Last fall, I had some tree removal and pruning that I needed done and received multiple quotes from various companies. Several of the trees presented a danger to my home, and I knew at least one was going to be especially challenging as all the other companies said they'd need a crane to get to it. It was a large job, and the quote was over $5,000. Davey's certified arborist, Shannon, came by on *multiple occasions* to scope the job and said they could do it with a bucket truck and didn't need a crane. He gave me a quote that was extremely competitive, so we signed a contract to have them come do the work. On the day the work was scheduled to be done, Shannon showed up with his crew and his equipment, including the bucket truck. The members of the crew balked at the job and said they wouldn't do it without a crane. Shannon said he'd go back to the office and let me know when they could come again with the crane. Later that week, he called to tell me they couldn't do the job after all - even with a crane. Davey Tree Service left me in the lurch and cost me thousands of dollars trying to find a replacement company that could handle the task they said they could do but later admitted they weren't capable of doing. Not recommended at all. Find someone who'll honor their agreements.

We had heavy wind last week that broke this tree. The situation was a perilous one: the tree could have fully snapped off at the base with the trunk slamming outward and the top of the tree dropping on the neighbor's fence and roof, or the top could have shifted and fallen with the same result. This was not a job we could have done. The crew arrived a bit before the appointed time, worked together extremely well together. This was a complicated job which required focus and expertise. Mr. Godoy led his crew through the slinging, strapping, cutting, sectioning and moving the tree to a standing position away from the neighbor's house and completely missing the fence. It was then carefully dropped into our yard. The tree was then cut up, and removed and chipped. The ground was extremely water-logged from many days of heavy rain and flooding. The tracked machine which helped pull and stabilize the tree and then carry away all of the wood did leave ruts. However, this was something we anticipated. The crew raked up all of the debris and then raked the ground and grass to pull up the ruts and sod. Great care and attention was given to my tree and yard, so as to put it back as carefully as they could. The yard was left clean and intact. I don't think anyone but a very experienced leader and crew could have done this work without causing great damage to the neighbor's house, yard, or fence - or to ours. I watched the entire process and was fascinated and impressed with the focus and commitment to good work. I would highly recommend this company and would hire them again.

My parents had a 70ft+ tall tree in their backyard, and the trunk was pressing into their garage…read morecausing the garage to lift and shift. I requested quotes via Yelp to remove the entire tree, INCLUDING stump and received four quotes. GTG was the second to most expensive quote, but as a real estate developer, for the risk associated with taking down such a large tree, I would not hire a company that didn't have basic credentials including license, bond, and/or insurance, and was not registered with the state of MI, and in good standing. GTG provided proof of their business insurance, is registered in good standing with MI, and has a A+ BBB rating, although not registered with the BBB. This was a complicated job: tall and wide tree stretched between my parents' yard and their neighbors, touching and shifting my parents' garage, and the 6ft chain link fence separating the yards had been consumed by the tree. Mike, the owner came out to the house for an in-person estimate, and I clearly communicated our main concern being the growing trunk. He put in writing at least three times (texts and quote) that he could remove the stump. When the day came to remove the tree, his team did that work quickly, but once they got to the stump, he said they could not do it due to risk of the chain link fence ruining their saws and stump grinder. We agreed to pay less than his quote for the work ($800), but he also said he would find someone else to do the work. Two days later he emailed a quote ($1400) that was more than what he quoted for the stump removal and said they had to come the same day (a Saturday, and I was out and about) and by another company that he did not tell me the specifics for, so I couldn't research them. Ultimately, GTG could not do the work, but Mike kept trying to tell me how difficult/complicated of a job it was... my response was, "but you knew that when you came out to see the tree before you bid the job!" Mike kept making excuses but would not accept responsibility for sending a bad quote. I think he purposefully misled us to get the work, knowing that he couldn't remove the stump. So, now I have go through finding, meeting, and vetting contractors yet again, to get the stump removed. I'm getting quotes, and one is $3000, so either Mike doesn't know to to bid work, or is dishonest. Mike is very charming, and he uses that to mislead customers. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!
