When my brother told me that they had a mofongo restaurant that worked like one of those burrito places, but with mofongo, I couldn't quite believe him! We went to try it since I live in a town where the mofongo game is sad, and mofongo is one of my favorite food groups. The line was long, which is usually a good sign. Later we realized the line was long because service was slow. They were having issues keeping up with the demand. After we finally got the mofongo, I understood why they are in such demand! The quality of the mofongo was great, very flavorful and not dry. I don't think it's quite my moms mofongo, but it's a really good take on this traditional food item. I think they need to work on their service, and figure out a way to be more efficient, but on the food side of things, it's really good! Definitely stopping there on my next visit read more

Pretty solid food it's putting a standard on Puerto Rican cuisine. I really loved it the access is ok but the rice is mouth watering and the pork is cooked perfectly you cannot do any better. Mofongo does it right hopefully you foodies go check it out. read more

Ordered to pickup off Uber eats: I ordered the meal, it said it'd take 15-20mins. The restaurant pinged it for pick up after 5. When I got there around 10 minutes the restaurant said it wasn't ready and they needed more time. There were 5-6 people waiting in the restaurant, during social distancing. Then the front desk clerk tells me that I have picked up my order?? So what am I doing there?! 3 stars and that's just an added a pity star because the pandemic is also a factor in this. Yummy! With the Coronavirus shutting down all restaurants, my new favorite thing to do is take out. My husband and I are focusing on supporting local businesses during this crisis. I am ashamed to say I never tried Mofongo.. until this past weekend. What an amazingly pleasant surprise! Everything was so glorious! We ordered corn fritters filled with cheese to start.. this was basically a mini corn bread filled with cheese.. sooo good! My daughter got the chicken fingers and fries for her meal which she loved. My husband and I split two dishes: the mango chili fried chicken with rice and beans and the mango chicken with Mofongo. Both were a delightful combination of spicy and sweet and the small fried chicken bites were a party in my mouth. I never had Mofongo before and it's smashed plantains with rice and garlic/spices.. My fiance and I have been hooked on Mofongo (the dish) since a trip to Puerto Rico a couple years ago. Food-wise, MofonGo (the restaurant) is amazing - freshly made, flavorful mofongo. Based on food alone, MofonGo deserves 5 stars. So why the 3 stars? The past 3 times we've been, we have called ahead and ordered take-out. But every time we arrive there, they have our order receipt printed out but haven't even started making our food. Noticing the trend, today we decided to give MofonGO one last chance, calling ahead with an order for two mofongo bowls. I said we would be there in 20-25 minutes, the guy on the other end of the phone confidentially said "it will be ready in 15". Arriving 20 minutes later, I saw the paper bag meant for our order still empty and was told it would be another "5 minutes" (spoiler alert: it took longer than another 5 minutes). So in short, go for the food, but be prepared to wait...and then wait again. read more

Within a mile of this location in New Britain there are a lot of good options for international food choices that are not well known, and I give this spot a higher review than I would normally, based on the fact that it has one of the nicest spaces for the area. The food is good, the atmosphere is inviting, and they have an interesting concept and food choices. On the operation side, there are some improvements that could be made (they don't always recognize the customer's perspective), and if they run out of something, there may be no more coming soon, and I think they have the important things done right. Wow! it is definitely the spot to go for some amazing Latin Caribbean cuisine if you are in New Britain! This is coming from a NYC Dominican that was around the area and pulled out his yelp and found this gem. I had the Beef stew, with white rice and beans. Some Chimichurri Sauce on the meat and for a side, a Chicken Empanada. The food was delicious. The only thing that I wasn't to keen on was that the already made food available (Pans) could have looked fresher... I don't like writing bad reviews as I am in the restaurant industry myself but the service that was provided at this establishment yesterday was mind blowing. I had ordered over Uber eats for pickup and arrived only 2 minutes before the order was due. The restaurant workers did not seem to care and served all those in line first, while serving them the rice we had ordered. I was okay with white rice but my boyfriend decides to wait 15 minutes for Spanish rice. While waiting the waitstaff sells all the pernil which was what was ordered. We wasted an hour of our time only to walk out empty handed AND not receive a refund from Uber eats. We liked this spot prior but it needs to step up its customer service, rude and inattentive. read more

I stopped in after hearing about Mofongo from a few friends. They said the food was authentic and delicious. I was ready to find out for myself. I went on a busy Friday night and opened the door. I got smacked by a cloud of garlicky deliciousness. It was great until I had to go home and realized my clothes smelled like an "abuelas" kitchen. I got to the counter and had to wait for the shrimp monfongo as they were making a fresh batch of shrimp. I partly blame that on myself for choosing the "special" for the night. The order counter was reminiscent of a Moe's or Chipotle, but the food was 100x more authentic and 100x fresher. To speed up the process I decided to pay while the shrimp was coming out. I did and then stood on the side waiting for my order. Unfortunately, they didn't keep tabs of who ordered first so it was a mad rush for the shrimp mofongo. They need a better process for that. The mofongo was good, but not great. If it were a couple dollars cheaper it probably would've tasted better. I also ordered "papas rellenas" which are stuffed potato balls. Anyone from PR will tell you they are normally the size of baseballs, but these weren't even the size of golf balls. For what they charge for them it's a hard pass when I go back. Overall, the food was good, the price was bad, but if I'm ever craving mofongo and in the NB area I'd stop by again. read more

This spot just opened yesterday so I had to stop in and try their mofongo since that's the name of the restaurant. The flavor was great, nice size shrimp with fresh diced onion and tomato . My only complaint is that the mofongo was not mashed good enough, it was still very lumpy, this is why they lose a star . From the line at today's lunch it is well onto its road to culinary fame. Had lunch there today and had to have the Mofongo Bowl with Pernil [$7.99]. My host had the Chicken and it was just as good but who could pass up pernil! The mofongo base is perfect, the pernil was juicy and delicious and the added chicharon crumbles on top made it perfect. The added salsa helped also. So, as you can readily see, I will be back and stand in line without a single complaint. Can't wait to try the Breakfast Chorizo Hash Bowl. Didn't know what to expect?! Until the first bite I was hook. I had the shrimp mofongo never had that in my life an I'll tell you it's the best thing I've ever had I'm addicted. The pricing is so reasonable I couldn't believe the only downside is the staff they still need to be trained on service. It confusing on the way in cause you don't know where to order there's no ice so if you want a cold coke you can't have it cause there's no fountain soda dispenser. I ger there and im waiting by the pick up order register...im left to wait there as the two attendants attend not only the people who were there first..but everyone that came after. No concession nothing at all just do you still want it. Being that i was in a bind i said ok despite it all and no sooner do i ask for chicken than she says we dont have that. Food was flavorful but not over seasoned and very fresh which is amazing since most of it is prepared. And that's one of the best parts - I tend to be on the go so it's rare I want to sit and wait for dinner and Mafongo has it ready to go! We had the pork bowl and steak bowl heaped with meat, rice and beans. When I couldn't decide between the shredded or fried pork, the staff suggested I do half and half - perfect! (I'm pretty sure he's a genius, btw) Ambiance is fantastic. Tasteful retro-chic decor, lovely Spanish language music in the background and friendly/courteous staff. The morning A team was great.. especially Roxy and Andrea!! We had never been before.. didnt even know what mofongo was (‍ yes apparently we live under a rock!) Roxy explained everything, and even made us a small version with everything to try. We were blown away.. it was delicious! Let me start with the bad, so you know what you're getting into: the wait time can be unacceptably long. I don't know if this is caused by disorganization or the fact that this restaurant is still in its infancy, however the good here completely outweighs the bad if you have time/can be patient. The mofongo is all the right flavors, every time, at a reasonable price. Order the namesake of this restaurant and you will not be disappointed. Sadly the cupcakes are not all that spectacular, but I don't come here for dessert anyway, so I didn't factor that into my rating. Overall this place is totally worth a try, especially if you are a fan of Puerto Rican or mofongo. 4 stars only because I'm impatient.
