My wife and I have gone here a few times and most recently decided to go after Thanksgiving. The atmosphere is beautiful rustic and feels like home. The wine selection is great and we ordered a few glasses that were all delicious. We ordered the baked Brie appetizer that came with apple slices and walnuts and was absolutely terrific especially for fall. I ordered the scallops which were cooked perfectly and were a big serving worth the price. My wife ordered the pork chop cooked perfectly and had delicious fall flavors. I have been here multiple times and enjoyed the atmosphere and food. went back tonight for a celebration of a friend's wedding and will never be back. After already spending a lot of money on food and drinks, friends of ours were treated rudely and innappropriately confronted for bringing their child into the area of the bar where we were celebrating. After. being rudely confronted by the hostess, we offered to move to the dining room and get a table away from the bar. The reply was that we couldn't go to a table because we weren't "dining". This was after two of us had spent hundreds of dollars on steaks and food, besides the drinks we had ordered. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for 3 years and last night I finally did. I have to say it definitely did not disappoint! It was one of the best dining experiences I ever had! Had a great dinner here last week. I wish I could remember the name of our server - a young woman with great energy- she was really magnificent and I was told by the person that seated us that were going to be having one of their best servers so she's obviously someone who is held in high esteem. Food was fresh and fantastic for all 4 of us. Really nice ambiance outside in the back. One negative- I was very surprised with covid that they were using their regular old looking heavy cover, multi page menus and they didn't appear to be cleaned well or sanitized between guests. We shouldn't even be given regular menus. Mine arrived with food particles on the cover and I was kind of grossed out. Shocked me that they weren't following better protocol. Didn't feel clean. They should really have paper menus that are disposable or like most restaurants they have a code on the table you can scan with your phone and it immediately leads to a full menu online. read more

Since moving to the area townsfolk speak highly of this place so we put it on the docket for our next date night. Fast forward to date night... The restaurants approach is very banquet facility like. Seemed like we were pulling up to a wedding reception or retirement party. Not a bad thing it's shows how grand the initial viewing of the property was. Up a short incline you pull up to the valet, yes valet only which is cool for special occasions, not for just too normal parents out for a normaler' date night. Wife looks over and gives me the "Gosh you're so cheap" face. You know the look. The misses was interested so we pressed on. Warm warm welcome from the hostess upon entry, likely an owner. We were lead to the main dining room and placed just a few seats out from an opulent fireplace that climbed to the cathedral ceiling. Lighting dim as fire flickered creating a nice effect off all the glassware. The air filled with conversation and glasses clinking, I knew that there had to be some culinary gems to follow. The Meal: Wedge Salad split to Start Spinach Gnocchi Beet Ravioli special Chocolate Cannoli Cake Creme Brule The Grand Sparkler cocktail Wedge Salad was extremely refreshing with tender bits of Gorgonzola and a very light creme dressing. We opted out of the bacon and as a wedge salad fan this was the best way to go. It needed nothing else. Not even fresh cracked pepper. Best one I've had to date. Beet Ravioli special which was my order. I enjoyed this dish for the bravery/confidence it took to transform the rough wintery root veg into something delicate like a ravioli. This was finished with a beet kissed creme sauce. So creative and planned. The sweetness of the beet integrating with the savory of a light Alfredo type cream sauce, the fragile pasta housing the burly beet puree this was a win. Spinach Gnocchi was unreal. Never have I had a Gnocchi with that addictive attribute as if you opened a bag of Lays Chips. We could have eaten this all night. I was used to Gnocchi being firm you know. Usually sauteed in brown butter with chestnuts or something but this was not firm. This was pillowy, light, fluffy, no remnants of potato, just a great pasta recipe mixed with a softly seasoned spinach puree cooked in properly salted water, topped with a light creme sauce and a top quality Parmesan. Left overs almost caused a tiff at homestead. Chocolate Cannoli Cake would be one of the top chocolate confections I've had. We both enjoyed. And the wife being a fan... a sommelier of custards very much enjoyed her Mohawk House Creme Brule. The Grand Sparkler mimosa type drink was nice and refreshing. Probably should have had this towards the end of the meal as a digestif or with a spicy appetizer as it was pretty sweet. Good sweet not complaining by any means. On the way out we noticed a separate bar room with live music. Looked like patrons were partying and having a very nice time. Good acoustics. We will definitely be returning on a more special occasion. read more

I had the scallops with fingerling potatoes and in a buerre-blanc sauce and it was phenominal! Really a shame that these guys close so early. We were told during the Holiday season on a busy Saturday they 'didn't know when they would close'.. 'prob around 9 as normal hours or maybe as early as 7:30 if we're slow' when we asked how late we might be able to stop by for a few drinks at the bar..what?! I've come here twice and both times the food and ambience of this place does not disappoint. Although this restaurant is $$$, the quality, taste, and portion size of the food is worth the price. Items on the menu may change depending on what is in season. I came here for dinner and ordered the duck with whole wheat linguine. The duck was flavorful and had a nice smokey flavor, almost like a duck sausage. To my delight, the dish came with lots of vegetables (snow peas, onions, red peppers, and yellow cherry tomatoes). Also, the whole wheat pasta was surprisingly tasty, unlike many of the dry, cardboard-like whole wheat pasta I've tasted in the past. My only gripe about this dish is that the pasta could have been more al dente, and I wish they hadn't added so much sauce to it (it was almost half soupy). The interior of the restaurant is clean and welcoming, and if you sit outside you get a beautiful view of North Jersey forest. The service is prompt and polite. And the dinner rolls are homemade and delicious! Valet parking is required. There is a bocce ball course outside. The staff was wonderful especially a gentleman named Bailey who suggested a variety of cocktails before the entree . I had the sirloin strip steak that was cooked to perfection with Demi Glacé with onions that added to the enjoyment but did not outshine the wonderful flavor of the steak but complimented it in beautiful harmony . We went here this past weekend to celebrate our mother's birthday. This place was certainly a drive from where we were, Flemington NJ. We seemed to have gone at a perfect time, a late lunch at around 2pm. The room was comforting and generously spaced out, it was a bit chilly so bring a coat if the days cold. Food was wonderful, three courses for all of us, salads are large, easily able to be shared between two. I got the rack of lamb and it was delicious, unbelievable flavor, would've loved it to have been cut slightly was difficult to eat, inexperienced lamb rack eater. I took my wife out to lunch today at the Mohawk House in Sparta NJ and what I found was a mixed bag. When you spend 225.00 (With tip) for a lunch for two you expect certain things in both food quality and service. We started with a shrimp cocktail which was over cooked and chewy and the tuna crudo which was perfect. Both were 16.00 each. Next was the entree. My wife had the Chilean sea bass which was done perfectly for 42.00. I had the 8oz prime filet medium rare for 38.00, the steak was very good but we were charged 7.00 for 2oz of sauce. My 9.00 baked potato was a little under cooked and did not have enough sour cream. Next was dessert which was interesting. My wife ordered her favorite creme brulee which was just vanilla pudding with crusted sugar on top. Not the golden egg custard we expected and it was over priced. I had the strawberry shortcake which was made with older shortcake pieces. Not a good recommendation either. I wanted a cappuccino and my with wanted espresso. We were told the machine was broken. Oh well. The coffee was just ok and that finished our anniversary meal. The service was hit and miss as well. Our server was nice, funny and prompt at times. He was there when we needed him but he seemed to take his time with drink and menu requests. He did not deserve the 40.00 tip we left him. overall it was a just an ok lunch for our 35th anniversary. I worked in NYC for almost 20 years and this type of meal and service would not be tolerated by any fine restaurant. Too much competition. Here in Sussex County you do not have any competition for fine dining which is why we had these issues. Buyer beware, if you have the time to travel then go out of county. If you want a fine meal without the drive then you are stuck with the Mohawk House. read more

This place is so cute on the inside, has amazing food, and exceptional service. I love all the old brick/stone in the dining area. We were seated by the "winery" and I loved looking at the wine wine. The dining room also had a fire place that was nice to look at as well. We started our meal with the bacon wrapped scallops and brie wheel with honey. The scallops were big and tender. The honey with walnuts to accompany the cheese was AMAZING! I would recommend both. For an entree my fiancé got the prime rib, which was on the specials menu. It was rare, flavorful, and tender. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans. Both great flavor. I got the filet cooked medium rare and it was perfect and melted in my mouth. It came with scalloped potato's and green beans. I wish I could have bought a whole tray of the potatoes. They were topped with gruyere cheese and the potatoes had a good bit to them. For dessert, I got creme brûlée, good portion and creamy and delicious! I would also recommend the fig 75 drink. It's a champagne drink with fig vodka and pear purée. So good. This place is definitely expensive but well worth the money. The food is amazing and the service is great. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable on the menu. I attend a Christening luncheon. The restaurant is beautiful however the lunch left me hunger and disgusted. The rolls were fresh and delicious, the mushroom soup excellent and the salad was so small. I ordered the chicken piccata which was an over cooked fried chicken breast with some sauce. This is not chicken piccata I told the server and they brought me out grilled chicken with some sauce which still isn't chicken piccata. My husband had the salmon which was good but it was so small it left him hungry. For $30 a plate should have been more of a serving. Wouldn't recommend for a function. read more

We had our rehearsal dinner here in one of the private rooms upstairs. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful and the room had large windows which allowed for nice natural light. They let you pick a menu with an appetizer, entree, and dessert. We also added on the cheese and cracker station and beer and wine options. Everyone was beyond happy with the food and drinks. I went to the Mohawk house for a book signing event last night. It was a disaster from the start. After waiting for about 15 minutes to valet park (no self parking) we entered and signed in. Registration desk had three people and it went fairly smoothly. We were directed into a fairly large room that had been cleared except for the seats on the outside of the room. I am estimating that there were 60 seats, all occupied. I found out that over 250 tickets were sold and the vast majority of these people were standing up squished into the room. There was supposed to be light refreshments....never saw a piece of food. Mind you, this event was supposed to be from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Harlan Coben was the author and was quite entertaining...for about ten minutes. But I am sure he looked at all of standing there and took pity. We decided not to wait to get the book signed and to beat the rush to get our car. I think one person was working the valet line....it took about 15 minutes to get the car and we only had about five people ahead of us. The good news is that are so many people willing to come out on a Tuesday night to support the Sparta Bookstore--which is a treasure for Sparta NJ. But as far as events go, this was not well thought out. Shame on the Mohawk house. read more

Couldn't have asked for a better experience here. My buddies and I stopped in after a round of golf for some burgers, beers, and apps. The food was incredible. Let me tell ya, the 10 mile burger was on the food channel for a reason...maybe the best burger I've ever had. Beer list was extensive but you can't go wrong with anything on draft. This place is one of my husband and mine's favorite spots to eat. Food can be hit or miss depending on what you get, so definitely ask for the bar menu! The pizzas are good, and so is the mushroom soup! You can't go wrong with the burgers here (especially the mangalista burger that comes with the fried egg and cheese). It's their take on a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich because the mangalista pork tastes like straight up bacon. It's a special breed of pig that doesn't turn brown when cooked, so don't be alarmed if the inside of your burger looks pink and rare! The shishito pepper appetizer is also fantastic. My advice is to stay away from the expensive fancy menu, and order off the bar menu. I think you'll be happier with the decision, it's cheaper, and from my experience I am happier with the food! read more
