. Room is okay. They don't service it very well, sometimes only just making the bed and not taking out the garbage. I also felt like the shower was a smidge small and the folded up shower seat was discolored, so a bit off-putting. Everything is also so high up! Like the towel hooks and the toiletries. It's more work for us shorter people to reach! They also offer complimentary service around specific Praiano bus stops, so a bit nice... however, it's quicker at times to just walk it yourself.
