Awesome studio. Great place to get private instruction, take mat or barre classes.

Another spot I was so excited to see come to Charlottesville! I have been to several of the DC…read morelocations, so was very excited to try out one of the "community" classes in cville as the new instructors finish up their training. My class was with Megan W, who did an amazing job with the class. Since it was a training class, there were only 6 of us, so she was able to give each of us a ton of attention individually to make sure we were doing the moves correctly. This class is done on a Pilates mega former. Instead of trying to move quickly like with other classes, the goal is to move as slowly as possible and really feel the resistance. It's a low impact, high intensity workout that will leave you sore for days in the best way possible. I can't wait for this spot to fully with all the instructors fully trained!

If you're looking for a fitness program, I recommend you avoid [solidcore] and try one of the many other gyms in the area. First and foremost, I could never find a regular coach to work with. The turnover is rapid, with coaches going to other branches or disappearing entirely. Google "buzzfeed solidcore ceo harassment" and you will understand why. The exercise routine itself quickly became repetitive. It was the SAME situations targeting the SAME muscles, again and again, even if the class title was different. Whether it was "leg wrap & chest" or "hamstrings & arm wrap", I found myself doing the same movements. Needless to say, I ended up with an injury. After a dozen classes where I sometimes spent over 20 minutes doing planks, I got an inflamed bursa. [solidcore] then delivered their final insult: I asked to cancel my account, only to be told that there is a 30-day cancelation requirement. I am now suffering from pain, unable to exercise, and [solidcore] will charge my card for around $200 for classes that I cannot attend. Avoid [solidcore]. There are many great options in North Virginia. Don't risk your health for a fad.

We've visited two of acac's C-ville locations (Downtown & Albemarle Square) and they're both great…read more The facilities are immaculate. Machines and free-weights are clean and in good repair and I haven't seen them super crowded. The locker rooms are large and well-kept. Every staff member we've interacted with has been friendly, up-beat, and helpful. The Downtown location advertises a rooftop pool. While it does exist (and is nice), it's very small - basically the width of one lap-lane. Almost like a large plunge pool. Downtown also has a parking garage with free access for members which is excellent. Some other reviewers have accused acac of being too expensive, but we were actually pretty satisfied with the price. Given the amenities and multiple locations, we feel that the membership fee is plenty reasonable. If I had to call something out for being a bit overpriced, it'd be the smoothies at the gym cafes - they're good, but after Virginia sales tax and C-ville meal tax, you're looking at 10-11 bucks a pop. At that price point, I'll be bringing my own shakes for post-workout!

A very weird experience in a very nice gym. first, the good news: the ACAC location is clean,…read morewell-maintained and has everything anybody wants in a workout. I visited upstairs and did the elliptical, some free weights and a leg press. all worked great. I was disappointed to learn that ACAC as a multi-location workout facility doesn't have a membership tier that is inclusive for temporary/non-residents. it's either, you buy a one-time pass for $25; a three-day one; or a full monthly. nothing in between. Charlottesville itself is known for having a very transient, ever-changing population so this policy doesn't make sense to me. When I was there, some weirdo was on the stairclimber making this god-awful coughing noise about every 10 seconds. look, I know everyone has their workout quirks but spreading your germs around knowingly (in the age of airborne viruses like COVID) is a bad idea. I brought it to the attention of the desk attendant and she did not seem particularly phased by the news. ACAC Downtown is within walking distance of my flat/crashpad so I will go back. but I'm just hoping they either bring back the punch card or institute a program for non-residents to make life a bit easier.
