I'll not use the comedy night to rate the lounge because I think events and venues are different things. I don't like yellow fizzy beers so avoid places that don't do real ales. The lounge doesn't do real ales but I was please to see a good selection of quality drinks including bottled ales and other options. They have a good coffee machine and seemed more than happy to do coffee's early evening. There was a good atmosphere and a mixed group of relaxed looking punters. Friendly bar staff. Really quaint and some lovely features and touches (real fire, piano,seperate bar and lounge) Think the staff said they do 25 draught beers and real ale and cider, one was erdinger a german wheat beer..unusual. Amazing prices too on beer and food cheaper than weatherspoons. A place for couples or friends but they dont allow children (which is fine with me as its a cozy small place) If you havent tried it do give it a go, I will be back for sure in fact going tomorrow

Be prepared for lots of jumping about and dancing. Bar prices are standard for Warrington but i'd recommend avoiding drinking wine in here, it's not really the place for it, the choice is limited and from experience tastes pretty vile. I stick to spirits and mixers or bottles usually. It is £2-£3 for entry which in my opinion is steep but since you have to pay for entry to most pubs in Warrington town centre now a days you may aswell pay for one of the better ones, you receive a stamp on your hand allowing you to leave and re-enter as you wish. There is a decent sized courtyard with benches outside making it a popular choice in the summer and giving smokers somewhere decent to sit outside. The pub typically shuts around 3am on a Fri and Sat night.

The decor inside is typical Botanist style, it does look good and the staff are pretty friendly (although some of them don't seem to be wearing a uniform which meant I didn't even realise someone worked there when I was waiting for a staff member!) It can get pretty busy at peak times, especially in the run up to Christmas, I did originally try to visit on a Sunday afternoon and this place was full, I do recommend making a booking if you can, they do require a credit/debit card for this but they only charge you if you fail to attend, which is a flat £5 (pretty fair, especially considering they can only run at limited capacity to follow government legislation). I was offered a free bottle of prosecco as part of their loyalty scheme which can be redeemed two weeks before (or after) one's birthday, I feel this is a nice gesture, I don't really like prosecco so it's a shame it couldn't be swapped for anything else other than a soft drink, especially considering most of their cocktails are much cheaper anyway - that is an issue with Head Office and it's still a nice gesture to offer something for free. I ordered the gluten-free chorizo and chicken kebab, it seems the recipe has been changed slightly, there seemed to be more garlic butter actually on the chicken rather than pouring it over (which has been replaced by a paprika oil to give it a slight kick), it gave it that extra flavour and tasted really good, the chicken was cooked and seasoned perfectly, the chorizo was just OK, and the fries on the bottom were good. My friend, who ordered the fish and chips was also pleased with her dish, she mentioned: "It was almost perfect, however, the curry sauce was a little watery." I also like how they now have a digital bill, not only is this better for the environment but it means I can have a receipt emailed to me and also fill in feedback on the tablet which they serve it on. 4* - The food was really good, and this is one of my favourite locations in The Botanist chain and I will be returning. A couple of flaws mentioned but all in all a pretty good place to grab some food.

The upstairs terracing was particularly impressive while the sun was shining! There was a choice of eight different guest ales on and they are running this, as current practice in a number of pubs, with the 3-for-1 offer. This is 3 third-of-a-pint glasses of different beers for the price of a pint - not really a bargain, but it does enable one to taste more beers without passing out. My wife and I had our normal two pints each, but tasted 12 different beers. This, of course, entailed going to the Friar Penketh to taste the extras! The service was good and the other customers enjoyable company.

It's easy to find, as St Elphin's 280ft spire - the third highest of any parish church in England - provides a perfect landmark. The pub is part of an attractive clutch of old buildings next to the church, and is Grade II Listed, although unfortunately there's a large Sainsbury's plonked opposite. Inside, it feels more like a country pub than a town pub: lots of tucked away seating areas (ideal for family or social groups) give it a cosy feel, with some old beams on the ceiling providing the right atmosphere. Real ale fans are well catered for with two regulars and three guest ales, although one of the latter was off on our visit. The food menu is extensive and features traditional pub grub, with main meals, baguettes, sandwiches and baked potatoes. There's a good vegetarian selection, too, and staff were friendly and helpful. The 10 minute walk to the pub from Warrington Town Centre passes several other old pubs, also serving real ale, on Buttermarket Street and Church Street, which would make for a perfect real ale pub crawl, ending at the Ring O'Bells. There's a bus stop a few yards away to get you back to the bus station, if needed!

Last night, we stopped there for a few drinks (only a half for me as the driver!) and were absolutely stunned. The selection of real ales is impressive and very well-kept and served. The landlord is extremely welcoming, pleasant and knowledgeable, but the pub itself.. Well, to say it is amazing is to do the landlord an injustice. As can be seen by the photos, the pub has an incredible amount of memorabilia; seemingly, most from the war years (no, I won't specify which wars!) but also an eclectic collection of anything that interests anybody. There are musical instruments throughout the rooms, a plethora of cameras of all eras, uniforms from forces, services and old schoolsI could go on all day. We all decided that it would take a full day just to sample the excellent drinks and to look around, then were told that they serve good food during the day as well. If this pub was closer to civilisation, it would be crowded out at all times.
