Brooke is a magician! I've been going to her for over two years and I waffle between knowing exactly what I want done and completely relying on her to do what she thinks is best--either way she goes above and beyond my expectations. As a blond, you know your hair looks good when all your blond friends ask where you get it done (two have even switched to her). She's so knowledgeable and stays up to date with the latest trends. I highly recommend following the salon and her (icbeauuty) on instagram for inspo pics. On top of it all, she's so personable and fun to be around! The salon itself is adorable and in such a cute area. There's so much to do before and after your appointment if you want to make a day of it. Could not recommend Brooke and Monarch enough! read more

I have been wanting to get my hair done to make it look more blended and lived in, while still keeping the blonde and I was able to find Brooke! She did such an amazing job on the color and cut, while keeping my hair healthy. Actually, my hair looks healthier now! Brooke was also so nice and talked through the expectations really well. The salon itself was cute; it was a smaller space but I felt comfortable and the area is also really nice. I am so happy I was able to find such an amazing place and stylist, I will definitely be back. read more

Brooke is amazing, I love this little La Jolla gem! Tucked away in a cute walkway with other shops, the studio is in a great location. The appointment booking was smooth online and everything was timely. I got a color/cut, which turned out perfect. There is a deli across the way, so I snuck over for a bite to eat while my color was setting. I will be back for future appointments. read more

Shanna is incredible + a blonding genius! I came to her with some serious trust issues - having my hair so damaged from a previous salon (which had GREAT reviews), and a couple years of having to grow it back to health. My hair is naturally dark and it takes some serious skill to know how to lift it to blonde, while maintaining it's health. Shanna did just that. Years later she has transformed my short damaged hair, to long ashy locks. Did I mention she's also just an amazing person? Always so much fun sitting in her chair! My photos show my hair when I first came to her and 1 year later! read more

Came to Monarch Salon on recommendation from a friend and had the pleasure of Brooke doing my hair. This salon is tucked away in a cute little corridor in the heart of La Jolla. It's bright and clean and a perfect little space for some peaceful self care. Brooke was friendly, on time and asked great questions to make sure I got the style I really wanted. She is easy to talk with and you can tell she really loves giving clients a great finished product. I haven't felt this good about my hair since pre-Covid. Thanks Brooke! read more

I absolutely struck gold the moment I found Shanna to be my hair stylist in San Francisco. I started seeing Shanna before she opened Monarch Salon, and she did an excellent job taking me from Brunette to Blonde (in stages of course), giving me a cute short bob, to then taking me back to brunette and helping me grow it longer. She trusts what you're interested in and is willIng to take risks to get you what you want. Nothing is worse than a stylist who is too scared to get you blonde because she thinks you'll hate it. Answer: I'm paying you to do what I want so don't question me, right?! From every decision, Shanna is thorough and honest about what can and will happen if you do anything thing with your hair, like drastically going from light to brown or viceaversa. She also is personable and adds the fun gossip hour to getting your hair done which is always a plus! I've recommended several colleagues and friends to her and who have had troubling hair situations and Shanna helped them fall in love with their hair again! Monarch Salon SF has all of the above things throughout the entire space because it's entirely Shanna's salon. Prices are competitive, but you can't put a price at someone making you look and feeling amazing! read more

Shanna is so good at what she does and her new salon is the cutest. It's in a good location with plenty of parking. I've been going to Shanna for about a year now. I first came across her IG and was impressed with her client photos. Her work makes it easy to let her know what look I'm going for. Which isn't always easy to articulate to a stylist right?! But she makes it easy. She does an incredible job each time with both the color and haircuts. Did I mention the waves? Love the way she styles my hair! Shanna is by far the best hairdresser I have ever been to. I've been seeing her for a few years now and I truly can't see myself getting my hair done by anyone else. She has taken my very dark brown (Middle Eastern) hair to the perfect ashy shade of blonde time and time again - all without ruining my natural curls!!
