Comfort food menu with lots to choose from. Service is good, gets very busy after opening. This location is clean and newer than the other location. We ordered a variety of comfort food items and they came out hot and delicious. Would come back again.

Chicken, Crispy Roast Duck, Beef Chow Fun
Rosy C.

We ordered the split dish that allowed us to get Duck and Chicken. We also got the beef chow fun, spicy dumplings, milk tea, lemon tea and the Ovaltine toast. The duck was ok, kind of dry. The chicken was very juicy. The chow fun was my favorite along with the dumplings. The toast was a great dessert! The service was great. The young server who took our order was very nice and informative. The ambiance was clean, and organized! I will definitely be back.

The food was nothing spectacular. It wasn't bad but nothing really stood out. The beef chow fun maybe needed to be cooked a little hotter, nothing really had a seared concentrated taste, just a little oily. It wasn't bad just sterile. The hainese chicken was similar - it really just felt like poached chicken. The custard buns were good but too runny. The best part was probably the fruit tea. Would love to try the full dimsum set next time. The staff were great though and everything was super clean and modern. Lots of seating nice and quiet with comfortable tables. No complaints there. The location is convenient, while that parking lot is often busy I've always been able to find a spot somewhere. It's a little hidden.

This location is much smaller than the Clairemont location but it's opened on Tuesdays while the Clairemont one isn't. It also seemed like the menu here has a couple less options, but it's still great nonetheless. We got the hainanese chicken which was better at this location than the other. The chicken was not as thick and dry and it was pretty flavorful. I do wish that it was warm instead of cold tho. The spicy wontons were prob my favorite, I loveddd the spicy sauce! The green beans were solid too :) I LOVE HONG KONG CAFES

Hainanese Chicken and Rice

This place is so good!!! I've been craving hainanese chicken and rice for years and this really hit the spot. I want to come back and try everything else. Service was good too and the restaurant was very clean and comfortable.

Crispy Roast Duck
Jeanette I.

I really loved everything I ate here! Especially the hainanese chicken, roast duck, water spinach Malaysian spicy dish and my HK milk red bean coconut iced drink. The roast duck was perfect- crispy on the outside and moist and tender meat. I enjoyed and appreciated the mild salt used and no msg (or at least no msg I noticed- no thirst or saltiness). I will be back, best Chinese restaurant I've been to so far in San Diego.

This is a Hong Kong fusion restaurant. There are two locations and we went to the Mira Mesa one. Parking can get busy at peak times, but you should be able to find a spot since it's in a shared lot. It's not a huge place so it's kind of limited seating. We were a group of 4 but we were able to get a table. We ordered bbq rice, black pepper sirloin, the combo (you can use 2 out of 3 meats), and garlic water spinach. Service was okay but we got the food fast. Prices were reasonable since the portions were generous. This is a solid 4 out of 5. -bbq rice 5 - it comes with honey bbq pork and roast duck, an egg, veggies, and rice. Can be shared with 3-4 people. The meat was perfectly cooked and rice was soft. -black pepper sirloin 5 - the sirloin was tender and there was a good mix of veggies. I was surprised by how much meat they gave us. -combo with crispy roast duck and Hainanese chicken 4 - they were tasty but I wished the Hainanese chicken came with the rice. I didn't see a lot of bones for the crispy roast duck. -garlic water spinach 5 - veggies are good for you! Everything taste good with garlic.

Simple, kind of crowded, good if you want something quick. Not super familiar with the type of cuisine authenticity, but from what I hear, it's considered good

Food was soo good. We got the bbq pork and i dont usually like pork but it was so soft without being fatty. The spicy shrimp wontons was not spicy but it was still good. Egg fried rice with pork was decent. We got two fruit tea which was really good but one was more sour than the other so a little inconsistent. And the mango sago was not sweet which is a good thing in my opinion. It was just the right amount of sweetness. Its a pretty small cafe with some booth seatings but i wouldnt bring a party of more than 5. and the portions are shareables. The staff was pretty friendly and nice as well. I would def come back to try the duck.

Combo Mix Roast Platter

SCRUMPTIOUS! This was so much better than I was imagining. The roast duck was flavorful with crispy skin, and the xiao long bao surprised me with a darker soy sauce flavor. One of the best xiao long bao I've had in san diego. The wonton soup was delicious as well, always a good classic. I would order everything again! The staff is very attentive and the dishes were served in a timely manner. Lots of parking which is a bonus!

Delicious food with a menu filled with traditional and hard-to-find Cantonese-style Chinese dishes. The parking is somewhat difficult as it's in a small shopping center. One entering, you are welcomed by a bright interior decorated with nods to the HK street signs. You can order with the waiter or conveniently through a QR code. I liked all the food I tried and was impressed with the breadth of their menu that included fried milk and stewed meats. The pricing is similar to other Chinese restaurants although the quality is on point. I would definitely come back to try new items. We ordered beef flat noodle, beef with white radish, fried rice with pineapple, lava custard dim sum, and beef with Chinese broccoli. The lava buns were amazing and filled with salted egg. They are impressive! I also had the roast duck and pork. They were both good.

I was craving authentic HK cooking and was in SD; came across Mom Kitchen so wanted to give this place a try. They are busy, so placing a takeout order took 45 min. Would definitely recommend calling it in. **Food review** BBQ combination rice (4/5): Char siu pork was juicy and tender, better than the duck which was savory but on the skinnier side. Hainanese chicken & rice (4/5): I thought it was done well but my partner felt other establishments did it better. Black gold lava bun (5/5): I love liquid custard buns. Don't let the color scare you away! Mom Kitchen was an authentic HK restaurant. Would definitely love to return in the future.

Extremely delicious dishes that hit the spot. My husband and I had visited already twice and each time was wonderful. Seating and serving was fast (probably because we went off lunch/dinner hours because shortly after there was a lot of people waiting to get seated so expect a long wait if you arrive peak hours) The area itself was a small cafe but they did their best to accommodate the number of customers. Very clean and attentive. Their hong kong milk tea was especially good and I hope to try their lemon tea next since I've noticed a lot of customers order that.

They had the special menu for the Restaurant Week (see picture) as well as the regular set menu and All-You-Can-Eat. We opted for the special menu and it came with ALOT of food for $25 per person. Food was great. The Matcha ice cream was so delicious. Service was even better. Our server (with the initial R.D.) was phenomenal. He made our dining experience perfect.

Shortly after being seated, we noticed that our grill wasn't getting hot enough to properly cook our food. We brought it to our server's attention, but she assured us it was working fine. We had shrimp on the grill, which should cook relatively quickly, but it was barely cooking at all. When our server returned, we mentioned again that something wasn't right, and she offered to oil the grill. Unfortunately, that did nothing to resolve the issue. After about 20 minutes of trying to explain that the grill simply wasn't working properly, we finally insisted that something needed to be done and were moved to another table. We thought that would be the end of our issues, but shortly after sitting down, we noticed water dripping from above onto us and our grill. The manager happened to notice my husband looking up at the ceiling and asked what was wrong. When we explained that water was dripping on us, his response was essentially, "Oh yeah, that's condensation from the AC." What was most frustrating was how casually this was brushed off, as though having water drip onto guests and their food while dining was completely normal. No solution was offered, and we spent the remainder of our meal with water continuing to drip on us and onto the grill. We were really looking forward to a special anniversary dinner, but instead spent much of the evening dealing with issues that should have been addressed immediately. Equipment problems happen, and we understand that, but it's how those situations are handled that makes the difference. Unfortunately, the lack of urgency, dismissive responses, and overall handling of the situation left us feeling incredibly disappointed. Definitely not the anniversary experience we had hoped for.

The place is pretty spacious and have a good amount of tables and chairs, but we always still call ahead of time just to make sure since they do hold some events sometimes, and that means they couldn't seat as many parties outside of that event. The staff are generally nice and friendly, but it could be a hit or miss as well. We have encountered some grumpy staff who are probably just reaching the end of their shift. The food is good--I wouldn't say it's the best as there are some food that just aren't cooked so well sometimes. We've had some lechon kawali that were dry, hard, and obviously overcooked. Their sunny side up eggs are always a bummer for me too--they get so overcooked on the pan that it gets this plasticky texture at the bottom. However, we still leave with incredibly full and happy bellies every time we visit here. Would I recommend this place? Yes.

Upon walking up to the door, we noticed the closed sign but there was some tables filled already. Asked the young man if they were open or had a private party, he didn't even realize the closed sign was still on. He asked if we had reservations, we did not then he told us to wait outside to be called on, there were tons of empty clean tables, but we didn't argue. As soon as we stepped outside, before I could sit down we got called right back in by the other lady to come inside. Okay. Weird quick game of musical chairs lol. She explained to us how it goes. Drinks on this side of the room. Food on that side. Check. First plate: garlic fried rice (Sinangag), fried eggs, longoniza, Filipino spaghetti, lechon, and a bowl of arroz caldo. Also grabbed two cups, one for water the other for what the waitress said was mango ice tea (spoiler alert: no mangoes were hurt in the process of making this ice tea). Second plate: watermelon and pineapple slices, menudo, kare kare, ube pancake. First the sinangag tasted like it's been left out too long even though it was just brought out. Lots of hard pieces of rice. I decided to not finish it. Next, the fried eggs and longaniza. Fried eggs felt too rubbery for maybe just me. And the longaniza didn't taste anything like longaniza. No spices no garlic. Just a basic sweet hot dog. Maybe I'm wrong and it's just a hot dog. I can say the Filipino spaghetti did taste somewhat like actual Filipino spaghetti, sweet. But not too sweet but also didn't see any hot dogs in there! Now the lechon. Tasted exactly like fried pork. That has zero spices and kinda been out for a while. The arroz caldo had some shreds of chicken I think but I had to fetch for it in the pot. Unfortunately there's no boiled eggs to add but you can add everything else to it like the fried garlic, spring onions lemon etc. Now the drinks. What's up with the non mango mango iced tea? It just tasted like iced tea and if I was told that id be okay. But I love mango drinks and was looking forward to it. The water is the only thing I could say I wasn't disappointed with and only if I didn't have to get it myself I guess would be the only downside lol. I did try to get a second plate. Consisted of some watermelon slices and pineapple slices, menudo and kare kare with white rice. The kare kare and menudo did look like what they were called and that is about it in comparison to what I've had in the past. The menudo had no tomato paste taste to it and was rather bland and the kare kare was also bland. Their kare kare sauce was very watery, missing the thick savory peanut buttery taste. And unfortunately, it was the watermelon slices that made me quit and lose my appetite. It had a weird rotten taste to it. I almost had to vomit. First I thought it was soaked in something maybe vinegar, or I dunno. But I just could not eat anything else. I hope today was just an off day and the food is better. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll ever come back or even recommend my friend or family to come eat here.

One of my favorite things about this place is how easy it is. You order on the kiosk, grab a seat, and your food usually comes out within like 10-15 minutes. The inside has a lot of seating and even games like Jenga which makes it feel like a fun spot to hang out for lunch. I didn't interact much with service since I used the kiosk, but the worker upfront was really friendly and even brought my takeout to my table. This time I tried the Dynamite Crawfish Bowl and the Dynamite Fries. The bowl comes with crawfish, rice, dynamite sauce, eel sauce, seaweed, sesame seeds, and pickled radish on top. The fries normally come with sweet potato fries but I swapped mine for regular fries because I just wasn't feeling sweet potato that day. The fries were honestly kind of underwhelming. It was basically fries with dynamite sauce and only a few pieces of garlic confit, which was the part I was most excited for. They weren't bad, just really underwhelming. I honestly think the sweet potato fries probably would've worked better with the flavors. The crawfish bowl though was really good. The crawfish had this slight smoky flavor to it like it was lightly torched and they give you a lot in each bite. The rice was fluffy and cooked perfectly and the pickled radish on top helped cut through all the richness from the sauces. Everything worked really well together flavor wise. My only complaint is that halfway through the bowl the flavors started blending together a little too much and it gets boring, but overall it was still super satisfying and filling. Definitely still one of my favorite quick lunch spots in Carmel Mountain and somewhere I'd bring friends because the menu has so many good options. Their dessert menu also sounds insane so I already know I'll be back.

Love that you get to see the chefs cook (grill) in front you at the bar. Their menu is simple which I say is always a good thing. Unfortunately there were a couple of skewers I wasn't fond of- like the beef tongue. Listen, I've had beef tongue prepared in a variety of ways including yakitori style, but this one just wasn't up to par... The tongue still tasted like tongue. I know that sounds weird, but it's like they didn't clean it very well- which in turn made it taste & smell like part of the cow still and I am not down with that. Also, the chicken thigh wasn't as cooked as I thought it would be... Maybe it's suppose to be prepared that way? IDK. That was also a no for me. The highlights were everything else! It's cute that they keep the bone in when you order the chicken wing. It's butterflied on the skewer, different. Loved all the pork items we got as well as the beef skewers. Their takoyaki [$7.50] was super good too! Skewers range from $3.75 to $7.00 each with 3-4 pcs a skewer. Everyone that helped us was friendly! Big parking lot and the restaurant was nicely kept. The ice cream dessert topped us off in such a good way. We'll be back to try more skewers and more of their menu.
