All they care about is money, adding procedures that are unnecessary. They quoted $800 just to pull a broken tooth. When I said that I cannot justify that price, the office mgr cut the quote down to $450. Talk about the red flag going up, I couldn't get out of there fast enough. She would not refund the $100 deposit that I put down because a surgeon was to travel in to excise the broken tooth. Since the procedure was cancelled and no surgeon had to travel in, I was told I would get the refund of $100. That has not happened - it has been two months. Terrible experience. They have a drop in Dentists that pulled my tooth. Never talked to me, have no idea who is, only comes there 2 times a month. Pulls your tooth and gets his money and gone. Said my tooth exploded, had to remove bone, but another bone in , it's is 4 Months still in pain. I was sedated so never saw or saw him. Never came in before to discuss the procedure. read more

The front desk was nice, however it took a long time just to get checked in & when I met the dentist, he said there was a lot of issues in my gums & teeth! I know my teeth are fine, I brush twice a day & floss daily. When he was evaluating my teeth with the numbers, I kept hearing 3's & 4's, which has never happened before & I've been to many dentists around Modesto. This one is definitely scammy. Even through insurance I still paid $300+ out of pocket because he said I had receding gums & had to do more than just a cleaning to get the hard plaque out. This is the WORST dental office in Modesto. Please never go here. I have 2 children and my dad are patients here and they all have received horrible service. Ashley is the worst person for front desk and finance rep, and I hope she's fired after this review. Honestly because of her I never want to go back. Laura and Javier are cool. Ashley will see my call coming in on Caller ID and won't even answer the phone, but put me immediately on hold or won't answer just to let the answering company pick up my call. They sent my son's account into collections while he was still a high school student and not working. They had him sign off on procedures without explaining that he will be financially responsible. He was under 18 at that time. My dad got dentures through Modesto Smiles, they were glad to take him for his money, however there was no care package or explanation afterwards. Not even a denture case was provided, yet he spent over $5000 out of pocket! On top of that, Zero follow up. When I tell you the service we received was bad, it was BAD. Now the doctors were good! They just need a better staff. No one there wants to really work there anyways or wants to deal with patients. Please take my advice and look elsewhere for dental care. This ain't it. read more

Dr Tully ruined my teeth. Made a crown that is too small and there is now a huge gap that gets lodged with food. I had a root canal here and the tooth is so sensitive I can't eat anything warm on that side. The front office hustler talked me into a DNA test for my mouth. Said Dr would review it with me. He didn't- just got a print out that I can't understand. Many more issues. I spent 12,500 dollars here! Please run from this place - it's the worse. Tried to take advantage of me and my little brother, not on time with appointments. The first time me and my brother walked in this office for an appointment they started throwing numbers and a crazy $11,000 dental plan at us. While explaining the dental plan the lady was like a salesperson and told us that normally these things would be $1000+ but she acted like she was being nice to us and giving us a deal at $500. I am giving a one-star for Ashley and from the one hygienist (Fernando or Ernesto - sorry, I don't recall his actual name). Made an appt. for 2pm and arrived at 2pm. After several "red flags," I finally decided to leave after sitting for 1hr 48 mins. It is not professional to leave your patient sitting and waiting that long and not give them a heads up that they are behind. Dr's well refuse to see you if you are late, but then will make you wait for hours to be seen, even with an appt. The red flags simply are too much to list, but read some of the complaints, dead on straight truth of how you may be treated. I will say once again that Ashley was sweet and kind. I've been going here for about a year. First of all, Ashley? Not just a terrible employee with an attitude, but such an ugly human being inside and out. So unnecessarily rude and unprofessional especially towards those who don't speak English perfectly. My last two visits, I haven't seen that awful face of hers or came across her bitchy tone on the phone. I'm pretty sure she got fired after all these negative reviews about her (fingers crossed and well deserved) I'm convinced she had family members give her good reviews on here to not make her look bad but trust that all these negative comments about her are 100% TRUE! Aside from that monster, the rest of the staff are the complete opposite!! Laura, Javier, Fernando, Briceyda (unfortunately no longer working here) all sweet souls. BUT don't let their kindness fool you because they will and have overcharged patients immensely. I basically left my last dental office due to being pressured into doing unnecessary treatments plus poor care from the hygienists and doctor who ridiculed my situation. Whereas the dentist & hygienists here are sooo gentle and kind. Dr. Tully is so nice & informative & gladly answers any dumb questions I have. I will say I don't like how he rushes out of the room when finished with whatever procedure. He ran out of the room before I could say thank you. I would caution anyone using this office for dental services. I recently changed insurance providers and elected Smiles Dentistry as my new provider. I had been with my prior dentist for years with a clean bill of health. From my first visit at Smiles Dentistry, I was told how bad my oral health was and advised I need additional cleanings and deep cleanings yearly to control the issue. I hesitantly agreed to move forward with the care plan. After my first deep cleaning I was met with a large itemized bill for the procedure, which I was able to negotiate down several hundred dollars. Additionally, my policy covers cleanings at no charge, so my frustrations rose when I tried to schedule follow up cleanings and was told it would cost nearly $200. As a Defense attorney who represents large insurance agencies, I am more than willing to negotiate for services; however, these business practices are suspect and borderline fraudulent. As such, I obtained a new dentist in Modesto, who told me I have great dental health, which has made me a much happier patient. TLDR. This place sucks. read more

My mom needed some dental work done and so a mold had to be done. They got it wrong at least 2 times and kept on blaming it on someone else. Not only that, but after getting what was a "great deal with discounts" we ended up getting over charged. I would definitely avoid this place at all costs. I was a new patient here & went to my appointment. They did xrays and after a brief "check" they said I needed my top 2 wisdom teeth removed & a 'deep cleaning' my insurance clearly pays for a general cleaning and my wisdom teeth removal. They refused to do my general cleaning bc it's supposedly going against what the Dentist ordered. I've had my wisdom teeth removed before with the same insurance and paid $200 at the most. These people were trying to charge almost 3K for something my insurance clearly covers. I walked out and walked back in with my insurance on the phone explaining to them that they're overcharging me on $hit that is supposed to be $0 co pay and they were clearly acting stupid and blocking me out. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. You see they have the newest computers and technology but now It makes sense, they up charge/ overcharge patients if they don't know. What a joke read more

No words can put together how insanely horrific this dental office is. From the scheduling, to the assistants, to the Dr. As a former dental assistant of 10 years, I have never seen a more chaotic office. The Dr seems to have a personal issue every month and can't make it to work. Appointments are scheduled and then canceled and rescheduled without my knowledge. Paying thousands of dollars for low quality care and leaving the office in literal tears should never happen! And more than once. This is not okay. read more

I have been going to this office for a year and overall I was happy with their service although it was very costly even with having a good dental insurance. I was there again with annual checking and to my surprise I was told two of my teeth needed to be pulled ( I met with a new dentist). The new dentist didn't bothered to look at my teeth and kept showing me the X-rays. He was there not even for 5 minutes and he rushed me to talk to receptionist to go over the cost. After I came home I felt so rushed up to make this decision which would cost me more than 2k. I called the next week and asked for a copy of my X-rays. I found another dentist and showed him my X-rays and asked for second opinion. He told me these teeth should be under watch and to be cleaned regularly and there is no need to be pulled out at this time. I also received a bill for this surgery before even going through it. So I called and canceled all my future appointments and never going back there again. They care more about money than patients. read more

The office staff are amazing. The dentist is kind and polite. I went in to get the top left side of my smile fixed, as I am missing a tooth and had a filling fall out of another on the same side. After x-rays, the dentist wanted to ignore my initial desire to fix the left side and was insistent I get the root canal on a tooth that 1 isn't bothering me and 2 is on the other side of my mouth. I have no problem eating on that side but currently cannot eat on the left side. After speaking with the financial lady, who was kind and understanding, we set up the plan to fix the left side as that is why I was there. The dentist came in and said there was a misunderstanding and we are doing the root canal. I said no, that is not in my budget and the financial advisor and I worked out a plan already. After speaking with her, he agreed to my plan to do a crown since I agreed to another appointment to pull the wisdom tooth that is missing the filling. The billing is the part I have a HUGE problem with. My co-pay for a ceramic crown is $240. They billed my insurance for the D2740 (ceramic crown) but then up charged for the upgraded material. What should have cost me $255 cost me $1365. They claim they do not do ceramic crowns. Knowing my insurances does not cover this upgraded material, it is the only material they use. They are not cost friendly. If they were more willing to follow what insurance covers I would continue my visits. $1365 for one tooth is ridiculous. Its hard enough finding a dentist office that is inviting but now you have to watch out for offices that stick it to your pocket book. read more

Had a few issues but they got fixed and treatment was great.

I had a crown put in that doesn't feel right from day 1 had several adjustments and now the tooth is basically flat with no grooves it is also very uncomfortable in my mouth . I was hoping to get another crown to replace this one because I honestly feel like it was not a good fit at all but instead dr blamed it on me grinding my teeth and basically told me I have to deal with it now even though he is the one that adjusted it so badly. My last visit I went in to explain the tooth doesn't feel right and is uncomfortable his solution was another adjustment. I switched dentist btw and I guess I have to deal with this crappy crown they put in my mouth that I paid thousands for. I recommend finding a personal dentist that has experience that will do all your work . As far as customer service it isn't bad read more

Zero stars if possible. Front desk girl doesn't know what she's doing and seems lost. Talked to her on the phone and she told me their scheduling system is different online for booking appointments. I booked twice online and it was canceled last minute because someone took my scheduled date. (What? That doesn't make any sense!) Did not give me any notice of cancelation (I called the day before to confirm and found out). She then told me, with a snobby high-school attitude, that call-ins for an appointment gets first dibs. So that means if I were to booked an appointment online last week and someone else calls-in today can take my scheduled date and time? Yes, yes they can. Save yourself the headache and don't even bother dealing with this dentistry. Find yourself a better office that knows how to do something simple like scheduling an appointment. Smiles Dr. Bronika Ato and her staff were so wonderful. Kind, friendly and very knowledgeable in their field. I lost a crown that was done several years ago by another dentist and my tooth was very decayed and I thought I would lose it but Dr. Bronika Ato was able to save it. They told me about their 1 day crown and it was done perfectly.. So happy I don't have to lose the tooth and it was all painless. The office is extremely clean and they follow all the Covid rules. We didn't care for our previous dentist office so we decided to give Modesto Smiles a try and we are so glad we did! We were greeted immediately as we walked in and it was amazing to not see 15 people waiting like we were use to knowing they over booked and you'd be there all day. Ashley at the front desk got us checked in and soon after Javier got us going with x-rays and into our rooms. I brought my almost 3 year old also for his first check up and they were so sweet made him feel as comfortable as possible, gave him stickers and didn't force him when he got upset. Dr. Tully and Dr. Tan were both great at explaining everything and walking you through options without making you feel rushed or pushing anything on you. Fernando did my cleaning and was thorough and not to rough. The office was so organized and clean they also had tv, coloring books and blocks in the lobby for kids as well as a water dispenser and keurig. Over all it was an amazing experience and this is most defiantly our new family dentist! read more

Made it clear in the beginning that I am retired on Medicare and pay for extra premium dental. Matt said they would contact my Ins and if not they would charge me the contract price for the dental procedures. Found the estimated costs were then charged to a credit card the saleswoman procured for me with a $9500 limit which included a crown which was done same day but nearly another $5k for oral extraction of 4 teeth which later in the chair found requested sedation was not included and needed to add another @$800. Blood pressure shot up and procedure was canceled by dentist. Fast forward 8 months and bill never adjusted to Credit @5k work not done, left message for Matt now 4 weeks ago-no return contact and acct not adjusted, called credit co and advised @$5k charges work not completed, told him to note payment due amount is disputed. Today received bill with no adjustments but a $30 late charge( I had been current @ 10 months paying @$200 mo.) oh and ins of some amounts paid which were not reflected on credit card account either! A review of other Yelp comments indicated a usual procedure for new patients especially sr citizens to get a crown done on their first visit! Always about double of what Ins pays...Bottom line my crown has been surely paid for so I do not want to pay for work not performed. There should be consumer related protections and assistance for these matters please! Matt still work there? Be careful what they charged you for co-pay and make sure you check with your insurance provider, which I did. They tried to charged me waaayyyy more than what it should be, very misleading and confusing. I emailed the benefit coordinator and told him about the discrepancy, gave him time to explain but no reply from him, so I decided to switch dental clinic. Check with the insurance first before agreeing on any treatment or procedures you needed. read more

My 70 year neighbor went to get her took pulled. They bruised her face and lip while being very rough with her. She has never felt pain like this with no remorse from the office staff.
