I went with my mom for lunch. We were seated immediately in a booth not to far from the bar. I ordered the two chicken tacos lunch special (about 12 dollars), while my mom had the vegetable quesadilla (about 15 dollars). Chips and salsa were given to us since my mom ordered from the regular menu (not included in the lunch special). The salsa was a bit to watery for me, but the chips were fine. The tacos were just ok with shredded chicken, lettuce, cheese, and maybe tomatos. It was filling, but it was quite bland due to the lack of seasoning on the chicken. Rice and beans were included. I only tried the rice, and it was a little better than the tacos. My mom tried the beans and seemed to enjoy it. She also liked the quesadilla as well. The service was alright and the dining area spacious. There were nice Mexican decorations throughout the restaurant. The bathrooms looked ok as well. I should have lowered my expectations for this restaurant being in the mall. The prices were a bit too high for the quality of the food. I guess you are paying for the atmosphere and the convenience of eating inside the mall area. At least it was a full service restaurant, and not in the food court. Our food was quite tasty. We started with the queso chorizo which we really enjoyed. We ordered the fajita trio as our entree to share which was plentiful for 2 people. All the food we had was well made and pretty close to authentic. The salsa provided for the chips was on the watery side and a far cry from authentic. The Ambiance was very nice. Their decor was very appropriate to the Mexican culture. A very big restaurant with plenty of space for all size parties. Service from our waiter was great. Very attentive and our order was 100% what we asked for. Only situation we ran into was Yelp offered a check in coupon to use while on our visit. Said we could claim a free drink while eating from a choice of house margarita, glass of wine or a domestic beer. The waiter asked the manager how to process the coupon and the manager came to say it was no longer a valid coupon. There was no expiration in the terms of this coupon maybe worth $7 of a drink. Manager came to our table with some huge excuse how a previous manager created the promo and they have not taken it off of yelp. I went to visit and checkout Monarca's Authentic Mexican Cuisine Bar & Grill. I walked in and was greeted by a very friendly and courteous young man who asked me if I wanted a table and instead, I went and sat at the bar. The bartender, Paola, was a delight. She was so kind and helpful. I ordered a Raspberry Margarita on the rocks and it was delicious. I really liked all of the very unique and royal decor. The music they had playing was very cool too and added to the ambiance of the restaurant. The menu offered a lot of typical Mexican dishes and it was somewhat expensive for what was offered, compared to different Mexican restaurants in town, and that's the only reason I gave it a 4 star and not a 5 star. I saw some of the food coming out of the kitchen and it was all smoking hot and looked and smelled delicious. Overall, pretty good experience. read more

Wife and I stopped in at lunch on a weekend and were seated right away. The place is well decorated, clean, and with very comfortable seating. We ordered the white queso appetizer, the pork mole and the shrimp enchiladas for entres. All of it was amazing, with large portions. The enchiladas were absolutely stuffed with shrimp. The quesadilla was totally greasy and was unable to pick up...the soft tacos were average with no flavor. Spent 60 bucks and truly feel like I've been robbed. This is my second time here. My first was for my birthday for lunch and it was wonderful! Now it's Saturday night, plenty of open tables. Nice large Mexican Restaurant - don't let the location fool you. It is an outside entrance next to JCPenney's at the mall. Nice atmosphere inside. Chips & Salsa were really good! Tacos, ,beef soup and chicken fajitas were great! Tortillas were perfect. Red wine was decent. Margarita was excellent! We thought the Chile Relleno portion was too small. I was very disappointed in this restaurant. Service was very slow. The pomegranate martini did not taste like a pomegranate martini at all, and I really don't see the point of adding Tajin and cherries. It was a weird flavor combination. And I ordered an appetizer that was supposed to be shrimp and crab and it came out with no crab whatsoever. When I spoke with the manager they made me another one and this time the crab was actually little bits of that imitation surimi, no real crab meat at all, and definitely not worth $29.99. I ordered the Charly burrito. It's $16.99 (see current menu pic) but they charged me $1 dollar extra with no explanation. They added another $1.49 for chicken on the burrito with no explanation, all they did was ask me if I wanted ground beef or chicken. I chose chicken. The ground beef burrito concept in a Mexican restaurant is gross. Even more gross they don't tell their customers the meat inside your burrito is going to cost you $1.49 more. In addition I was also was charged $5.00 more for an item I didn't even order, waiter would not fix. I overpaid almost $8 more than what my bill should've been when adding the tax. Upon trying to fix the bill, waiter apologized but nobody would correct/adjust. I will never come to any of these restaurants again. I was very excited to check in because if you check in on the Yelp app it gives you a coupon for a free house margarita. Went on a Saturday for lunch and found the restaurant basically empty but ready for business. The place is large and it fits quite a lot of people so wait shouldn't be really a problem. As an authentic Mexican restaurant they serve salsa and chips free of charge. To my luck, the salsa is not spicy at all and neither is the quest dip which you can order in the side ( we did) We offered a margarita which was delicious and the bite chimichangas which were moist in the inside and golden on the outside just as a chimichanga should be. Food was very good. Service was incredibly slow, the huge restaurant was nearly empty, and still we waited 20 minutes before we were even acknowledged. I've been there twice, and the second time they brought me the wrong meal. They offered to replace it, but as it took 45 min to get it, I was fine eating what they served vs waiting another hour while my companion ate, alone. On both occasions, we had to wait a very long time. While my food was delicious, I don't know if going back is worth it. You be the judge. I hate to see how long the wait is if the place is actually full. Recommend if you're patient. read more

Very unfortunate that this place has a nice theme and view and it is wasted on terrible service and terrible food. The 1 star is just for those reasons mostly. I visited Florida for vacation and me and my friends decided to go to Monarcas for dinner. We were sat pretty quickly. We had the option of outdoor or indoor. I'm not sure why they would give us an outdoor option if they had such large parties out there. As for our waiter, no one had come to our table for 15 minutes. I had to get up and go to the hostess to tell her no one had come over to which she replied very lost with "okay." 5 minutes later our waitress, who passed us multiple times to go to the large party, came and asked for our orders. We got our drinks and appetizer pretty quickly. The salsa and chips were good but my empanadas had a weird taste and one was EMPTY. Literally no meat. I was completely annoyed and the waitress had not checked in on us and another came by because he must have seen how mad I was. He let the manager know about the issue. Our waitress came to tell me the manager would take half off which is ridiculous because I only got to eat 1 empanada and it wasn't even good. Our entrees came out. I actually liked my Pollo Campero. Another problem was that they forgot my side of beans and I had to share with my friend's child. Our waiter barely checked in on us and we were not even able to get any refills for our food that took a while. My friend ate with no drink. A lady asked us how everything was and my friend asked to speak to a manager. She was actually the manager and we said all of what was wrong, especially paying half for an empty empanada. She ended up taking off the empanadas, the beans, and the drinks. I'm glad she was at least accommodating on that end. I would not recommend this place to anyone. After hours of Christmas shopping we were ready to sit down and have a nice quick lunch. We were greeted quickly by the hostess who sat us comfortably at a two-person booth. Our waitress came over and she was super friendly. We ordered tableside guacamole decided to share the fajita trio. While we were waiting, they brought tortilla chips and salsa. We really loved the salsa! Then a young lady came to our table to make the guacamole. The ingredients were fresh but it lacked flavor. We ended up adding a ton more lime juice and salt but after that it was perfect! We asked for the vegetables on the fajitas to be well done, which they were, but the steak chicken and shrimp were also well done... and tough...and dry....amd again underseasoned. Asked for both red and green sauce on my burrito and there was an up charge so I decided to forego it. Given this blasé build up, the steak burrito was a a welcome surprise. Steak was tender, portions were generous and red sauce was delicious. My friends' tacos were quite meager. My other friend's enchiladas were uninspiring and stingy. Chicken was dry. Overall, a disappointing meal. Nothing popped. Monarcas is on my radar screen in one of to-try Mexican Restaurant for some time. It is conveniently located in Edison Mall where the former Elephant Bar used to be. Ample mall parking spaces are available here. The exterior is nicely decorated and in front of main entrance, a wagon of six barrels of Tequila added to the Mexican ambiance. As you enter, you notice two tall chairs fitting for the King and Queen. Nice! As you greet by the hostess, on the left booth section, a long table with hats and other colorful objects looks like were prepping for a fiesta or family celebration. Impressive! Will take a picture with that sombrero on next time! Gone are the jungle themed décor from the old day of Elephant Bar! The overall effect is pleasant, comfortable and no loud music! Flying solo for lunch today. To escape from the rain, I have a house Margarita with salsa and chips. The salsa is lightly seasoned and the chips are warm and crispy. The Margarita is not water-downed! Instead of their lunch special for $8.95 with selection like Burrito, Tacos, Tamales, Enchiladas, Chile Relleno, etc. I wanted to try their specialty Molcajete Monarcas. I realized that most molcajete are fairly large portion and may be inappropriate for lunch. My friendly waitress agreed that their Molcajete is enough for two. With her recommendation, I opted for a ceviche. Not fish or shrimp ceviche but Juarez ceviche - a combination of fish, shrimp and octopus with lime sauce and Pico de Gallo. I discovered that the ceviche was prepared with two different type of shrimps, jumbo and baby shrimp. I personally like the jumbo shrimp better because it is crunchier. The lime juice made the baby shrimp on the mushier side. Nevertheless, the ceviche is fine! I finished my delectable lunch with a flan - a sweet touch! The service is familial, cheery and efficient plus the food is good. Definitely will return for their Molcajete and other specialties for dinner! read more
