Spanish Food, As Catered to the Masses: I always say that you can tell how good a cook is by the taste of their fundamentals. Soups, burgers, rice and beans, griot. These are basics to a cook's basics. These, from Monarca's were awful. No proper coating on the rice, no seasoning for the black beans or retried. They rolled my wife's enchiladas with just the meats, expecting her to add the rest after pulling them apart. Which isn't much of a complaint until you see that the outer coating of the enchiladas was minuscule at best. At $15 we did expect more but this is Cape Coral after all. My Mega Burrito was sizable for sure, but portly wrapped. Cutting into it, after the hour drive home, prompted juices to leak out, meaning that the improperly wrapped burrito was in fact leaking before I even touched it. Also, I cut through the styrofoam container so that's on me. For us, $45 was way too much for this to go straight into the trash. What was delightful was the guac and chips. The chips you could tell were home made and the guacamole, though season-less, had tomatoes in it. All in all, the diarrhea tonight won't be too bad because threw the rest away. The vitriol for this meal, acted like a strike two for coming into Cape Coral. It's nice to see people gathering, trying to live normal but restaurants really need to step it up. The hastily thrown together ingredients make me wonder whey they are still in business. read more

Food is good - I had three steak tacos - my recommendation is to get fajitas if want steak - the tacos were good just not enough steak ( couldn't really taste steak) son had shrimp made with garlic - he's 9 and inhaled the plate - he said it was great - ( shrimp has tails - had to Remove them ) daughter had grilled chicken tacos - she forgot to ask for flour tortillas and all tacos come With corn tortillas. Shrimp tacos was also devoured at our table and were good . At the start we had the guacamole person and cart make fresh guacamole - it to was good! The margarita pitcher "Macho" has a lot of tequila- highly recommended. The cons are we had a table of 6 so wait time was long as they didn't take reservations also we were seated next to a table of 7 who sat after us and their food came 15 minutes before ours did- I guess their server was faster ! Had lunch at the cape coral location was excellent! Hard to find grilled napoles and this place has it Skinny margaritas were spot on. Lander provided attentive and timely service. Love the ambience with seating next to the canal. I added the location to my favorites for return dining in the future. read more

I went back and had a strawberry margarita, which was one of the best of my life. I ordered the steak chimichanga with cheese sauce. It was so delicious and tender and filling. This is my 3rd or 4th visit. Each time has been exceptional. read more

One of our favorite restaurants, not just a quasi-mexican restaurant but an authentic place with happy employees and the best chips and salsa while you wait for your meal. Karina was our waitress and excellent, friendly as usual. We came by boat, and there are plenty of spots to dock. You can eat inside or on the deck. Do that on a warm night! I'm giving three stars because the service made up for the food. Now to be fair, the gal that picked this place for the group loved the food, but I felt everything was over cooked, like made ahead, let sit, then heated up again, dry and tough. Which was weird cause we came early in the day. I felt the place was dark and kinda funky smelling but here again, others in the group said they felt like they were in Mexico and liked the decor. I want to like the place because of the location but there are too many good places that serve this type of food to go back again for me. Went there last year 2024, ordered a taco dinner, the beans tasted off. My partner left his after he tasted them. Even though I didn't eat that much of them I was horribly physically sick for three days! Could have been the tacos or it could have been the beans. This is the first 4 Star rating I have given. With me you either get a 1 or a 5. The food is really good here and the margaritas are very tasty and well priced. The reason I did not give a 5 was because we were initially ignored for awhile when we arrived, while many staff members walked right by us. Then when we finally got seated, we got ignored again. They sat 2 more tables near us after we sat down, and another large table was leaving. They got drink orders long before us from both tables, cleared the large table and nobody ever even acknowledged us. We were about to just leave when my wife asked the bus girl to get our server because nobody was helping us. Once our server, Darita, arrived, she apologized and said she was never told we were there. After that, the service and rest of the evening was really nice. The atmosphere is authentic. So we made reservations in open table for Mother's Day for my wife and when we arrived and told them that we had reservations they laughed in my face then proceeded to tell me after they were done laughing that they don't take reservations. Oh my God! I realize it's a Mexican Restaurant , but woa ! My wife wanted Mexican food and I made the mistake of taking her out for the $50.00 special. She had 2 soft tacos and a small sample of rice and beans. The rice and beans were the size of a sample you get from the counter were they give out the small samples to taste. I ordered a hawaiian burger off the lunch menu , with a buger bun that broke apart from the soggyness from the greasy burger. Asked for med rare and it was well done.It came with fries that were hardly even cooked and cold. Have to admit for a balanced review that we did like the chips and salsa. For everyone who's lived in this area for a while this is the old Jimbo's. I still go in there with memories of that place. But...it's been a Mexican place for a while and we've eaten there several times. It's always consistently good. The menu is stacked with choices and we've tried several different meals. I will say the rice and refried beans are not my favorite at this place but the main course always makes up for it. The chips they serve have always been thin, salty and crispy just the way they should be. Bonus if they come warmed. We don't drink, but the bar appears busy and the drinks always look good coming out to tables. They have outside and inside seating and they seem to be able to accommodate large families. Service has always been decent. No complaints other than the prices are kind of high. read more

We had the best Mexican dining experience at Monarcas!! We ordered the Quesadillas al Pastor, Vegetarian Enchiladas, and a Fish Sandwich with Calamari as a side! My husband said the calamari was the best he had ever had, and our meals were all amazing. Our server was attentive and efficient, and the atmosphere felt like we were in Mexico with live music. This place has has been on the decline, and is now officially awful!! Stale chips (twice) sauces from out of what seems to be jars, almost no meat in either of our dishes. The costs have gone sky high and the food has gotten worse. Taco Bell would be a better choice for you. read more

I The first time I ate at Monarcas I really like it. That was spring of 2021. I also really liked the location and how it sits on a canal. Each time i've eaten there since it just felt less and less authentic. The last time I ate there was about 6 months ago and we all found it nearly inedible. Today I decided to order nachos for delivery as it came up in my offer listing on Uber Eats. Give them another chance as maybe they were between managers 6 months back. I am now convinced nobody working there has ever had Mexican food before. Literally the oddest nachos i've ever seen and i've been eating at Mexican restaurants from Chicago to LA to NYC over 30 years. They really need to hire someone that knows Mexican food or at least Tex Mex. read more
