THE OTHER ONE: In front of Canadian Tire in the parking lot of Festival Marketplace, known by many of the locals as "the new mall" (circa 1990; opposed to "the old mall" which is across the street and was there first. It is about to open a Target as its biggest, flagship retail store, replacing a particularly scuzzy Zellers). And here come the stars: 1. Original food truck. From childhood. In fact, from my Dad's childhood. Since 1953. Still going strong. Booyah! 2. Fresh cut. Need I say more? 3. They come in a paper bag. Old school style. A la ghetto grocery bag: http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ma9gp0PKPk1qmildzo1_400.jpg 4. Crispy on the outside, soft and/or soggy on the inside. Perfection! 5. Super salty. LOVE IT! Plus either plain vinegar (for losers) or malt vinegar (for awesome people). They pride themselves as "not needing ketchup" so wait until you're out of their line of vision before you Heinz it up. 6. ****** Extra points! ******* TWO locations. 7. ******* Extra points! ******* Open SEVEN days a week. 8. ******** Extra points! ******** No air conditioning in the trucks! WOW! Clearly a labour of love! And we appreciate it! Do not go here if you are on a diet.

(They even have a couple of portable giant Connect 4 games.) And, of course, there's beer. We've stopped in a couple of times and enjoyed the garden level and sometimes communal picnic tables. Many are partially shaded by trees. This last trip we climbed the stairs and sat at more conventional tables and chairs that also had umbrellas and seemed less favoured by families with small children. Service is casual but quick, we were welcomed and sent upstairs with menus to find our own table. The greeter/server had a tray full of drinks but stopped to mid-service for us. She followed shortly afterwards and took our drink orders and after returning with our beverages she took our meal orders. Both my Whistle Dog and my spouse's Burger were well prepared and we found the large fries we ordered were more than we needed. I was surprised and delighted by the smoke grill flavour of my Whistle Dog. There are condiments on the table including both Malt and White Vinegars. Yes, the potatoes for the fries were fresh cut. We'll continue to frequent the Bru Garden when visiting Stratford. It's set back a bit from the bustle of Ontario St and Downie St but is steps away from the Avon Theatre.

Almost all of the tables were taken and it was much more spacious than we realized. It was all outside and had a very cozy feel. It was shaded by trees and the ground was soft with wood shavings. The Bru Garden had a limited menu but from what we could see the food looked very appetizing. The drinks were easy to order and came in sturdy plastic ware. The food was being made in a permanently placed food truck. It appeared the garden was built around the food truck. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is also a child friendly atmosphere. We would definitely stop in for another drink and try something off of the food menu.
