Went for a trim for my pixie cut and she did the sides and back, but not the top which is imbalanced. I had product in my hair, I told her this when I arrived and she used a water spray bottle during the trim. She seemed offended when I asked for a rinse, as my hair really needed it, and she acquiesced. She then towel dried my hair, seated her next customer and did not comb or style my hair (I didn't ask for products) and charged me $75.00 b/c she used scissors. I've never had to request a rinse, and I've certainly never left anywhere without styling or combing. Now I know-can't recommend. read more

Over promised and under delivered. Made an appointment that they could not fulfill. Waited on the couches. 10 minutes past my appointment I asked if they could squeeze me in and the woman said "we're ready now". Then she asked the other barber when she would be ready and said she'd need at least another 10 minutes. Perfect punctuality is not required but promising an appointment and then making guests wait at least 25 minutes to be served despite having an appointment is disappointing. read more

Ok I don't feel good giving one star or even two because Linda is really nice and yes, everything said is true about her. Clean shop and great location. There's even a candy dish and magazines. I had a really great experience my first time in August. I went in for a trim to test things out with a new place. It was great. I felt good. I was overdue for a haircut and went in last week. I made an appointment because she is pretty busy. With that said, I told her exactly what I hoped for. I wanted to keep the length. I just wanted a little off the ends and some layers to even it out around the sides. Leave my bangs. She heard me. I felt she listened. Age kept cutting. Shorter, and shorter and crimping it up to curl. I specifically said no curl. She showed me a product I could buy on Amazon to help with curl. But I don't want curl. I repeated no curl. So I paid went home and now am so sad that my hair I've been growing out is should length and too short. I really was feeling good I had a local place to go and now I'm just uncertain. read more

I've been a long time fan of another haircut joint in Cow Hollow for years (10 years!) and that's mainly due to Linda Gao who's been my hair stylist for that duration. So it was a huge surprise to hear that Linda has officially opened her own place on Union street called Union Cuts! I was incredibly excited to be one of the first visitors here :) Walking up to the place, I immediately notice its convenience in location. On the corner of Union and Laguna, this place sit as neighbors to Cow Hollow staples as Starbucks and The Bus Stop bar. I also enjoy this location more than my former hair place as parking is much more convenient. I've never had trouble finding a metered parking spot so that's a plus! Walking into the place, it's spacious and very clean! There's a comfortable seating area with couch and place to hang your coats up. Each hair station is big, clean and feels inviting. While this place is still ramping up, seems to have space for a large team of hair stylists! I think Linda did an exceptional job with decor and furniture, making this salon a competing business to other salons in the immediate area. When it comes to quality of hair, I think that's always relative to the person getting a cut, as we all have our own preferences. For me, there's a reason why I make the trek from Potrero Hill to Cow Hollow for a haircut. Linda is hands down the best stylist I've had. She's truly a master of her craft. And while I haven't met the rest of her stylists yet, I'm confident that Linda will attract other masters of the craft. Lastly, I also know that Linda has a HUGE following of folks over the years. Sitting in the waiting room, it's apparent that many of her long time followers have also switched hair locations as a result of Linda's work. For a cut, it'll run you $40 + tip. I think that's absolutely reasonable given the quality of work! If you're in the area and need a cut, I invite you come try Union Cuts, and see for yourself. I was looking for a hair stylist who knows how to work with my hair texture - fine with heavy volume. My hairdresser located in the Union Square area was great but his hours were cut back and it was difficult to schedule appointments. I read the great reviews on Yelp about Union Cuts and decided to try it out. Linda did a fantastic job cutting my hair. She first consulted with me about the hair style and length I was looking for. I showed her examples of the hairstyle I found online. I was aware the results would not be identical to the photo since everyone's hair texture and volume is different. After my cut, I was pleasantly surprised that Linda was able to cut my hair very similar to the one in the photo. Four months later I decided to try Linda again. I showed her photos of the hairstyle and discussed the hair length. She was careful to not cut my hair shorter than I wanted, and even confirmed with me before proceeding. My haircut turned out great. It really helps to show the hairstylist photos of the hairstyle of what you are looking for. Also want to mention that Linda is friendly and easy to work with.
