Moeller's Bakery is Delicious! I regularly drive from Sugar Land just to go there. It's the only place that my family gets their birthday and other special occasion cakes from!! Highlights: petit fours are perfect two bite cakes, the gingerbread men are completely addictive, the lemon chiffon cake is light and refreshing, the orange rolls are a great breakfast treat, the dinosaur cookies (sugar cookies) are a kid's favorite, the coconut cake is my father's favorite, the cheese straws are extremely popular... other things to try: the cupcakes, molasses cookies, any of their cakes, Italian cream cake, carrot cake, fruit filled tarts... Can you tell that the place is the best? It's located next to Palace Lanes bowling. There is limited parking in front of the bakery, but many people just park in the palace lanes lot and walk over. We had an excellent experience with Moeller's. After helping a friend out of a bad situation, we wanted to celebrate a full year of their 'freedom', and Moeller's pulled through with an excellent carrot cake. The cream cheese frosting wasn't greasy or sickly-sweet, and the cake itself was moist, delicious, and (matching our friend's preference) didn't include raisins. The only real problem we had was that while a cake had been reserved for us at the time we asked, the message we asked for had not been iced on it when we came to pick it up. Thankfully we weren't in any hurry - but it was a little inconvenient to stand around for 10 minutes while they were completing the work. Perhaps a miscommunication happened somewhere along the line. At $30 for an 8-inch, Moeller's wasn't our cheapest option, but for an everyday cake that's 'off the shelf', the quality was very good and definitely a cut above any grocery store cake. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it, and we're looking forward to our next celebration - an excuse to buy another! read more

This place is expensive without the taste. We spent $100 on a birthday sheet cake. The icing is like pure sugar, no buttercream taste here! It has a chemical aftertaste and even the chocolate has no taste of chocolate? The cake was also under flavored! No red velvet taste here! Their decor of the cake is juvenile. Moeller's saved the day! Another bakery messed up my dad's birthday cake and Moeller's was able to have a replacement one ready day of! Not only was it the correct cake (Italian cream), it looked beautiful and tasted amazing!! The service was also amazing and I was waiting for the cake to be boxed, they gave me a Petit Four to try which was also very good! I got a six pack of the cinnamon rolls without raisins cause I'm a sucker for sweets and WOW! Don't sleep on the cinnamon rolls, they're AMAZING! This was my first time ordering items from this bakery, I had heard it was good but never made the time to check it out. I wanted some nice sweets for my husbands birthday and yesterday just happened to be the last day they were open (before closing indefinitely until coronavirus is through). We got the apple tea ring, some petit fours, and a lemon meringue pie. The apple tea ring is amazing, each segment is full of delicious apple filling. Parking is really weird, best to park next door at the bowling alley parking lot. So many varieties of cookies, cakes, Danish. The 10 mins I was there, there were lots of regulars. Popular items ordered were : Lemon jelly roll Cinnamon twist Lemon Danish Maradi gras bread I wish they had labels on the pastries & cookies. It was quite busy in there so I didn't want to hold up the line and ask for a show and tell. I came to purchase a lemon chiffon cake for a party. My first time trying this cake was at a friends house. I recommend having it in the fridge. So the cake & icing can be more firm.I had it room temperature and it wasn't that yummy. I bought a chocolate pie on Friday. First of all, they are not full size pies, but considerably smaller. Price was $20 which would have been ok, except the pie was like something you'd get at a grocery store. The chocolate was not dark enough-milky, and the crust to me was not even a crust. I don't know what it was. I'm sure they buy these. I know they have been there for 100 years, but really what does that even matter when they turn out products like this. I do like to go there, but will never buy a pie again. read more

Everything we tried was delicious - and we tried way too much. I have never tasted a Petit Four (tiny 2 bite cake) better than those made here. If you only stop by for this reason you will NOT be disappointed! Their iced Christmas cookies were better than big store bakery offerings and beat all the other bakeries around by far. The sugar cookie is not super hard and the icing tastes like butter cream, but is more sturdy. I'm sure I am not describing either very well, so you will have to go try for yourself - you won't regret it! (Big fan of their gingerbread as well). read more

Moeller's did a fantastic job on cupcakes and petit fours for my sister's baby shower. There ended up being a lot of back and forth with the woman who helped me but she was extremely patient and kind, I wish I could remember her name. When I picked the desserts up I was pleasantly surprised at how accurate they were to the picture I had sent in and also impressed at how delicious they were. When I went to go in and order a 1/4 sheet cake, the employee was quite kind. After talking about the design, she charged me $60. I know it is steep but wanted to give a local bakery a shot. The office had February treats for us. Heart shaped iced cookies for Valentine's Day, King Cake for Fat Tuesday, and Chocolate Chip cookies just because. The chocolate chip cookies is my favorite of the 3 so I tried it and the cookies which are mini size cookies. Great for portion control. Sharing is caring. I picked the right baked goods because I came back to take a picture for my review and the chocolate chip cookies were all gone. I also like that the bakery still included the beads and baby for the king cake on the side for decoration and picture taking purposes. Also the note on the tradition of the holiday is nice too. Lots of king cakes are omitting the baby so I like the traditional aspect of the bakery. read more

It's really rare for me to give a one-star review, but this place earned it. I ordered an 8 inch Italian Creme cake for my mother-in-law's birthday over the phone. When I got there I searched the tables for pickup and didn't find the cake. I was ignored for a while until someone decided to see what I wanted. I told them I was supposed to be picking up an 8 inch Italian Creme cake. After standing there for a while, I was told they couldn't find it but they could fix me up. So I said okay. They gave me a cake and it looked okay and I got charged for an Italian Creme cake. At the birthday party, it turned out that it was a spice cake (like I couldn't tell the difference). The cake was dry, the icing was very brittle, and while my MIL said she liked it, she insisted we take the rest of the cake with us when we left. They have been around since 873 BC.... a seriously long time. Great cookies, petit fours, etc... Not in the French style mind you, however buttery and flaky, well made. Missing is the coffee. Consuming bakery items without coffee should be outlawed. I may have to run for office based solely on that platform. Though I do love my well brewed Lilly, etc. Italian and other coffee I'd be happy with a Krupps or drip, doesn't have to be a full blown espresso. It's the principal involved. read more

The lemon meringue pie's curd was a little bit too sweet for me. It seems like they may have added sweetened condensed milk for whatever reason which just wasn't my thing and the meringue was a bit on the sweet side as well. I prefer the lemon meringue pie from The pie factory in Bellaire where it didn't have that sweetened condensed milk tastes and was not as sweet as this one. Although I prefer the lemon flavor of Moeller's more. Moeller's crust was also crispier so that's nice. Overall, since I rather it not be so sweet, I prefer The pie factory more. As for the chewy chocolate cookies, they were awesome! They Remind me of the ones that the Collin Street bakery in corsicana and HEB used to make. Central market used to carry something like this, however I'm not sure if they do anymore. Although they're smaller and a bit more expensive than the H-E-B ones, they're still good. read more

I've passed this bakery many times but never stopped. My 89 year old mom said she had a taste for a slice of lemon meringue pie. On our way from the doctor's we stopped and went inside but unfortunately they only make lemon meringue on the weekend. They did have apple and pecan and we purchased the apple pie. Classic Petit Fours. When one throws out "Moeller's Bakery Houston" those three words sum up the gist of the majority response. And those petit fours are divine. My mom and I tried some for the first time recently. After living in Houston for 30+ years and she being a dessert fanatic--as in she likes making them, we decided to go on a Bellaire bakery tour of sorts, hitting up Moeller's, then Three Brothers. What was all this fuss about? After taking the first bite of a light as air, melt in your mouth white cake petit four, we understood. We, well I, also picked up a pack of orange rolls, cinnamon rolls w/ raisins, two gingerbread men, and two fruit pie "boomerangs". OK, so it sounds a bit much, but I did share and my mom and I were "researching". It was all unbelievably fresh. The cinnamon roll was the freshest, most scrumptious cinnamon roll I think I've ever had in my life. The bread was soft and moist, it wasn't overly sweet and did not plague you with the weird preservative aftertaste you get from Mrs. Baird's cinnamon rolls. I know, sacrilege to even compare the two. Until yesterday, I've never had an orange roll. Just the idea--I imagine a lot of orange zest--isn't appealing to me. But I trust Gretchen P.'s judgement, and hey, Sonic Youth's too. So I picked up a pack and qwhomygawd! fresh, light, barely there orange flavor--just right. I happily gobbled down two for my pre-breakfast this morning. What a great way to start the day! Thanks to Linh N.'s review of this place, I decided to head over for some sweets! Now, I am a tad hard to please (apparently) when it comes to desserts. I typically like my desserts to be so sweet/rich that my teeth hurt. However, this place rocks the sweets in every way shape and form!!! I ordered sooo many different things that I do not not even know what most of them were, but the majoriity of them were very very tasty and made my mouth happy (Plus, it only came to $10.83!??!) The white cookie with just a drizzle of white icing (crack?) was hands down fabulous!! Just that little bit of icing kind of melted once my lips touched it. Don't know what it is called (see pic). The Maple brown sugar? cookie was good as well, but the white one was much better. Moving on--the small little treats, some with icing, and some with a choc. dollop were both very satisfying and quite tasty. Petit fours: I ordered a white and and a chocolate, and while the white one was good, the chocolate one was DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!! It was the best petit four that I have EVER put into my mouth and I am now stalking Moeller's to see when I can conveniently "have" to be on that side of town! I came here based in all of the rave reviews. I have actual passed this place up for many years and just never stopped by. After seeing the pics of the petite fours I decided to try. I love the idea of trying a small sample of a piece of cake rather then buying a whole cake and then come to find out you hate it. I came here in Saturday afternoon the Day before fathers day. They had alot of items. Petite fours, cupcakes , small personal cakes, pies, cookies, and even bread. I got 6 chocolate petite fours... $ 1.95 3 cupcakes .85 cents 3 vanilla petite fours $1.71 1 bag pecan sandies $4.10 total+++++++++++ $ 31.16 w/ tax Cupcakes 85 Cents. I was like...... I'll take the whole tray... thank you! Now that's cheap . (i just got all the cupcakes that had small flowers like the petite fours) The lady helping me was helpful. I had no idea of prices. The place was really busy. Luckily there were three women at the counter. Overall I got what I came for. Service was good . The box holding the treats was sealed shut. I got home and tried to open the box and it was sealed with tape on all sides. On a Previous review (Lee J.) said the chocolate cake was similar to a coke cola cake. It very much is. I've made coke cake in the past and it tastes very similar . The vanilla is just vanilla. The cakes are moist and sweet . Almost melt in your mouth good. The pecan sandies were a tad hard. Wonderful petit fours!!! They will melt in your mouth! We came twice in two weeks and stocked up the second time. We don't live close so it was a nice treat getting to stop in. They have these cone shaped desserts with cream inside just like an eclair. So yummy!!! My friend was told they would have lemon cakes Monday afternoon when we went back but when we called on our way they said they didn't have any. This is way I am taking one star away. One person said one thing and then it wasn't correct. Very disappointing considering we drove a long way for the lemon cake. read more

I think I'm also going to be in the minority when I say that I was expecting more from here. My friend and I came here after we heard the raves about the petit fours. So, we put up with a bit of a drive to check it out. I got a box of 3 white petit fours, 2 chocolate petit fours, 2 orange rolls, a butter pecan cookie, almond log, chinese chewy cookie (?) and 2 of the other white cookie that looks like the chinese chewy cookie, but with a small pool of white icing. The damage was a mere $11 with tax. Let me first state that I am not a "cake" person. I usually find it to be too dry overall, and it's such a turn-off. Here, the petit fours cake is the epitome of moist, which is great news. Moist cake paired with icing that literally melts in your mouth is a wonderful combo and gets two thumbs up from me. But that's where the goodness ends. The downside was that I found it to be lacking any sort of flavor. So, it tasted like a very pleasant...moist white sweet nothing. The chocolate petit fours were definitely a step up, but still, a bit of a disappointment. :( The tiny orange rolls were too dry for me, and I know this will sound sacrilege, but I think I'd actually prefer the trans-fatty pillsbury orange rolls fresh from the oven, instead of these. Not the best compliment to Moeller's, I know. :( The cookies were probably the highlight, for me. My favorite cookie was definitely the white almond (I think?) one with the white icing. Nothing that I would go out of my way for, but if I was in the area, I might stop by. My second favorite item was the chocolate petit fours for the lone fact that it had more of a flavor. Everything else was just ok to me and didn't scream "I came from a really good bakery instead of the grocery store." I ended up bringing the leftovers to my family to help me polish it all off. I must say, their reactions were also those of disenchantment. So, the underwhelming (average) treats plus the sub-par service (which I didn't even mention, but yes, the girls at the counter did not seem eager to serve) left me sorely unimpressed and hence the 3 stars. read more

Not good, definitely do not recommend. We are not a first time Moeller's customer but definitely a last time customer. I ordered my husband a Boston Red Sox birthday cake weeks in advance, half Italian Cream, half devils food. A man even called me to discuss the raspberry filling not working with these flavor. So I know they received the order. We showed 30 minutes after our designated pickup time and not only did the rude woman at the counter argue that "we don't make that kind of flavor" but turns out they just didn't make our cake! We showed them the receipt, what good can that do on the date you need your specialty cake? They reimbursed us the hundred or so for the cake and we had to buy a regular stock cake so we'd actually have a birthday cake for my husbands party. They should have offered the regular "replacement" cake out of good faith but that level of customer service has obviously escaped them. This was their 2nd chance to redeem themselves with us after a similar instance happened with our sons 21st bday cake last July. I called the day before the party to confirm the pickup time and the woman tells me then they didn't have the ingredients to bake an Italian cream cake. (Ummmm, we're you going to call me at all to tell me this? Or just not make that cake either? Now I'm guesstimating we wouldn't have had a 21st birthday cake for that occasion either!) I simply told the lady that not having that flavor was disappointing and she said "do you want the cake or not". I mean, really, you're asking me THE DAY BEFORE if I still want it? Lol! AND I had to call YOU to find out there was an issue with the order? Of course we took one of the 2 flavors they currently offered that week, due to our sons 21st bday party was already scheduled. And we took it without a reimbursement for the price difference between the Italian cream that we paid for and the regular old chocolate we received. These last 2 orders will absolutely be our last. Time to find a new bakery! These folks may be ok to just walk in & buy items in the display case but for specialty cakes, for special occasions? Do yourself a favor and find a different bakery. To those who still decide to order a specialty cake from Moeller's, if you want to avoid ruining your party's dessert, call, call, call to confirm they are actually doing what you've paid them to do. read more

I have purchased and consumed their goods since I was a very small child back when they were located in Rice Village. No one has a taste that comes close. Cookies, petite fours, orange rolls, almond logs, danish...okay I am drooling while remembering. The staff is quick but thorough. First let me say I'm a sweets fanatic! Found this bakery in the area and said I'd give them a try since the reviews were decent. Sweets...GREAT. Staff...TERRIBLE. I was greeted upon entry, however I guess before I arrived another order was messed up or some other staff issues. Linda was very rude. Stared me down....and shrugged sayin "You ready". "I asked you earlier but you just kept on waking back and forth" all after complaining about how she was ready to go home and didn't want to hear how she could resolve her issue with her manager. She continued to walk to the register no "Anything else for you" or "Ok your total is..." just stand-offish. Tone so unpleasant. I politely thanked her anyway and wished her well for the remainder of the day despite. I'd rather get my sweets for Kroger or another bakery. I love dessert even if I am allergic to wheat - it is my favorite food group and so I always volunteer to get the dessert for any party I am invited. The last party was for a family friend's daughter's first birthday. I knew what I wanted and I searched high and low for a good bakery near West University because I did not want to drive far from the party location. I read the reviews for Moeller's Bakery and decided to just do it. I went in a week before the party to place the order for a single layer round cake with a specific Sesame Street decoration. I had the artwork and so it was easy. The cake is white - what they are known for with white frosting and the design. Then I added 2 dozen red velvet cupcakes and bought some Sesame Street decorations for it. Everyone LOVED the cake and cupcakes - people talked about it all day. The cake decorator did an amazing job and it was exactly like the photo. And the price for both was just under $200! I knew this bakery was amazing when I walked in to place the order and there was a line of tables with cakes on them ready for pick up and in 10 mins of me being at the bakery, there was a line 7 people deep behind me. I went during the World Series so naturally I picked up World Series cookies for my nephew. He loved that too! The building is small and the parking is just a small but manageable. Absolutely horrific customer service. I placed an order for cookies, a smash cake, and cupcakes for my son's zoo-themed 1st birthday party. Not only did they not make all of the cookies I ordered, the ladies had a dismissive attitude about messing up my order when I complained. Employees were rolling their eyes at me because I didn't want gingerbreadman cookie replacements for my zoo-themed party. One employee snickered "You need to be happy you even got cookies."
