Truthfully, I was initially a little bit concerned about making de'Arti my new salon because it's a bit of a hike from my work (Downtown) and home (Dolores Park), and also because it seemed to be a place that catered mostly towards women. This all changed on my first visit, where I immediately noticed how everyone that works here was super friendly and it had more of a feeling of being in someone's home than in a place of business; it definitely has that high-end boutique feeling, but in a very comfortable and inviting way. Now that I'm a regular, I can say with confidence that Megan knows how to give a guy an amazing cut and it's totally worth making the trip, wherever you happen to live in the city. read more

I came to Terri after two stylists at other salons had messed up my hair color so bad that she had to deal with blue, green and orange tones. This was in what should have been dark blonde hair with lighter blonde highlights. Because of the issues with the color the other stylists kept trying to fix my hair and just kept damaging it more and more. So let's just say she had her work cut out for her. Terri got me back to a naturally-occurring human hair color and started working on the hair health. It was a process... we could not get funky with the highlights right away, it was just too damaged and there were too many colors to deal with. We agreed to take off some of the damaged ends and take it slow on the color transformations had originally wanted. Flash forward two years. My hair is longer and healthier than it has been in many years; the color is where I want it. I am so happy with the results and the health of my hair now. Paul is the best colorist there is. I have gone to him for 15 years and followed him from 4 salons. I have several friends who have done the same. If you want beautiful golden highlights for moist or dark brown hair he is the best. I've never had bad color. Occasionally I've tried another closer to home (I live in Orinda) but I always go back to Paul as he never disappoints. Plus he's super laid back and fun to talk to, or not, if you are busy working during your spot. The salon is very nice and modern. The chairs are the most uncomfortable I've ever sat in. My advice to the owner is to buy more comfortable chairs - though I know she's going for a design aesthetic. Nevertheless I recommend it for its boutique, high end feel. read more

My review is going to be a little different because this was an event of sorts so I didn't come in as an individual looking to get my hair done. My girlfriend won a Bubbles and Blowout Party for 6 ladies through a charity event so we grabbed dinner nearby at Brixton (delicious) and popped in for our 7PM appointment time. When we arrived at this cute little salon, the three stylists greeted us with smiles, a bottle of bubbly, and a plate of chocolate covered strawberries and mini cupcakes. 3 girls went first while the others chatted and searched for hairstyle pics. I was one of the second set. It was so fun to see everyone slowly transformed and pampered! All three stylists were professional, delightful, and obviously talented at what they do. I had Teri working on my hair. She was a pleasure to chat with and a pro with the style I requested. She also does a great scalp massage while you get a shampoo. That's a bonus point in my book. She also gave me tips on how to give my hair some volume since it's long and thick which causes it to be heavy. She made my hair look Victoria's Secret model fabulous! Everyone was thrilled with the finished product. And we all agreed this was a way better thing to do for a ladies' night out instead of just a mani/pedi! Now as if we didn't already have a fabulous time, the ladies presented us each with a bottle of shampoo to take home! Ladies, we all know that ain't cheap. And to top it all off, they flat out REFUSED to let us tip them. Whaaaa?? They'd stayed long after their full day of work to work on us (we were there for about 2.5 hours), put together a great little spread for us, and would not let us leave them a cent. They were so grateful that we'd come in to enjoy ourselves and the money from the charity event went toward Glide Memorial Church. That was enough for them. They were just lovely from start to finish. If I lived in SF I would come back as a regular client. So cheers ladies! I experienced my first service at De Arti salon today, it was great feeling like I was in good hands. I had been recommended by one another client of there's and am so happy I went in. My hair was not in a good place color wise I had a very faded brassy ombré. Inna was great with working out what to do color wise. She was honest and confident in what to do. My family and I have been seeing Paul for YEARS Now. He is a wonderful hair stylist and takes the time to perfectly cut/color/style your hair. After moving to Los Angeles a few years ago, I didn't find a single hair stylist who came close to doing what Paul does. Luckily, my job allows me to fly home every few months, enabling me to get my hair done! Recently, I decided to go with the "ombré" hair style, and I must say, Paul did an EXCELLENT job! I was quite nervous at first and didn't know if I were up for the change. However, it wasn't too bold and had a natural look to it! It is a perfect look for summer as well. This newly opened salon is beautiful. I have gotten the chance to meet all of the hair stylists, and each one of them are very welcoming! I have been seeing Ina for over a year now for both cuts and color. I have medium brown hair she highlights for me. Her color is amazing- she goes for a more natural approach rather than being heavy handed with application. Her cuts are phenomenal as well and I always leave happy. My hair texture is somewhat fine but I have a lot of strands and a curly/wavy texture that I like to wear blown out with waves put in with a flat iron. I even called once after a few weeks of a recent hair cut to come back in so she could add in a few layers because the cut was a little too blunt (that's what I requested originally). She had no problem having me pop in for 15 min free of charge. In terms of SF pricing for salons, her prices are reasonable. The salon and her staff are professional and warm. I always feel comfortable. I'm never going anywhere else, unless I somehow happen to move. Keep up the awesome work!! read more

A friend referred me to Inna because I haven't found a good colorist for a reasonable price in San Francisco since I moved here four years ago. Inna listened to what I wanted and didn't take three hours like some of the other colorists I have used. The salon is very well-decorated, and Inna does a great blond/caramel highlight. She also told me that she does hair extensions. Great value and perfect price point for the service. You can tell Inna is experienced, and is trustworthy with highlights. I stalked Yelp when I moved to SF to find a stylist who is skilled with thick hair. I can't believe I found Inna on the first try. (yay for Yelp and yelpers!). Inna is magic. She knows how to work with my thick & coarse hair: cutting, coloring and styling. And unlike most other stylists, she works with you when you come in with a request. If you want something that won't work with your hairstyle, she suggests other options instead of letting you walk out with a terrible idea. That honesty is awesome. I went to Teri, now over 6 years ago (which sounds so far away) for help with a color gone so so so wrong to the point that it needed praying and hoping hair does not fall off. Being the magician she is, she helped me keep my hair, and has been responsible for every color and cut ever since. We're in a sweet and comfortable routine where I give her a general idea of what I want, and she works her magic. We switch things up every once in a while, and each time it is AMAZING. I love my hair, and I don't seem to be alone in my opinion. This review is so overdue, but this lady is worth driving in, and flying in for. Inna is my girl! I have been going to her for the past 8 years and could not say enough great things about her. I started seeing her when I was living in Santa Barbara for school. Once I found her, no one else could live up. When I moved to the city I was lost on my search to replace her and ecstatic when I heard she had moved up here. Each time I see her she gives my hair nothing but the very best. She can interpret my vague directions and offers suggestions when I can't decide what I want to do. Over the years I have received many compliments on the color and that is all Inna's doing. She knows how to add high/lowlights while keeping my hair looking natural and healthy. She is also great at teaching! I had no idea how to curl my own hair and always envied other people who had the technique down. After confessing this to Inna one evening during a hair cut, she explained what type of curling iron to get and that it was all about the heat. I watched her curl my hair and was amazed at how long the curl stayed in. I immediately went out an got the curling iron she suggested and can now curl my hair with ease. Inna deserves even more stars and I almost don't want to give her such a glowing review because I want to keep her all for myself! Paul Laus is fantastic! I have super fine, soft, slippery hair. It won't hold a curl or stay in a braid. Well, it might hold a curl if I were willing to put products in my hair... but I refuse to do so. I can't stand the stuff. It feels gross and then it gets all over my pillow = nasty! On top o that, I am missing the hair styling gene. I attempted to use a curling iron at few times but I always burned something, ears, scalp, arm, hair, ect. For these reasons, I thought I was doomed to a life of straight, limp, boring hair. Paul proved me wrong! He listened to what I wanted and am willing to do and asked "Can you use a blow dryer and big round brush?" Yes. He totally NAILED it! My cut is sexy and sophisticated, it has movement and body. I've been going to Inna for highlights/haircuts for just over a year now and I cannot say enough wonderful things about her!! I also chose her for myself and bridesmaids hair for my wedding in July. I really wanted to love this salon. I booked days before my visit to SF for a wash and blowout only. I chose this salon because of the solid reviews and proximity to my lodging. I arrived early out of consideration and luck. My stylist took me about 5 minutes before my scheduled time while leaving her color client in her chair. I received a less than solid hair wash - the nape of my neck and temples area were wet but not washed. After I left the shampoo bowl, my hair did not feel properly washed. I had to sit in another chair and wait (hair dripping) for the stylist to tend to her color client. After about 15 minutes, the lackluster blow dry was declared done. I looked in the mirror and saw my hair not finished. The back of my head was still damp. She walked away to tend to her other client without checking in and asking if I liked what I saw (I didn't). I sat for another few minutes waiting when I asked her to provide some additional work which she did. By this time, the service was beyond salvation as I left receiving what I consider a poor and disappointing blow dry service. I am a regular visitor to the city and will cross this salon off my list for future consideration. read more

I went to Emily for a color several months ago and it wasn't quite what I was hoping for but when I returned to get my roots done, she assured me she knew what she would do differently this time and so I trusted her with a cut and a color. The cut was great. She recommended a glaze, so I agreed. The glaze was either left on too long or incorrectly applied as it burned my scalp and marked it for 48 hours. She closed the salon that evening and was rushing to get out of there so I didn't make a scene or act overly critical but its was obvious I was not impressed with the service and I rushed home to wash my scalp in cold water. Again, great cut however. And its hard to find a great cut in SF. So several months later I made a booking with her for a cut only. When I turned up for the appointment there was a "problem with the booking" and she wasn't available. So I made a new booking the next day. When I arrived she took me outside and said "there must be an issue as I've tried to contact you and I have decided I won't be cutting your hair." I received no message of any sort and it was a complete waste of my time. I have empathy and compassion for whatever is going on with people, but this is unbelievably unprofessional and rude. I'd love to know what the owner of this salon thinks of this, especially when other staff members I've encountered have always been so professional and friendly at this salon. read more

Inna is just the best and this salon is fantastic. Inna took me from dark brown to blonde and back, and I've loved every cut and color she's done. She's extremely professional and listens to what you're envisioning, then does a great job of figuring out how to do that responsibly and so it'll look natural and beautiful for your skin tone. A bit late, but had to share! Megan Murphy is fantastic! If I lived in SF she would be my go to girl! I'm not good at explaining what I want done in terms of color. I basically told her I wanted some highlights and to 'go for it'. WOW. It turned out great. The color matched my skin tone very well. It wasn't ashy or coppery at all! It was perfect shade of blonde.
