Went for my first time around 2pm on Wednesday. They had a Burrito Supreme that looked good on their picture board. It only took 3 minutes to get the plate out... not a good sign. This means it was either frozen and microwaved, or had it prepared already??? Although there was no one in the restaurant besides the rowdy kids and their family together. They were nice, but the burrito wasn't freshly made. It was just put on a white plate, with nothing else, not even garnish or sauce. They had bottles of different sauces, which were fine. Just seems like not a very busy place, with average food. I've only gotten the quesabirria, but the three times I've gotten it, it's been great. The staff has always been nice and was clean the one time I dined in. I always forget about this place because I don't usually head down Ocean Beach HWY that far, but I need to. The tacos and consume really hit the spot! read more

We LOVE Monarca! The food is AMAZING! The only trouble my family and I have is deciding which of our many favorites to get. They do not white girl spice it up so if you want truly spicy with EXCELLENT flavor this is your best choice. I don't know how they make it that spicy and still manage to get every bit of that rich bone broth flavorin their meat. The portions are big but not huge. You'll have enough to have a little left over for the next day but probably not because you won't want to stop eating! The service is friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is small but warm and cozy. You'll find that they don't rush you through your meal and you'll want to sit and linger for a while. They are VERY clean. If you want truly authentic Mexican food that will have you mmmmming after every bite and a place that is warm and welcoming to sit and relax, my family and I HIGHLY recommend Monarca. This is our favorite Mexican food spot in Longview /Kelso I think this place is crazy underrated and deserves WAY MORE credit than it gets. Their birria is THE BEST it has a nice lil touch of spice to it, their quesa tacos, birria pizza, flamin burrito and asada fries are our favorite things from there! Based on the star rating, decided to come here. Didn't really look at the reviews, The menu is a poster of photos with pricing hard to read. Found that they have Al Pastor, but not made with pena. Though she offered me a taste, decided to go with an Asada plate.... then I looked at the other reviews for this dish and agree with the other reviewers: flavorful but dry. Price was right. The first impression that you get of Monarca is of a clean, brightly colored building (orange in this case). It is a small interior, with about eight tables. Although pleasing to the eye, there is nothing extraordinary yet. Monarca is essentially a Taqueria, with tacos with various proteins, enchiladas, tortas, burritos, fish, and more. I usually judge a place like this on its pastor, or marinated pork, so I ordered a two dollar taco with that. It was delicious. Typical street taco with two tortillas, the filling, onions, and cilantro. Excellent. I knew that would not be enough to get me through the day, so I also ordered the Huarache supreme. A huarache is somewhat like a tostada in the shape of a sandal, with the base a little thicker than a tortilla. To try another flavor, this time my protein was Carne Asada which was good, although there were a couple of fatty chunks and one piece of gristle -- however most of the meat was very good. The food was very good, reasonably priced, with friendly service, I would happily come back if I am in the area and needing a meal. read more

We are visiting and stopped on a whim. The flavor was great. Very authentic. The Baria was fantastic! The carne asada was very tough. I could not cut it with the table knife and could barely chew it. There are only a few tables to sit at, a lot of people were ordering take out. The Easter themed Christmas tree was super cute. read more

Most authentic Mexican food in town. Barría tacos you can tell are made with love and definitely marinated for a while. My husband and I have gone here five times and we only eat out about once a month. Worth the price for the barría tacos and are seriously delicious. read more

My Spanish isn't great but I think the right term to describe this place is "muy delicioso." We stumbled upon Monarca after a day of boating in the hot sun, and all of the food really hit the spot. A few of the highlights included a massive quesadilla (see photo), carne asada burrito, and fantastic pastor tacos. And all for a great price! Great service, you walk in and order at the counter, but it's brought to your table! I think there's also a drive thru! The chips and salsa are great! The chips are pretty crunchy, but I like them. But some people might not. The asada tacos are excellent! Definitely some of the best I've ever had, probably the best in town! They're Coke, which was a downside for me, being a Pepsi fan. Worst Mexican food I've ever had I got nachos simple right... the chips were stale, the nacho cheese is horrible, the meat was cold I got informed after I ordered that I wouldn't be getting any sour cream or guacamole unless I pay extra which I had said I wanted the first time when ordering.
