My favorite sushi restaurant in Champaign! I come here often and they're always nice and it's a quiet atmosphere. Definitely recommend the all you can eat sushi! read more

The AYCE sushi is a great concept. For $25 per person this place has a great variety of appetizers, sushi rolls, and fish. We had a pretty large party and suggested the waiter separate our orders into smaller groups. We figured this would make things easier and we did not mind sharing our food according to our individual groups. We were given one pen to share amongst our large party, the food came out and the waiter did not know who ordered what, and some guests did not receive all of their appetizers. Not a big deal since the food quality and quantity was better than expected and the sushi tasted fresh. Service and organization for large parties could be better for a more enjoyable experience. read more

First of all, it smells really bad inside but despite my offended nose I sat down. Was handed a menu and order sheet. Was not told that dinner is all you can eat. That's awesome! After sitting there for 15 to 20 minutes I finally asked if they had soy paper or rice paper and was told no. What kind of sushi restaurant doesn't have soy paper or rice paper? So I excused myself. I really like this place, very good sushi for the price! All you can eat for only $24.99, it is amazing! Just be careful with the amount of food that you ask, because if you do not eat you will have to pay $1 for each piece that is left in the plate. Also, the nigiri is very good! Big pice of fish in each read more

FINALLY decent sushi bar in Champaign. Hope they don't lose their food quality later. You would not regret to choose here for fancy dinner!

I am currently writing this review while waiting, at this point for an hour and 15 minutes, for our sushi order to come out. Five of us came here for the AYCE but have received nothing but water and some small side dishes that we had put in from our first order. These came out relatively quickly but we have yet to eat any sushi after an hour and 15 minutes of waiting. There is only one server for over 15 tables. Not to mention, there is an incredibly high 18% tip that is already included in your bill for this utterly disappointing service. One of my friends dining with me tonight hasn't even gotten his water refilled. How are you going to charge that high of a tip beforehand when this is your level of customer service... The one star is for the appealing aesthetic of the restaraunt but that's it. If you really want to come here and dine, I highly recommend getting take out. Honestly for what you're paying just go next door to harvest for some sushi. Their sushi is fresh, tasty, and ready to go unlike Moki "AYCE". read more

I'm giving it 2 stars for the decor and the food. I have been here a handful of times for the all you can eat lunch for $18. Every time I arrive, I stand at the door for at least 5 minutes until someone seats me. The guys making the sushi looked at me and didn't even greet me when I walked in. I know it's not their job to seat me, but a "hello" would be nice. The service once I was seated was also poor. It's very slow. The food is pretty good, so that's why I kept going back. I don't think I'll be back to this place anytime soon. I'll stick to the other sushi joints in the area. read more

This was my fourth time here and it has just gotten worse and worse every time. The food was terrible this time. Rubbery fish, oily tempura, and ABYSMAL service. Our waiter barely spoke English and got 2 of our rolls wrong. Everything tasted old like it was in the fridge for a week. It also took 40 minutes in a 1/3 full restaurant for 3 rolls and about 15 pieces of nigiri. Very disappointed with this place again. I will not be coming back and I recommend you don't come here in the first place. read more

Tried it twice. Disappointed twice. Service is terrible and food is subpar. Too bad they don't put as much effort into the food as they did the decor. Total let down. read more

Okay I have issues with both the service and the general food safety cleanliness and covid cleanliness. Food was monthly fine, like a 6/10 with one or two of the rolls being dry or bland, like a 4/10. Came to pick up an online order (said it was going to be ready in 25 mins and I showed up about 35 mins later), and after being ignored for a while, then having the server reconfirm the name I was picking up for 2-3 times, and waiting for 15 mins, he said it would be another 30 mins. When I mentioned the website indicated pickup time, he said "that's impossible, we can't do such a huge order in 20 minutes" It was 4 rolls and 2 appetizers, which I don't feel like it such a huge order, but whatever. They were fairly busy but not nuts, a little over half tables full. But they looked understaffed and I get it. When I ccame back about 40 mins later I was completely ignored for a while again despite trying to flag the guy down, then he said they were out of takoyako and he subbed it with something with shrimp. Okay fine, I'm just hungry lol. Surprise, no takoyako, and no substitute, so we just paid for an appetizer we didn't get. I'm not mad about the website being wrong about the pickup time, I'm not mad about the food taking a total an hour and 40 mins, I'm not mad about them being out of stuff. But having to wait around through multiple interactions with staff for 15 mins before being told it would take another 30 mins, actingvery dismissive like it was my fault for having such a huuuuge order, not getting food or subs I paid for, are all things that will make me not go back another time. But what will make me never go back, AND tell everyone I can to never go there, is the fact that zero employees were wearing masks (despite a box of them clearly visible behind the counter ), no hair net on the chefs shoulder length hair, visibly dirty knives displayed on a rack in the kitchen looking like they were ready for use, and not a bottle of hand sanitizer in sight. Sushi Siam, kofusion, sushi ichiban, are all much better options imo. read more

The food was 5/5 but the service was 1/5. There was only one server in the dining area and she was having to hostess, answer phones/place orders, wait tables, and bus tables. It seems that they don't have a system to allow a server to know what food has yet to be received so we were left with a long wait for something that the chefs had forgotten. This was also the case for several tables around us. read more

Would rate it 0 if I could. I came to visit from out of town to celebrate a friends birthday and we spent 4 hours at this restaurant. We stood there for 15 minutes waiting to even be greeted. No one took our order for about an hour after we were seated. They kept bringing out sushi and we asked what kind it was and they had no idea.. turns out we were eating the other tables food while they were waiting even LONGER than we were and we did not get the food we ordered. One of the girls from the other tables had to go behind the bar to get us water. We confronted the owner, Zen, and he did not provide us with any discount after all of the issues. He was refusing the mistakes that they made while 2 tables of 7-8 people were telling him they messed up and it was unfair. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

Been here a couple of times, no idea why I came back. The sushi orders are always wrong, the management has absolutely no idea what is going on, and I always end up waiting an absurd amount of time to get my food. When we complained about the food and wait time to the manager, he told us we "didn't have to come back if we didn't want to." I highly recommend not eating here, it is absolutely once of the worst-run restaurants I've ever been to. read more

So to start off, waited 30 minutes to get seated which was okay but then when we sat down we waited 5ever to get actually waited on and then even more 5ever to get sushi I mean like so long it could've been 6ever. THEN on top of these shenanigans they get our order wrong and try to make us pay for the left over sush we didn't even order oml. After this we literallyyyyy had to continuously get up looking for a waiter to get the check. This was a 4 hour eating experience from hell :)) Also this might sound like a joke but it's not and I have literally gotten better service at McDonald's read more

If we could give negative stars we would!! This was the worst dining experience of our lives! We have been here many, many times before and have always bragged about how amazing their all you can eat sushi is. However, today we took a party of 6 (3 adults & 3 kids:12,11, and 9) first off they told us we can only order once because of covid19 they wouldn't place more than one all you can eat sushi order (anything left over they charge you $1/pc) we all had all you can eat we placed our order on three different sheets as we had three seperate tickets. Next they took forever to get our drinks, ice water the ice was completely melted and warm, then they began to bring our appetizers out and they brought us the wrong food, and then preceded to argue that we had ordered it. We asked to see our tickets and they just took the unordered food away. During this time the waitress spilled sushi sauce off of someone's dirty sushi plate on my daughter as she came by. Then we waited for our sushi to come out. They continued to bring out food that was not ours. At one point they brought 2 plates of sashimi that were not ours none of us had ordered them. They argued we did and put the on our table. One touched it to see what it was and it was warm and not anything we had ordered. When we told them again they picked them up off our table and gave them to the table next to us. #CoronaVirus. When we demanded to see our tickets they brought 2 tickets and neither of them were ours! They then brought our tickets once they found them and finally we got our right food. We love sushi and we have loved going to this restaurant but this time the sushi was DISGUSTING! The avocados were rock hard and in every sushi roll, we started just picking them out, but eventually we were irritated and we mentioned to the server that it was horrible. That we were hungry but did not want to eat the food they presented us with as it was inedible and going to make us sick. The man continued to tell us our problem was we odered too much. (We normally eat 2 boats of sushi plus appetizers!) So this was not too much. Next when we mentioned we were ready for checks to leave we will not be coming back they added 18% gratuity to each check. Almost $20+ in tips. They also charged adult prices for 2 out of 3 of the children. We collectively paid $230+ NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

The service is super slow. So slow that almost like they want to make you feel full before the food come out. You need to finish all the appitizer before the fish come out. The food is just okay not that fresh. read more

Good menu and decent quality for the AYCE option. The quality of their Nigiri sushi is not quite consistent as I've had different experiences at various visits. The baby octopus salad and Fire Dragon Roll are great! Service is very slow especially when ordering a second time around, so I recommend ordering everything up front. read more

My friends and I went here last night, and I feel like Moki sushi deserves more than the current 3.5 stars it has. The sushi and quality of fish was actually much better than I expected, and the nigiri had nice size pieces of fish. We got crab rangoon, gyoza, shumai, edamame for appetizers, and all were good (gyoza probably my least favorite). The reason they got a 4 star is because the service is slow and awkward. Maybe this is because they were new, but perhaps the staff could use more training. I also would have preferred they slowly brought out appetizers as they were ready vs brining all 4 at once, but this was probably just because were starving. Overall a pretty solid place for Champaign! - you just can't compare it to some of the AYCE in Chicago. read more

New and only AYCE sushi place in town (as far as I know). We were skeptical at first, but were pleasantly surprised. This is obviously no jiro level sushi, but for all you can eat at the price point, the food quality is very good. Not many AYCE sushi places even in New York can match. The soft shell crab, fried oyster, and hamachi kama were definitely standout items. Also the common nigiri sushi were very fresh. However, the a la cart uni were of questionable qualtiy for 3.50 each. All in all, very good sushi place, comparable sushi quality to the local favorite sakanya, but much better value! read more

I would give 0 star if I could, and I seldom write reviews. I went there with my friends in a group of 4. Then a group of 7 followed by a group of 2 came in. The manager just sit both of the groups first. When I asked if they have a reservation, he told me no and refused to give me further explanation why they would be served first. "Because we only have 7 person and 2 person table". ABSURD! The Sushi is dry and imcompact, it is just not worth it. Their arrogant manner really pissed me off. read more

I was excited to see a new sushi restaurant in Champaign and even more excited to learn it was "ALL YOU CAN EAT". The restaurant is located in the same shopping plaza as Harvest Market, ACE, and Champaign Surplus -- a few intersections south of Kirby on Neil St. The interior is very modern and spacious. They give you a menu with lots of pictures of their signature rolls and another menu with the "AYCE". You can eat all you want for $18.99 (lunch price). Not sure if you can order nigiri or appetizers individually, because there was no price for it. But the signature rolls were all $14.99 so I figured if I ordered an appetizer (again, no prices for a la carte), I would already meet the $18.99 price. I checked off a couple of nigiri, a spicy salmon roll and miso soup. The miso soup came out right away. It seemed to be just broth -- there was nothing in it -- no tofu, no seaweed, nothing. It tasted fine, but it would've been good if there was something else in it -- not sure if it was an anomaly that I happened to receive just broth. Then the sushi came out. The pieces were generous in size. I had to ask for wasabi and ginger because the plate didn't have the usual accompaniments. I also had to ask for a small bowl for my soy sauce, because my table didn't have one placed on it. The sushi tasted fine -- I ordered salmon, white tuna, eel and shrimp. The rice was plain -- not seasoned very well and it came apart very easily. The spicy salmon roll was not spicy..... it was crunchy which was a little off-putting but then I realized it was tempura flakes mixed in (I hope). It was ok, but I don't think I would order it again. After finishing the plate of sushi, I ordered a bit more just to get my money's worth -- although, I figured I should just stick with the cooked items. I ordered steamed gyoza and shrimp tempura. Neither were very good. I wish restaurants in Champaign did gyoza in the traditional way -- pan fried on the bottom and finished off by steaming. Ozu Ramen does it this way and I love it! The steamed gyoza was slimy and mushy. The shrimp tempura seemed identical -- pre-packaged frozen and just tossed in the deep fryer. The batter was heavy and overcooked. I wound up finishing everything because I didn't want to be charged extra for not finishing. That's the kicker, if you waste food (yet, you are still paying for AYCE), they charge you extra. Not sure if it's a wise thing to do, but I can see it does cut back on waste...... but it also says that even if you don't like our food, we will charge you extra for not eating it. Or perhaps, "our food is so good, you will gladly finish everything". I wish. read more

Food is very reasonably priced and everything was fresh. $4 for a tuna roll is just stupid-cheap, and it was better than $8 tuna rolls I've had in town. We ordered a mix of fish and vegetarian rolls, and then also a teriyaki tofu dinner and chicken skewers. Everything was great. We've been lamenting the lack of good, not-bank-breakingly-expensive sushi in town since we moved here a few years ago, but this place is our new go-to. I should add that due to the pandemic we ordered takeout, so we don't know what the dine-in experience is like. read more

This place was terrible. The service was terrible. The "server" did not explain the process of "all you can eat" he tried to charge us for two rounds claiming "all you can eat is not sharable" when he suggested to only submit one round to share. After having the terrible sushi he then tried to charge two people for gratuity added on to groups of 5 or more which is stated in their menu. I will eat this place again. read more

I seldom give one star but this time I need to share my review. I used to go to this place very often. Then the quality started to drop 6 months ago. Last time, I went there for dinner but the waiting time for our order seemed forever. Fine. Recently, I wanted to give a try for lunch. I didn't wait too long but I didn't get a positive reply after I told the waiter the roll was not fresh. I decided to be charged for one roll of the sushi. The roll was not fresh and I threw up after leaving there. I won't recommend that place anymore. read more

Service slow, edamame appetizer, 5 piece sushi roll, regular sashimi, none fresh. Sashimi was served in a wooden boat? Very poor presentation. They added 18% gratuity??? It was just me and my wife. I won't be going back. read more

We were waiting for this place to open since it is convenient to where we live and shop for groceries. We did the all you can eat on a Sunday afternoon. All the rolls we ordered (7 of them) were well done and delicious. The atmosphere is modern and the music is perfect. Overall we had a great meal and will be back. read more

Design of the restaurant is very nice and modern. Very clean and welcoming. I could tell that the staff was surprised to see me come in since I am of a darker complexion, but they were all very nice and friendly. They have a sizable amount of options to choose from on their menu and for the price the quality is definitely satisfactory. In addition, they have a $25 all you can eat deal that is quite fair to the customer (I had the avocado, salmon, and tuna rolls but it wasn't the all you can eat deal). I honestly would give this place a 10/10 but I haven't gone enough times yet to be certain. Definitely a nice establishment though. read more

TLDR: Decent food, worst service I've had in a long time. Don't come here if you're looking for a good experience. For the record, I grew up going to hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurants where service was not the emphasis but the food was good. There's a different culture sometimes around what is considered standard of service. Sometimes what comes off as abrupt or uncaring can just be because people are busy or trying to be efficient. This was NOT the case at Moki Sushi. We arrived 6:30 on a Saturday night with out of town friends. This is a place where you mark on a slip of paper what you want for AYCE. We had been 4 or 5 times before. Usually the service was on the slow side and occasionally we had missed items with our orders, but it was never a big problem like this time so I guess we got lucky the times before. It was fairly busy maybe 70% capacity. We put in our first order, the food came out very slowly and a bunch of the food we ordered never showed up. I'll talk overall about food here. The appetizers were some good some bad mainly due to temperature it came out of the kitchen at. The hot fried food such as karage and calamari were pretty good. Some of the ones that came out cold like fried tofu and shrimp tempura were not great. The sake roll was in our opinion the best one, some of the other ones had too much filler or were constructed poorly. The nigiri we ordered was hit and miss the salmon was pretty good, the tuna and others were passable, The egg and a few others were pretty bad. Overall the food is decent, and would be OK if you could put in many orders in a reasonable manner to figure out what you liked and didn't like. Our waiter was seen only in streaks as she was trying to manage too many tables so she never checked up on us. I have worked in the food service industry before so it was apparent to me she was trying her best. No matter, we waited patiently for an hour, then we figured we weren't ever getting our missing food so we put in our second order sheet repeating some of the things missing in our first order as our waitress was running by with an armful of dishes which was the only time we could flag her down. Fast forward an hour later at the 2 hour mark, we also had received 70% of the food we ordered from the second order. So we decided to just order dessert on a third order sheet and go. We asked for the bill when we received our dessert, thankfully both arrived fairly quickly. One of us had to go the bathroom so we waited and chatted after the bill was paid. You might be thinking that didn't seem so bad. Well you ain't seen nothing yet. Our order then shows up with a couple special sushi rolls at our table. And she was like here you go! And we said uhhhh we had dessert and paid already and we're about to leave. She showed us that we had ordered it on a previous order slip. We tried to explain that we didn't receive a bunch of the food from all our orders so it's fine we don't want it. She left with the rolls and manager came back (the guy with the glasses by the entrance as others have mentioned in reviews) with the rolls. This whole conversation below the manager had an incredibly rude and curt tone when talking as if we had made a mistake and owed him something. The manager said "well you ordered it ,so you have to eat". We tried to explain that a bunch of our food did not come out from each order so we just assumed we never getting it and continued ordering and we don't need the food anymore especially not after over 90 minutes since we put in the order and that we had eaten dessert, paid for the bill and were about to leave. We asked why didn't this sushi come with the rest of our sushi. He replied "food takes time to make, you can't expect everything to come out like out". Then he said "you should've checked with your server if you didn't get all your food". I did not want to throw our server under the bus as she was trying her best to manage wayyy too many tables running around all night non-stop. So I avoided the "well we never had a chance to talk to our server" type conversation. The manager continued to repeat "well you ordered it, you have to eat it" and showed us the order slip from hours ago. Just wanting this to be over we took the food, we ate it quickly (before more random food from hours ago had the possibility of showing up) and we left. Any reasonable manager should've at least apologized for our wait not tried to make the argument about OUR responsibility to check up with our server (aren't servers supposed to check in with us?). That was our experience, at the end of it all, it was not the fun eating out experience I wanted to provide for my out of town friends. From other reviews here, it seems we are not the only ones to be treated this way so go at your own risk. read more

The food is good but the overall score has be overwhelmed by quality of service that very disappointed me.

This place took so long to get our order to our table. All the fried foods were all served first even though the sushi we ordered from the first bill was nowhere to bee seen for the first hour. Staff is slow and service is lackluster. I would not reccomend this place for groups larger than 2. read more

Pros: decent fish Cons: appallingly slow, staff poorly trained and overloaded, sushi skills highly variable, some dishes similar to tv dinners Longer version: went with the "all you can eat" option, since the cost is about the same as two signature dolls. Started with appetizers, miso, some nigiri, and some rolls. Arrived over space of perhaps 75 minutes, by which time we had ordered more. Appetizers were first: "tempura" was cold, greasy, and more like breading. Teriyaki shrimp looked like frozen shrimp with some teriyaki sauce (that's it, really!). Takoyaki were underdone. Miso came second, and only after I stopped a waitress and mentioned that people who had arrived after we had ordered were sitting with empty bowls while we were wondering about our order. Miso was ok. Nigiri arrived and vanished quickly. Some were nice, others were made by a toddler. Fish was good, though. Rolls were last, really slow.. Tasty, and mostly well done, but some falling apart. Had to keep ordering and waiting for over three hours. Complained to manager, who told me we hadn't been there so long. Go figure, here I thought my watch-reading skills from elementary school were still honed! Some friends came by about an hour or hour and a half in and asked us what we thought.. After hearing our experience at that point, they walked out. Bottom line: if you can eat a lot of sushi and have a free half-day, go bring an ebook and spend it there. If you want good sushi in a reaonable amount of time, there are many good options minutes away (so you could drive there, eat, and get back before getting any food at Moki). read more

Heads up- went for sake and sushi.... they don't have a liquor license ... no sake.
