My grandma and I went shopping here for the first time and we spent around $700. The owner was in…read morethe store and she checked us out. She told us as long as we had our receipt and the tags on the clothes we could return or exchange if we wanted to. Some clothes didn't work out so we went to return them, we had our tags on the clothes and the receipt. Initially, she pretended to accept the return. A few seconds later in the middle of the store, she comes up to my grandma in a really rude way and says that the clothes smell like cigarettes and that's why she can't return them. These clothes mostly stayed in their bag in my room, I personally don't smoke. The only time we used these clothes was to try them on, in the only other chance that these clothes could've had to pick up a cigarette smell was when I was in the car with my grandma. I highly doubt that alone caused a cigarette smell. This place has absolutely no indication on their website or in person that smelling of smoke is a reason why it can't be returned. My grandma and I have returned clothes many times before at different places, we know this is not a normal rule. The thing that I found the most rude was that after the owner told us there would be no exchange, and was being bitchy about the cigarette thing, she started suggesting clothes for me to still try on and for me to buy from her basically. We just left immediately because that was so rude and of course we're not gonna give you more money after we just realized that you're going to screw us over. Every other place I've been to has accepted my returns no matter what, if it was that much of a problem, you could take the tag off the clothes and just wash it. So now I'm left with these ugly clothes and Goodwill to have to donate them to. (I'll show a dress as an example, as you can see the tag is still on it because I don't even like it) I have smelled this dress 100 times to see if it has any cigarette smell that she was talking about because as I said, these clothes were in the bag, in my room. I swear these clothes do not smell like cigarettes at all and I don't smoke so I would know.

Preferential treatment towards particular customers especially due to who they know in the business and how much they spend. If you don't "fit" their style or are older.....good luck. I bought an item right before the COVID-19 shut down so of course I could not return it within the seven day return policy that they have in place. Seven day return policy I think is ridiculous anyway especially for people that may be from out of town. I pointed that out to the sales person working today and because they have been open for over two weeks since the shut down she said they couldn't return it. I have looked several times to see if they were open since shut down and today was the first time I saw them open. So if they are willing to lose a customer over a $20 shirt when I was prepared purchase 4 other ones and a dress then so be it .....I'm done with them! They get a -5 stars from this customer! To be clear I don't hold the sales person responsible, I hold the person whom she called on the phone to ask about that exchange responsible and I'm assuming that was her manager. I think most Retailers have been very flexible with exchanges and the time frame of exchanges due to Covid 19 pandemic shut down. Had she cited the reason she couldn't take the return back was because of COVID-19 and I may have reacted differently but that wasn't the reason I was given.

I went from a casual browse to a loyal customer. Since the first visit, I have purchased some art, a new dress, and awesome jewelry here. The owner make jewelry and also looks for items locally made- which I appreciate. When I was talking to her about fit, she was able to point me in the directions of pieces that would flatter my shape and skin tone. This store has everything! The clothes are wonderful (there is something there for everyone), the jewelry (mostly handmade by Margaret herself or local designers) is divine and the store itself makes you feel comfortable and at home, as does Margaret. This is absolutely a must if you live in or are planning on being in Hickory anytime soon!
