Even though I showed the sales associate a bonified "power of attorney" that legally gives me the right to sign for my mom's check on her behalf; the store owner of Molly Malone's would not let me sign for my mom because my name was not printed on her check- it was a legal issue for her. According to North Carolina law, a power of attorney allows me to act on my mom's behalf-I am her legal representative. I had to bring my mom who suffered from back fractures, knee pain and she was in pain at the time in to the store to sign the check. My mom has a hard time getting around sometimes. I was very upset. The sales associate was perfect and did what the owner of the company asked her to do. I am very glad that the sales associate was able to tolerate my being upset and waited on me to bring my mom in the store. However, the owner of Molly Malone's made me feel like I was being discriminated against. I would like to see the law where my name has to be printed on my mom's check in order to sign for her when I have a power of attorney. I told the sales associate that my name was linked properly to my mom's checking account and the bank never indicated to me that my mom had to add my name to her checking account or that she would have to have my name printed on her checks. The bank indicated the power of attorney was all that mom needed. My mom's knee was hurting bad and she asked me to go in the store for her. She saw the wrap in the store window and wanted it. I was not doing anything wrong or illegal. I have never had a problem with other stores in regards to this 'issue' of signing for my mom on her checks and I have always shown the power of attorney when it was asked . I am very upset over this experience. From a legal standpoint, I had what I needed to have in order to sign for my mom on her check. I should not have been asked for another form of payment and I did not need to bring my mom in the store who was in pain to sign for the check. I was told that I could pay with a check but then I was given a hard time trying to write with a check for my mom who was out in the car waiting on her purchase. I did appreciate how the sales associate was nice to my mom and me while we were in the store. But after today, I do not want to every shop at Molly Malone's again for myself or for my mom. It was a very horrible and upsetting experience for me. It was more trouble than what it was worth. read more
