Growing up in Miami, I am deeply critical of any Cuban cuisine I get north of Orlando; but when I say the food here is absolutely top notch! It's a quaint environment with relaxing ambiance and the service is fantastic. I ordered the Vaca Frita (amazing marinated fried beef). The food came out so fast I was a bit nervous but it's was absolutely delicious! It melts in your mouth and is fork tender. The rice and beans were perfectly seasoned as well. I had to get a Cafe con Leche and it did not disappoint. Portion size is great! I can tell this is a very family friendly restaurant as they had several large parties while I dined there. Came here while out with a friend. I absolutely love Cuban food so I was excited to try this spot and it did not disappoint. I ordered a passion fruit mojito which was super tasty. I let the waiter know that I didn't want it too sweet and he understood the assignment. For my meal I got the plantain crusted fish with rice, beans and fried plantains. I wanted to try the creole sauce so I had the waiter add it. It was great. The portion was huge and I had some to take home. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes. read more

High Expectations! My partner and I are both Cubans and we are forever looking for real good cuban food ever sense we moved here from south FL a little over two years ago.. So we gave this place a try based on the reviews we read online. Now, no disrespect to the reviewers, we did not get the great reviews talking about how AMAzing the food was. I had the masitas de puerco with white rice, black beans and maduros, my partner had the bistec a la Milanesa with white rice, black beans and maduros. The white rice was insipid and gooey, black beans lacked flavor and the maduros were the frozen kind. The bistec a la milanesa was uninspired. We also had the ham croquetas, they were dull. The empanadas were actually my favorite item. So to sum it up, very underwhelmed with the food experience. The restaurant was nice, inside was clean, from what I saw as it was a pickup order, not a single customer in the restaurant. Based on the food we will not be back. read more

My partner & I are both Cubans and we had been craving some authentic Cuban food. After looking online we came across this restaurant and we decided to give it a chance based on the reviews we saw online. I ordered the Milanesa Steak that comes with white rice, black beans & two maduros. My partner ordered the masitas de puerco that came with the same sides. My milanesa steak had no seasoning whatsoever, the ham & cheese had more flavor than the steak, the black beans had no seasoning either & the rice was mushy. The croquetas de jamón weren't bad however they lacked seasoning too. The empanadas were fried accordingly at least, the beef one tasted better than the chicken ones but for the most part they weren't bad at all. I ordered an extra side of black beans and white rice, as pictured the rice portion given was very little. If I would've known that I wouldn't have ordered extra sides. For their prices overall I just admit this restaurant didn't impress us with their food at all, needless to say we won't be returning again. read more

Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? A group of us dined here for lunch at Nesbit Ferry Crossing a few weeks ago based on recommendations from online reviews and a friend. There were only a few tables occupied and one server. Even with just a few customers, service was slow. I ordered the salad with chicken which was just OK. However, the dressing was interesting and good. Some of my friends were underwhelmed with their lunch choices as well. Maybe dinner is a better time to enjoy the Cuban cuisine because Mojitos does have plenty of good reviews. read more

The food here was decent. I believe I tried one of the pork dishes. All entrees come with white rice, black beans, and fried plantains. The pork was succulent, not at all the dried plate I imagined I would be receiving. You can choose a chicken, pork, beef, or seafood entree. The prices averaged about $11 ish a plate. There were definitely some dishes under $10 with some nearing $20. The restaurant was dimly lighted with festive decor. This gem is tucked away in a small shopping center in Alpharetta/johns creek area and I personally find it to be the best in quality of food for Cuban food in this area. Service is always speedy and on par. I've tried the chicken bistec here and it's marinated in mojo sauce, sautéed onions and lemon. It's absolutely divine and gives great flavor to the white rice and black beans. I always ask for tostoned instead of plantains and absolutely love their flattened texture. This is such a consistent, greatly priced spot and a local favorite of mine. I love it so much my Boyfriend ordered it and brings it to my work for me every valentines!! Hrm... what to drink at a place called Mojito Cafe. Oooo-kay, you win. I had a Mojito... a pineapple-Mojito at that. It may have been a smidge sweet for my taste, but it was still very tasty nevertheless. Looking over the menu, my wife and I were like, "Oooh, empanadas! Oooh, croquettes! Oooh, papa rellena!" Damn, so many good appetizers. Oh, wait - freakin' awesome! They have an appetizer sampler platter so we can try everything! Let's do that instead of entrees. Soon enough, a massive sampler platter, complete with condiments (chimichurri, garlic oil, jalapeno relish, and some kind of sauce for our empanadas) was placed before us. Challenge accepted. Look at all of these starchy foods! We've got a stuffed potato (papa rellena), fried casava root (Yuca Frita), and plantain chips. Oh, and fried goodies - one beef and one chicken empanada, two croquettes, and fried chicken bites. We'll also throw in some roasted pork with ground corn for good measure. The truth is, everything tasted ok, but none of it was memorable. I doubt I'll be craving anything from that platter anytime soon. The chicken bites were eerily similar to Chik-Fil-A (but not quite as good), like a copycat recipe that they didn't have down pat. The ground beef on top of the papa rellena reminded me of Taco Bell taco meat (which isn't necessarily a good or bad thing). The ham and cheese croquettes delivered as advertised - hammy. The roasted pork was bland. The empanadas were ordinary. Maybe their entrees are better, I don't know. Ultimately, if I'm in the mood for Cuban/Caribbean food, Armando's Caribe in Duluth is still my go-to spot. read more

Based on take-out alone, this is perhaps the best bang for your buck Cuban food in that suburban nexus of Johns Creek, Roswell and Alpharetta. Located in a forgettable suburban shopping center at the corner of Old Alabama Road and Nesbit Ferry Road, Mojito Cafe is notable in that it's survived for what I believe is several years while other shopping centers nearby have become veritable ghost towns of failed suburban expansionism. You'll find it diagonally across the parking lot from that hall of nicotine, Derby's Sports Grill. The first night I went to Mojito's for dinner, I ordered the roasted pork, and if I remember correctly, a beef dish. As I was walking out with the food (it was ready in about 10-15 minutes), I slipped, fell, and began 2 months worth of sprained ankle rehabilitation. What I do remember of that meal is a) the owner replaced the food that I dropped / ruined when I fell and b) the pork and other entree were EXCELLENT. A few weeks after I sprained my ankle trying to bring home the awesome food from this place, my wife and I picked up another order. Again, it was ready in about 10-15 minutes. This time, though, we screwed up the order and got the wrong pork dish. My wife wanted the roast pork, but I inadvertently ordered the Masas de Cerdo (fried pork chunks) instead. The owner, AGAIN, came through for us. He let us keep the fried pork chunks (no charge) and charged us for the roast pork and the Palomilla steak. Once again -- the food was awesome. The pork chunks were a little tough, but they were moist inside. The steak was to die for. It had a tangy taste to it that really went well with the seasoned rice that comes with each dish. Black beans come with the entrees -- my wife swears by it, though I won't eat the stuff. On our third take-out order, we picked up pork tamales, roast pork, and the Mojito's platter of pork, chicken and steak. The tamales are weird -- it's just a corn tamale with a huge side of the roast pork, about which you will get no complaints from me. The roast pork by itself was, as usual, awesome, as was the steak. The chicken was a little crispy (fried chunks?), but it was, like the pork chunks, relatively moist inside. I wouldn't order it alone, but with the combo, it was good. Dinner entrees at Mojito Cafe are about $10, running up to $17 for things like the combo. The portions are huge at $10 -- two meals unless you're a pig (cough...me...cough). Definitely a great value for the quality and flavor of the food you're getting. The tamales were only $7 -- and they were almost a meal on their own. Our final take-out experience was for lunch -- I was craving a Cuban sandwich, and I decided to give Mojito's a shot. Keep in mind that I've enjoyed the Cuban sandwich awesomeness of Kool Korners and Little Havana Sandwich Shop (before it was burned down). Mojito's Cuban sandwich combo come with either french fries or black beans and rice. You can't just get rice, but at $7, you really shouldn't be picky. The sandwich? It was great, but I wouldn't say that it trumps Kool Korners' sandwiches. Really, though -- can ANYONE trump their sandwiches? Go to Birmingham if you want to know why not. All this exposure has been take-out -- so I can't comment on the dining room experience. On weeknights, the dining room has never been very full -- nor has the bar. I've seen native Cubans gathering for dinner, though, and to me, that's a good sign. The one time I picked up for lunch, at 11:30am, they already had four (4) tables seated, and those people were obviously regulars. The staff knew them by name and what they wanted. If you're craving Cuban food and want to keep good restaurant from dying away in one of suburban Atlanta's plethora of abandoned shopping centers, PLEASE give Mojito Cafe a try. I chose Mojito's because of the overall good reviews...it did not disappoint. As an appetizer I got the beef empanadas. There were a bit over-cooked and the crust was hard, but still delicious. My friend selected the tamal which delectable. I selected the trio plate with lechon, churraso steak and picadillo as my entrée. It was accompanied by white rice, black beans and maduros. From the get-go it was a great experience. Our waitress (Allie I think) did a great job explaining the various choices, such as types of plantains or the homemade sauces, and made sure we had everything we needed. I love plantains, and it's easy to get them wrong. Mojito did them more than right - they were possibly the best I've had. I had the steak sandwich with a side of black beans and rice, and my wife had the sauteed fish. My sandwich, which had some kind of marinated grilled steak along with carmelized onion and greens and tomato on a toasted cuban roll, was tender and tasty - no teeth-pulling-gristle like other similar sandwiches. While the food was good, I wasn't too happy with two things: 1. The noise level: Since the tables are pretty close to each other, I had a hard time hearing my friend. 2. Service: I checked-in to Yelp and saw that they offer 20% off coupon. When I showed it the waitress, she said they can't accept it. They only accepted printed coupons. I used to spend quite a bit of time in south Florida and grew to love Cuban food. The Mojito Cafe provides a reasonable local Cuban taste but fails to match the true flavors, abundance and affordability of a true Cuban restaurant. The mariquitas (fried plantain chips) were sliced thin and fried to a crisp but they lacked salt and came with a meager serving of Mojito sauce. The Cuban sandwich, the hallmark of any Cuban restaurant, was just OK. The flavors struggled to come through in large part because there was just so little of everything. A whole Miami Cuban is a huge sandwich that satiates the biggest appetite. The Mojito Cafe version is a wimp and would be laughed out of Miami. The ingredients are so meager that it's hard to taste some ingredients like the ham, mustard and the pickle. The Lechon Asado or roast pork is actually pretty good. Perhaps the best thing on the menu is the black beans that come as a side on many dishes or as a standalone soup. They are flavored nicely with lots of garlic and creamy while still holding their form and texture. It's nice to have a Cuban restaurant in Johns Creek/Alpharetta but there are better, even in Atlanta. read more

Overall, a very good experience, with only one mishap. Maybe one and 1/2. First off, plenty of parking in the lot outside, and plenty of tables, as well as friendly service (though having one waitress working the entire room by herself did seem like they were trying to break her. The yucca frita was no greasy and no soggy, with a nice dipping sauce and flavor overall. Fresh. Mom had the Avocado salad with olive oil instead of the regular dressing, due to salt health problems currently of hers, and it was huge (took 1/2 home for tomorrow). She said it tasted great. For entrees, Mom had the cuban sandwich - she took off the ham cause of her salt health issues, but said it was very good. I had the lechon asado (roast pork shoulder) well done and it was lean and crispy and delicious (the 1/2 slip up might just be a touch of too much sour orange on this. Just a wee bit of a touch. But I loved it anyway cause it was very salty, which I love and that balanced out the acidity.). In fact I ordered a lechon sandwich to go for tomorrow. Also had the Masas de Puerco (cubes of fried pork in mojo) well done, and they were less salty and less sour, and delicious. Also very lean. All entrees came with a side of white rice, a side of very good black beans, and a side of delicious maduros (sweet plantains). The only faulty note of the night (and it breaks my heart, as this has been one of my favorite Cuban appetizers since I was a kid growing up in Little Havana in Florida) was the Caldo Gallego (The Spanish white bean soup). It looked right. It seemed to have the right ingredients in it. But first it seemed a tad soupy instead of starchy (as it should be - being half potato and loaded with sausage, as well as the fact it should be cooked for a long time) - and then we noticed after two scoops how sour it was. Like someone put lemon zest or sour orange in it. That makes zero sense and we had to send it back, but they admitted this was not the first complaint and took it off the bill, so thank you. Still, your cook has to fix this. Finally the drinks. The capirinha was very strong (me likee), but the half pitcher of mango mojito I got was weak and way too sweet. My mom had one sip (and she is not only Puerto Rican but lived in Cuba) and gagged, saying it was way too sweet. I drank the whole half pitcher by myself and didn't even get a buzz. Other than that, my kid had the kid's menu fish fingers and fries. Loved the fries. The fingers were a half-hit. But that can't be held against them, cause my kid is a pain with his food. I'm sure they're fine. But if they're not in the frozen stick shape, he won't eat them properly. The conclusion: Until you find better, this place has some really good Cuban food. We love Mojito Cafe! They have, bar-none, the best chimichurri I have ever had. My husband LOVES the ropa vieja - it's flavorful, filling and truly delicious. They also have amazing black beans, and I'm not normally a huge fan of black beans. I almost always get the churrasco, which is a generous piece of decently-thick, juicy, well-cooked meat (always cooked right temp, never dry). That, with the amazing chimichurri, rice, beans and plantains for under $20 is, in my mind, a great price. They also make a great mojito! My girls love the empanadas - they love chicken but I'm partial to beef. If you're looking for really good Cuban food at a good price (a lot cheaper than other options in the area), be sure to check them out! read more

I have finally found my Cuban spot in Georgia. Holy mother this Cuban restaurant is by far the closest to what Miami is all about. My husband who is Cuban and I both agree the food is very close to what we have back home. The empanadas are delicious. Ropa vieja not how I'm used to having it in regards to the presentation but it was very flavorful and citrusy. It's usually not the citrusy but I enjoyed it very much. Rice and beans were in point the maduros of course delicious. My husband oddly had some complaints... not enough maduros and a little pricey. And this is because Cuban food in miami is so cheap and the servings are ridiculously large. Best Cuban food in Georgia people. read more
