That " Fine Jewelry" vendor cart treats people like crap. Skinny foreign guy said Americans are stupid & was super rude. Other guy was condescending. Unacceptable. Many of my recent mall visits lately have been to malls that are slowly on their last legs so I was pleased to see a busy parking lot and inside, a more than decent crowd. Lots of people carrying bags and supporting the retail economy. There is an indoor mask mandate in North Carolina and it was definitely being honored today. The food court was slammed with just about every table in use. A big merry-go-round with a bunch of kids on it, overlooking the usual pizza, sandwiches, burgers, Chinese. Nothing particularly healthy and all queued up. The mall is clean and there was a visible security presence all around the interior but I did not see one outside. Nearly all storefronts were occupied though the Sears anchor is closed. I think this mall will continue to be around for at least a few more years. When I was very little up until I was a teenager, my aunt and I would go shopping here EVERY Sunday. I can even remember when the food court was in a different area, and the whole mall looked different before renovations. As a teenager in the 2000's, it became a CLEAN and SAFE place for me and my friends to hang out and shop. So whenever I visit now, it gives me so much nostalgia. It's always been the "place" to go in Hickory, because there are no other malls nearby- you'd have to drive at least 30+ miles one way. The mall itself is not the biggest, I believe it has just the right amount of stores, and a great selection at that! There are some stores that have went out of business over the years and most recently Hickory's beloved "Sarku Japan" (we all miss the sample guy!) Even though it's a chain restaurant, no other location tastes quite that good. As much as we miss some of our beloved stores and kiosks, I'm beginning to worry about the future of this mall all together because it seems to be losing a lot of the life it used to have. I really hope it makes a comeback! read more

In the past two weeks, I've been at several of the mega Malls in Atlanta and Charlotte. Way too big. Too Crowded, you end up parking in the next county and the clerks are so stressed out, it's not a pleasant time. That's why I like places like Valley Hills Mall. Not as crowded but most of the same anchor stores. Good selection and while busy, not as stressful as the mega Malls. Good food court and where else can you eat while the kids ride a full sized Carousel. For Christmas Shopping, this is more like it. read more

Oh how I miss having a good mall around! It was really nice to be out of town and get to a mall of this caliber. There are plenty of stores in this two level mall which has an elevator as well as stairs to accommodate handicapped and mums with strollers. The mall itself is clean and decorated nicely which they were decorating for Christmas. The parking lot is huge so you'll have no issues finding a spot. Most of the stores in the mall were having sales and I couldn't believe the deals I found. American Eagle Outfitters, As Seen on T.V., Bath and Body Works, Bedazzled Bridal and Formalwear, Buckle, Brow Works, Holister, H&M, Hibbett Sports,GNC, Hot Topic,and more for your shopping pleasure. In the food court you'll find a variety of places to eat such as Chick-Fil-A, Dairy Queen/Orange Julius, Italian Village Pizza, Mandarin Express to name a few. I really enjoyed this mall and hope to visit again! read more

I go by Smallest Spark across social media I was having a great day with my girlfriend at the mall, I started to make an inspirational video for my followers. Out of nowhere with no one around this security worker comes up to us. Says we aren't allowed to do that here, I understood that the mall may have policies against recording an inspirational video, but I would appreciated less attitude and a reason of why a harmless inspirational video wasn't allowed. read more

I grew up going to this mall and it's been upgraded through the years. There was a particular time when stores were closing left and right but it has come a long way. It was my first time stopping in and noticed that there is not a H&M. It's one of the most popular stores at the moment and it was surprising to see it inside Valley Hills Mall. H&M definitely brought life to the mall. For a town the size of Hickory, Valley Hills Mall is the perfect size mall. I would love to see more food options. read more

I parked briefly in the parking lot prior to the mall opening. I was googling what stores were available. A security guard pulled up to my van to harass me. I was sitting in a van. I understand turning away vandals, but harassing middle aged women sitting in a van seems excessive and very rude. I would recommend malls in Charlotte. read more

A shell of a mall. Lots of empty stores. Middle of December, one might expect some holiday hours but they don't open until noon on the weekend. Sign on the front door did not even have holiday hours, but rather had a QR code that requires you to pull out your phone, scan the code, and then get their holiday hours... which are apparently exactly the same as their normal hours. Got to love technology. Why not just put holiday hours on the actual sign? No wonder everyone shops online more now. read more

Very nice mall! I was impressed with the variety of stores and the overall feel They've got some staple department stores including belk, J.C. Penney and sears as well as tons of mall necessities like VS, a few sports stores, kids clothing, BBW, etc. The food court had some decent choices and they even have a fun play area to let the kids burn off energy while parents relax a bit. While staying overnight, and being rained out of the nearby racetrack, we decided to walk around this nearby mall after dinner. Since it was raining we really appreciated the under roof parking. The mall was clean with good lighting. We found plenty of stores with a good selection. We found every sales person to be nice and knowledgeable about the store. Unlike most mall visits we managed to pick up quite a few items that we could use back home. The fist place we hit was a ice cream shop so we were in a good mood during the two hours we spent walking around the mall. We found that this was a nice introduction to the area. read more

Valley Hills Mall - it's big, it's a mall, and it's in Hickory. I went through a withdrawal period when the Gap shut down. The Gap is my jam! The anchors are Belk, Sears, JC Penney and Dillards. You'll find the usual suspects like American Eagle, Hollister, Pac Sun, Journeys and Spencer's. The food court is above average thanks to Chick-fil-A and Dairy Queen/Orange Julius. The only thing I don't like, which my kids love, is the silly ride on train that goes through the mall; it comes out of nowhere and will run you over. Not cool. Now they even have giant ride on motorized stuffed animals you can rent. I saw a forty year old man riding a bear and smiling like it was his Birthday; I kid you not, it was quite a sight to behold. read more

I have moved away for three years, and just moved back. I am thrilled to see the new stores, new foodshops, and a more eclectic feel. It is not geared JUST to the teeny boppers anymore! Great growth, and very happy with the shops, especially since these are companies we know. Yes, a couple of private stores, but truly not much. Shopping malls are quickly becoming a thing of our yesterdays. Thousands of malls world wide are now shut down, torn down and some are even being reclaimed by mother nature herself. I remember Valley HIlls Mall back in the 80's. It was a thriving wonderful place to shop and I never tired of going there with my Grandmother and Aunt. I haven't been there in more than 20 years until this past week. I have recently been in the other dying malls and expected the same here but to my delight, it was doing ok! I went during the business day this past Tuesday, which is not a busy time for most retail venues but there were actually quite a few shoppers. Not just mall walkers either but actual shoppers who were buying! Yes, there are several empty stores but not nearly as many as I had anticipated. I give Valley Hills Mall full credit for doing something right to keep business thriving during this economic climate. I will be back! ps. I do very much miss Annabelle's restaurant that used to be there back in the 80's. It was wonderful....or at least that is what the teenage me thought :D Happy Shopping! read more

We have shopped at Dillard's for years. We have four kids and loved their clothes and we BUY a lot of clothes. Last trip my wife and daughter were shopping the clearance sale. Security guard followed them throughout the store for 1.5 hours up and down escalators. He would stand close by and watch them. At checkout my wife advised she wanted to speak to manager and she did. He stated she had been followed and he apologized. By the way, my wife PURCHASED over $500 in clothes. I reached out to their managers that evening and they apologized and stated they would call me back. Never received a follow up call and even reached out to their VP of stores Brant Musgrave and never received a return message. We normally spend $3000 - $4000 a year on clothes there. NOT ANYMORE. We shop online at Macy's or Nordstrom now. With online shopping taking over, brick and mortar stores should take care of their customers. Especially the ones who spend a lot of money in their stores. read more

Just want you to know first I will never be coming back to the mall .I visited several of the stores there doing school shopping and was humiliated from store to store. I was looking for clothes for my teen and was told time and time again from store to store that they dont carrie clothes for larger people. That just made my daughter cry over and over. I am sorry but not every teen is going to be size 1 some are larger and wear a size 18. Girl's some have bigger hips. Well even when I ask the workers in the stores they would give me a horrible look and one even said with a harsh face we dont have clothes any-bigger than size 15 jeans. Well do you know how bad that makes a teen feel. They are already scared of there own body and they really just made it worse.So I would tell any one who ask dont bother going to the Mall in Hickory if you are not a skinny person because they dont have clothes but for a smaller person. read more
