Keiki taro burger
Rafid D.

The pictures of the food posted for this restaurant are not current. Half the food that looks delicious is no longer served and not on the menu, like the passion fruit cheesecake, fruit tart, enchiladas, pizza, etc. We were recommended the yuca fries, and they were dry and tasted like cardboard. Again we were sucked in by the food photos on this yelp page but none were offered. The taro burger was decent, the pad thai was another weak item. We won't return here.

Strawberry beet salad and guac cocktail

This place is sooooo good, we've eaten here 4 times between the 2 times we've visited Maui. We were craving something different, lighter and a bit healthier during our trip and Moku Root is the exact place we were looking for. This most recent trip, we ate the same salad twice because it was that good. Their strawberry beet salad was so refreshing, tasty, and plentiful. The serving size was actually bigger than we expected and we often shared it. Their cocktails are also really unique, I recommend trying it at least once. It was nice getting something different! Lastly, love their focus on sustainability - I don't think they have anything disposable at their restaurant, including to-go containers, so you'll have to put a "deposit" of $10 down if you do to-go, but you can return it and get it back. Luckily, we were close by in Ka'anapali, but I can see this being inconvenient if you were just stopping by while you were in the area or trying to take something on your way to the airport.

The fajita bowl with tarp patty and a chai latte
Sarah M.

So good! Vegan/ Vegetarian, zero waste, local produce. I ordered the fajita bowl with a taro patty instead of mushrooms. The greens are fresh, the jalapeño cream is smooth and delicious, and the taro patty adds some nice texture. And the portion is very generous. I also ordered a chai latte to drink. It is a deliciously spicy chai with macadamia milk. One of the best I've had in awhile. I love the zero waste concept! I ordered to go, and I paid a deposit for my dishes (a tin for my meal and a jar for my drink), which I will get back when I return the dishes tomorrow. Definitely worth a try!

High protein sandwich, Aena bowl (sorry I might have misspelled the name as the online menu does not seem to list it) and Juneshine!

Vegan/veg reviewer: This restaurant has a lot of varieties. We ordered these two dishes, I can assure there were a tonne of more appetizing options. But you gotta peek into your wallet too, haha- High protein veggie sandwich with taro patty and Aina bowl. My partner loved the sandwich, the Taro patty was a great addition. I loved the bowl, so healthy and fresh! We gobbled it up pretty darn quickly, I would recommend this place overall for ambience, food quality and options! Oh and hey they did not have paper towels/napkins but cloth napkins. Environment friendly

Falafel Wrap

Absolutely amazing! Unassuming local walk up in a nondescript strip mall, but NOTHING about this place is average! The wraps are amazing, the bowls are gorgeous and so satisfying, and the kombucha and cocktails are tasty! Plus, this is one of the most sustainable zero waste establishments I've ever been too! Bravo! The only possible downside is that it's not really an "ambience" place.... There are tables inside and a few out front as well.

My family of 5 all showed up for Friday lunch at Moku Roots with high expectations. We were met with an amazing eating experience. As posted in the photo, the Cheezy Kale Salad with Vegan Ricotta Cheeze was an exquisite fresh salad. The Vegan Ricotta Cheeze was a yummy addition to the already masterful dish. My husband exclaimed that the Moku Grain Bowl was an explosion of flavors. He further opined that the vegan cheeze dressing was a delicious pairing with it. These first two dishes impressed us with their freshness and healthy vibes. The kids also had Taro Fingers apppetizer, a Loaded Lahaina Strong Burger, and a BLAT (vegan BLT) sandwich. All 3 of them were totally satisfied with their meal and gave us two thumbs up when we asked them how they liked it. Finally, our 3 kids wanted to have some desserts. Moku Roots offered us a couple slices of vegan lilikoi cheezecake and one slice of Java guava key lime pie. They were ecstatic to have such delicious sweetness on the beach afterwards to top off their amazing time at Airport Beach afterwards. All in all, we were super delighted to have Friday lunch at Moku Roots, and we are even more excited to stop by later on our trip for another future meal before we have to fly back home from Maui. If you are looking for a premier vegan restaurant with amazing vibes, make Moku Roots your first eating destination when you arrive in West Maui. If you are looking for great organic fresh eats, you should definitely come to Moku Roots. You will not be disappointed. Instead, you will be titillated! Update me- we came here 3 times! This place is pretty nice! We also tried their lilikoi and guava cheesecakes!

Love that every thing here is thoughtfully sourced, clean, good-for-you ingredients! Even keeping in mind Zero waste and being environmentally conscious with their utensils down to the napkins, water cups, and silverware. Dairy-free/gluten free options. Vegan friendly. Service was pleasant & down to earth as well. Got the High Protein sandwich with an addition of the taro patty and tasted so so good. Perfectly balanced in flavor & taste. The vibe of the place went with the whole theme of what this place stands for--Earth conscious, so again, down-to-Earth & super chill. All around amazing offerings in every which way, which is why I gave it the FULL 5 star!

Really enjoyed our meal here. The menu items all sounded so good. The local harvest smoothie was absolutely delish. Enjoyed my sushi-rito and my husband liked his taro burger.

Coconut noodle bowl
Lianna B.

Not a vegan but I was looking for "healthier" place to eat with lots of veggies and stumbled across this gem of a place. Not only was everything delicious but the service was friendly, quick and they are zero waste and use all veggies are local. What more could you want? The coconut noodle bowl was so packed it could almost have served 2. The fried rice in the pineapple was a bit smaller but so flavourful and the taro patty it was topped with was quite unique. The prices are reasonable for the amount of local produce you're getting and portion size. Can't recommend this place enough to both vegetarians and non vegetarians

Salud-a-bowl
Kristi P.

Wow! I'm a carnivore, but this vegan/vegetarian place was amazing! I love their No Waste philosophy, which they really live by. Everything is either reusable or natural--from their young bamboo straws to their soft cloth napkins. Their leftover containers are banana leaves! Their take-out containers are cute metal boxes that you pay a $10 deposit for to return or re-use. Coconut noodle bowl: 6/5 This bowl was spectacular! The young coconut is refreshingly tangy and there are so many components to this dish, which come together into an exciting bowl of umami, sweet, tangy, creamy, and refreshing. It makes you feel good to eat it, and it's very filling. Salud-a-bowl: A good filling bowl, but just not as exciting compared with the Coconut bowl. I could eat here everyday! I can't wait to come back the next time I'm on the island.

Tacos Smoothie of the Day Fries

Small restaurant with healthy, vegan fare. Sustainability is their main theme in everything, from utensils to cloth napkins. Food was tasty. There was no indoor seating and the outdoor seating tables are not fully shaded. Be prepared to sit out in the sun if you go for lunch.

High protein sandwich - sooo good
Emily V.

This was my favorite restaurant in Maui! I went here twice during my week here. I got the falafel wrap one time and the high protein sandwich the other time. Both were super delicious. I also love how they reduce waste in everything they do there. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Maui.

Large Smoothie to go
Doug J.

My five is based on only one menu item so far my "Local Harvest Smoothie ". But the score is well deserved for the refreshing, tasty, fresh, LARGE, smoothie that brought my body back to balance after five hours on the beach playing with grandkids. People were great at Moku and I enjoyed looking at what else they offered for another trip. The smoothie recipe- strawberry, banana, papaya, pineapple and mac nut milk was just outstanding.

Happy hour!!!

Ask the Community - Moku Roots

Hi, are tips mandatory?

They are very much appreciated! I would say, yes. Tips are their main source of income. You're paying for service. Moku Roots has EXCELLENT service. Some of the best on Maui.

Do they have vegan-gluten free options?

Hi Jen! Our entire menu is vegan except the Breakfast Burrito that has eggs. And we can make almost anything gluten free! We have gluten free bread for sandwiches and we do lettuce cups as an alternative for the wraps. Hope to see you soon!… Read more

I took my parents for their 44th Anniversary and we all love outdoorsy activities so I knew we'd all enjoy this! We were asked to arrive at 10:30 am for the tour and it lasted until 1-1:30 pm. Arrive with good walking shoes, SPF, light sweater and hat (it can get either a little chilly or hot from the direct sunlight), and well hydrated if possible. We were greeted by our friendly and knowledgeable tourguide, Kate from Maryland! She shared with us so many facts about the locally grown produce from herbs, vegetables, fruits, to the friendly worms, to compost and facts about the Farm and the hardworking staff! It was interactive because we got to sniff the herbs, taste the locally grown lettuce, carry a chicken (as seen in the photo with my mom), and even pick the Cherry coffee! After the 2 hour tour, the last hour takes you back to this beautiful seating area in a garden like setting for your 4 course lunch! Each course, the chef comes out and shares details of each course. First course was a Medley of Greens grown on the farm with Tangerine vinaigrette. It was a generous portion for our party of 3 and tried to eat it throughout. There was spiraled carrots and radish with julienned snap peas. Second course was Pan Seared Ono (their proteins are all locally sourced) with Mamaki Tea and Lemongrass Rice with Bok Choy, Collared Greens and Cabbage. Third course was my favorite! I'm usually a big fan of fish but the chicken was so savory and that rub was delish! It was an Organic, Cage Free Chicken with Coffee Cherry Citrus rub with Caramelized Coffee Honey Hash of Carrots, Parsnips, Rutabaga and Celery Root. The spread was a Turmeric and Parsnip puree. Last course of dessert was the O'o Freshly Brewed Coffee with Milk and Simple Syrup with a Dessert Platter of Fresh sliced Pineapple, Tangerine and Apple with Homemade Chocolate Truffles. The meal left us full and nourished! What a wonderful anniversary gift to give my parents. We truly enjoyed it and even made some new friends, both local and visiting.

My son enjoyed the mahi mahi tremendously, which for a kiddo who only eats chicken normally, is a huge compliment! I thought the tour was very informative and interactive as well. Overall, worthwhile experience, despite the long drive from Lahaina. I would do this again, whether it is the brunch + coffee tour or the lunch tour!

The shop had a nice assortment of other gifts, as well as the truffles. The truffles were definitely my favorite. You can just get one if you want, or you can pick out several to make a box to take home. We walked around and saw the area where the babies/young goats played on the surfboards, which is super cute. The tour would have been nice to learn some history and information, but it is still really nice to go without the tour. It was a fun and peaceful little experience.
