I don't know if the elderly woman working as a hostess at the door is an owner, a wife, family friend, or simply a pity hire due to her old age, but she has no business working customer service at a restaurant. She lied to me and several other groups about wait times, and seating availability only to double down several times about how soon we will be seated. She obviously has zero idea about how food service works, customer service relations, or kitchen service/food service times. The standout side dish for me was the sauteed mushrooms, with plenty of minced garlic in a white wine sauce. Many of the staff were young and recently trained, but all were working hard. In a town like Ruidoso, labor is very tight, costs are high, and the customers often come in large, hard-to-handle parties, all packed into high-season rush hour. So five stars in Ruidoso doesn't mean "perfect", it means "as good as possible, given the constraints they have to work with". Folks are all doing their best, so I try to do my part by planning ahead, making reservations, and bringing my best self.
