The Artisan Soapery beckoned us to enter with a tantalizing fragrance that wafted our way through the open door, and we were powerless to resist. The seductive scents came from a variety of handcrafted skin care products and candles that are beautifully displayed inside the shop. We met the owner, Katye, who creates all of these amazing products in her home town of Hanford, CA. She gave us taste tests of the scrumptious line of handmade jams that she carries while we browsed. I'm a sucker for beautifully scented soaps, and Katye has created some amazing blends, everything from those familiar expected blends like lavender vanilla, oatmeal milk & honey, and cherry blossom, to more exotic combinations such as honeysuckle with notes of jasmine, tuberose, nectarine, sandalwood, and musk. Yes, that last one combined subtle notes of all 6 scents, simply heaven. All her soaps are handmade and organic; some contain goats milk, but many of them are based on coconut oil and are therefore vegan, a big bonus for my family as my mom is vegan. They have even created a line of natural soaps for our canine friends (check out the photos, they're adorable). In addition to the soaps they are named for, Artisan Soapery also carries a line of skin products such as shampoos and conditioners, lotion, face scrub, essential oils, even diaper rash cream. The soaps and candles smell sweet, but the jams are simply amazing. The next time you're in Morro Bay, drop in and browse this adorably decorate shop. You won't regret it.

This was the best little place. I was visiting Hickory & stopped in. The owner was the nicest person. Lots & lots of soaps to choose from. So many that smell AMAZING!!

The only soap I use. The goats milk soap is amazing! Aside from their soaps, they also make great smelling candles!

This came up on Yelp during my search for antique stores in Hickory. This is NOT an antique store…read morebut it's a pretty cool furniture store with what seemed to be reasonable prices.

A very nice consignment store, well laid out, up and downstairs. Lots of stuff, although all we…read morewanted to see were chairs. Help was available and they were very helpful. We saw one chair we liked. It would fit our needs, was the acceptable color, material and size...a la my wife's seeking standards. Did we buy it? Of course not. Hickory is loaded with furniture outlets, so off we went a exploring. A couple of more locations and them the big kaboom: the Hickory Furniture Mart. Another review coming on this enormous, four level block-filling edifice containing just about any manufacturer and style of furniture one could imagine. We did not find anything that was better than the one at The Hickory Tree, so after some coffee and lunch at the Olde Hickory Station (see that review), we returned to the Hickory Tree. Since this was a consignment store, all items had a sales price tag with the prices listed over time. What I mean is that a price of $175 was scheduled to cost $150 on the first of the next month, then it would cost $135 the next month, and so on. This being the middle of the month, and not wanting to risk the desire chair being sold while we waited, we bought it...right then. They accepted credit cards. With the help of a young man we loaded this chair into our SUV and were off for home. An excellent, but exhausting furniture shopping experience that I survived. Before you blow your mind out looking for furniture all over, start here at the Hickory Tree. Prices reasonable and mark-downs abound. And nice people.
