After visiting the Waterloo Region Museum, it was around 2 pm and I needed to get some lunch. With the recent heatwave affecting Ontario, I have been eating fairly light and surprisingly healthy. I decided to check out uptown Waterloo. I didn't know much about it and decided to drive around. I saw Copper Branch and knew that I needed to go there. I saw the flashing neon open sign, found a parking lot close by, and pulled into it. The closest Copper Branch to my home is in Brooklin. I was thrilled to find that there is one in Waterloo. I was quickly greeted by a friendly female at the counter. I knew what I wanted to order. I got the portabello burger (I have had it before and have a weakness for all things portabello) and nachos (my good friend let me snack on a few a while back, but I wanted to experience the whole enchilada... or should it be nacholada?). I then needed a drink. I normally get one of the natural colas, but I didn't feel like a sugar rush. I asked the woman if she knew which beverage had the least amount of sugar. I knew that San Pellegrino would be fine, but I didn't feel like fizzy water. She recommended the coconut beverage. As much as I love all things coconut, I had a feeling that it had sugar in it. Sure enough, it had 19 grams! Luckily, her colleague came to the rescue and suggested getting the Steaz iced peach mango green tea. It is sweetened with stevia. Yay! At any Copper Branch, you order, pay, and find a table. Your food comes to you. My meal, including tip, came up to $30. It does get a bit pricey for decent vegan food. I don't mind it. Sure enough, the woman who helped me with my sugar-free drink came with my nachos and portabello mushroom burger. The burger was fabulous. The portabello was meaty and grilled to perfection. I loved the garlicky mayo. I am not a huge fan of zucchini, but grill them as slices in a burger and I'm fine. This burger was scrumptious. The nachos were amazing. I loved the cheeze, black beans, and cubed veggies. The dairy-free sour cream and guacamole were amazing with the nachos chips. I ate everything up. The place has a relaxed setting. It was nice to unwind and enjoy my food. The washrooms are clean. Essentially, they are gender-neutral. I am so happy that Copper Branch is close by the hotel. I am definitely coming back when I crave decent plant-based food. (245) read more

The food is expensive & mediocre. My vegan chicken tacos had barely any pieces of chicken. They were tiny cubes hidden under all this sauce and majority of it was coleslaw. My smoked tempeh sandwich had none of the provolone cheese it was supposed to have. They forgot my cinnamon bun and the pumpkin spiced latte was bland with no sugar. I was really looking forward to dining at Copper Branch for the first time. As I have a lot of dietary restrictions I emailed Head Office before hand to get a list of items that could be modified or that I could order. When I went to the restaurant the cashier and staff seemed very helpful. I had brought my entire family and parents in law here as well. I had ordered the portobello burger and asked for the aioli sauce on the side so my husband could have it with his order. As we were consuming all of our food I realized they did not remove the aioli sauce. I I thought it was the melted cheeze but my husband tasted it and confirmed it was the same aioli sauce with his fries. I had a severe reaction and had to take allergy medicine which I obviously wanted to avoid since I am 7 months pregnant. The food tasted good however because of such a small error it was concerning how the lack of details was missed especially for a restaurant like this. Very good service, open for dining in during COVID 19, the sandwiches we tried were very good. Shiitake sandwich (5/5) was really good, same as Greek unity wrap (5/5). We didn't like flatbread (2/5) much, the vegan cheese is properly the worst I had (I eat a lot of vegan food), the bread base wasn't good either (I make my own fresh sourdough flatbread at home) tasted a bit stale and texture was off too. Just had the general copper bowl with noodles as the base, which was certainly delicious but not worth $15 + tax. There was purple sauerkraut, broccoli, avocado, and General Tao "chicken" on a bed of zero-calorie noodles. My friend had the Aztec bowl, which had about 50% more toppings than my bowl and would be just as tasty and more worth it. Atmosphere was modern yet casual, and our food was brought out very promptly after we ordered at the front desk. If you're looking for a vegan meal, this place definitely has a lot of options. We didn't get the poutine, but it looked great and if I return, would try their fries and burger. read more

This is a healthy vegan restaurant with plant based, non-gmo and organic dishes for all food lovers. It had a hip and modern atmosphere and friendly staff. I'm not a vegan but I do go vegan once per week for health and environmental reasons and this restaurant has opened my eyes to what vegan dishes can be. A lot of the dishes will meet your daily requirements in protein and carbs. I tried the Aztec bowl and my friend got the mediterranio bowl. The bowls come with tons of vegetables, and your choice of complex carbohydrates and proteins. I chose quinoa and tempeh, while my friend chose quinoa and shiitake teriyaki. The tempeh was nutty and rich, while the shiitakes were earthy and umami. Copper Branch is a plant-based eatery in Waterloo right on King. The menu has many many options, so there is really something for everyone. I wasn't sure what I wanted, so I asked the man taking my order for recommendations and he was very helpful. He allowed me to try the mushroom they use in one of their bowls and it was amazing! I ended up getting the general something bowl which was delicious. I will say though, the prices are rather inflated. I know vegan food can be expensive, but this might deter me from coming often. The food itself was good, the spelt wrap fell apart easily, so I wouldn't recommend it. The chicken wings are also interesting but definitely need the dipping sauce. read more

If you're looking for vegan or vegetarian options, or just something a bit healthier then this is your place. They have a good variety of options and lots of flavour. The portions are large so the prices are reasonable. I could only eat half of my coconut curry bowl. The sweet potatoes poutine is really yummy - and you don't need the large believe me! I was quite disappointed with my meal at Copper Branch. I brought my vegetarian friend here so that she could have more options to choose from besides her usual veggie burger. They have a variety of different vegan and gluten free options but the quality did not meet their price point. I ordered the Aristotle bowl ($9.75+tax), my boyfriend ordered the galaxy portebello burger ($9.75) and my vegetarian friend ordered the spicy buffalo wings ($8.75 for 3 pieces). My bowl came with two spoons of brown rice, a handful of mixed veggies, a few pieces of tofu and two soggy slices of sweet potato. The sauce that accompanied the bowl was supposed to be a basil balsamic vinaigrette but it tasted like a heavy ranch sauce that was overwhelmingly sour. The galaxy burger was not bad but pretty small and it would have been nice if it came with a side. My vegetarian friend only ate two of her three tiny buffalo wings so I don't think she liked it very much. Overall, I think that Copper Branch is great for supporting veganism and plant-based eating but it is unfair to overcharge for such small portions! read more

I've been twice for the hot chocolate. So creamy. Just a heads up it is also a thicker hot chocolate. I was very disappointed to find no baby change table after I had talked to management a month prior. They have high chairs. So only somewhat baby/toddler friendly. read more

Great experience! Very friendly and quick service! My significant other and I shared the nachos which were fantastic as well as the wings and the poutine. The nachos were our favourite item and I would highly recommend them! This place is definitely suitable for non-vegans as well. read more
