If you're looking for authentic Mexican food with waterfront dining, Monarca's is a must. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, the decor was absolutely on fleek, and the service was fast. We ordered a margarita and a steak chimichanga and both were fantastic. I love the way the alcohol for the margarita was clipped to the side of the drink and you poured it on yourself ... fun little twist. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Such a great spot to unwind, relax, enjoy the view and have an amazing meal. We'll definitely be back. After dinner, take a sunset Tiki boat ride with Cruisin' Tikis (need reservations for this). I had just gotten off of work and wanted to eat a late lunch. My fiance said his coworker suggested this restaurant and so we gave it a try. I wanted sushi and I wish we went with my suggestion. We were immediately greeted and seated outside which was probably the best part of our experience. The salsa was okay, very heavy on taco seasoning. Chips were great! Everything on the menu is very expensive so expect to pay more than $20 per person. I wanted a beef chille relleno but they were out of it. My fiance ordered a chicken chimichanga and it was underwhelming. There was nothing authentic about it. It had Walmart cheese in it, we both tried and said hm that's interesting. Everything was on the side nothing else was in it expect chicken and cheese. The service also wasn't good. It took her about 10 minutes to bring us water and even longer for our check that I was falling asleep waiting on them. I do not recommend this place. read more

Cape Coral has a handful of excellent restaurants and I think Monarcha's is my number one. I love the interior and the ambiance to start off with. It was dark, but we opted to eat outside on the patio which is on the canal. The chips and fresh salsa were a great start also. I had the steak tacos with a side of rice and beans. Our table overlooked a canal & a bridge on Del Prado. Our server was kind, took our drink orders. I ordered the drink special; blackberry lemonade cocktail. I noticed a server making table side guacamole and I had to snap a photo. They delivered chips, salsa & our drinks. The lemonade cocktail was yummy as was these chips and salsa. The wife and I dined at Monarca's for an early evening dinner. We sat on the covered patio, next to the canal, which was nice. The servers were all friendly and nice. But the food is really awful. The steak fajitas were bland, and the peppers and onions were soggy, and covered in a ridiculous amount of oil. The crispy beef tacos, were bland and all fell apart when they were picked up. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Cape easily. Excellent traditional Mexican food at a fair price and great service always. I have been numerous times and never have I had a bad dish. We came with a party of five, and unfortunately, it wasn't the best experience. Right off the bat, the manager seemed to hover over our table far too much, which made us feel pretty uncomfortable. It's one thing to check in with customers, but this was over the top. I started with a shrimp cocktail, ($30)but it was overwhelmingly sweet to the point of being unpleasant. The shrimp itself was fine, but the sauce ruined it. On a positive note, the quesadilla was huge and the person who ordered it ended up sharing with me. However, the rest of the food was disappointing. Everything else was pretty mediocre for the price, and I felt like we were paying more for the experience (and that wasn't that good) than the actual quality of the dishes. The food here is very good. We came here with a party of 5 and everyone's food was great. Service was excellent, no complaints about that at all. I would have given it 5 stars but here's the thing. My issue is with the number of tortillas that are supplied with your fajitas. The amount of ingredients for the fajitas was more than adequate but they only give you 3 tortillas. You can't possibly put all the food they give you in just 3 tortillas. I'm sure some people waste them but most don't. So, you ask for more, maybe 1 or 2 and they bring you another package of 3. And, to top it off you are charged $3 for another pack of 3. So now your Fajitas that you paid $24 dollars for turns in to $27 dollars. I feel this is a planned deception to get 3 more dollars out of you. If they would at least give you 4 tortillas that would probably be OK. My suggestions is to stay away from the fahitas and order something else. read more

Spanish Food, As Catered to the Masses: I always say that you can tell how good a cook is by the taste of their fundamentals. Soups, burgers, rice and beans, griot. These are basics to a cook's basics. These, from Monarca's were awful. No proper coating on the rice, no seasoning for the black beans or retried. They rolled my wife's enchiladas with just the meats, expecting her to add the rest after pulling them apart. Which isn't much of a complaint until you see that the outer coating of the enchiladas was minuscule at best. At $15 we did expect more but this is Cape Coral after all. My Mega Burrito was sizable for sure, but portly wrapped. Cutting into it, after the hour drive home, prompted juices to leak out, meaning that the improperly wrapped burrito was in fact leaking before I even touched it. Also, I cut through the styrofoam container so that's on me. For us, $45 was way too much for this to go straight into the trash. What was delightful was the guac and chips. The chips you could tell were home made and the guacamole, though season-less, had tomatoes in it. All in all, the diarrhea tonight won't be too bad because threw the rest away. The vitriol for this meal, acted like a strike two for coming into Cape Coral. It's nice to see people gathering, trying to live normal but restaurants really need to step it up. Food is good - I had three steak tacos - my recommendation is to get fajitas if want steak - the tacos were good just not enough steak ( couldn't really taste steak) son had shrimp made with garlic - he's 9 and inhaled the plate - he said it was great - ( shrimp has tails - had to Remove them ) daughter had grilled chicken tacos - she forgot to ask for flour tortillas and all tacos come With corn tortillas. Shrimp tacos was also devoured at our table and were good . At the start we had the guacamole person and cart make fresh guacamole - it to was good! The margarita pitcher "Macho" has a lot of tequila- highly recommended. The cons are we had a table of 6 so wait time was long as they didn't take reservations also we were seated next to a table of 7 who sat after us and their food came 15 minutes before ours did- I guess their server was faster !
