I don't like writing these things but today tops it. Called to have 3 recliners picked up along with my trash. Took 3 trips to get them 1/4 mile away (one way) to the street. It's not easy - I'm, 69 years old. After working in the fields all day, I take the tractor down there and the frickin' things are still there. Imagine the fun the kids will have with them tonight. Called 3 times - once to schedule and twice with questions. Call the company and was pretty huffy. The girl rudely said: "If they were that important to you, you should have brought them here. 69 with COPD - uh no. I'm not quitting them because their track record has been 95%. Dismayed to see those recliners after getting up early to make sure they were way in time for pickup and to hear that from the girl - grrrr. read more

We have a new driver named dylan and he came early and we didn't have our trash by the road. He came back and grabbed it for us because we were standing outside. I was very happy. He is a very nice guy. Keep up the great work Dylan. read more

I give no stars, this place has went down hill and the person in the office working the phones knows nothing about customer service . I cancelled in February of 2025, then they are trying to bill me for March, April and May, I sent them a letter canceling and called and left a message, plus they have the audacity to tell me I have to pay quarterly by automatically withdrawing every month . or I'd have to pay $10.00 dollars a month extra, they just lost a 9 year customer, all they had to do was say, What can we do to make it right, but instead proceeded to argue with me telling me I owe and I do not owe ! read more

I have haven't call more than once for the trash to be picked up. I am looking for another trash removal service. Last week they did not come at all. I called and was told they would get a reminder to come get the trash the hold reason for them getting up and going to work this morning TO PICK UP TRASH!!! I not sure why they need to be reminded to do their job. Save ur time and look elsewhere!!!!!!!! read more

The folks picking up the trash are awesome - prompt and very cautious to make sure nothing is dropped or left behind. A 'boss' in their Napoleon Office is not Customer Service oriented. They would have gotten 5 Stars, but sadly they do not offer recycling services for our area. read more

How can I give less than one star. This company is horrible. They don't pick up your trash on the day they say and they lie to you every day until the next week that they will pick it up today. I went with another company. read more

After yet another price increase, I changed services. I'm saving $130 a year with the new service. A month after stopping service, I'm still waiting for them to pick up their trash cart. I called to remind them it was still here and was told they had already picked it up. Really? In my mind, I still have an 80 gal trash cart in my driveway. The receptionist told me they will "try to pick it up this week. But no guarantees. " customer service? Nope. Just expensive prices. .. read more

I have had major problems with this company on a prior account (a second residence) which they promised to refund a quarter of service that I paid for, but did not receive service for. I have e-mails of this conversation which I shared with the BBB. They have gone back on their word and refused to reply to a BBB complaint. I cancelled that account. I also called their Brooklyn office on May 24th and cancelled my primary residence and also e-mailed their Brooklyn office on June 2nd to remind them that I had cancelled this account and needed to have my tote picked up and billing amended. I got a billing reminder on June 8th for the full quarter. I called the company's 800 service (Prairieland Disposal LLC) on June 11th and was told that my primary residency account was never closed and my service was still active. Meaning that my two requests to the Brooklyn office were not followed though on for some reason. I asked them to cancel again! I am beyond frustrated with this business. Very poor customer service. read more

I've used this company for 8 years and I had no idea they were recently purchased by another company. I've tried calling for 3 weeks....over 14 times and never was able to reach anyone. Worst company that I have ever dealt with. Evert 2 weeks it's a hassle to get them to pick up my trash. I pay for every 2 weeks and some times it's 4 weeks between pick up. Phone calls to the office go no where except empty promises and excuses. If you can use another company, avoid this one. read more

we have had Modern Waste Systems as a provider for years. Stating with the pandemic, their service began to falter. late (or no) pickups multiple times due to truck breakdown, weather, or you name it. We have been tolerant and never complained. they also stopped offering curb side recycling and instead, just stuff our recyclables in the general trash (reduced services). For our loyalty and understanding, we get a bill increasing our rate by over 47% ($46.80 to $69) for no increase in service. When I called for an explanation, I was told that "we sent out a notice of the increase and we are still cheaper than our competitors". My neighbor and I saw no letter, must have gotten lost in the mail. Their representative's attitude did nothing for their image, IMO. This is nothing short of PRICE FIXING and maybe someone should explain how they can jack up the prices without any reasonable explanation other than "we can". read more

Our service used to be awesome, but the change in owner has given us a company that is charging for service that they didn't give. Our trash can has been extremely full twice now. We regularly have a low amount of trash, so a trash can that can't even close didn't receive 2or 3 pickups that were paid for. They also don't answer phone calls. Today I have up over about 12 minutes holding. Ridiculous! read more

The customer service is absolutely horrible the ladies who answer the phone are super rude and no help whatsoever not to mention they delivered my bin to my neighbors house read more

i would not recommend this company for trash pickup. Two weeks in a row they did not pick up my trash. They also will not return my money after I canceled my service, because of some kind of policy. read more

Second week in a row they have not picked up the trash. Called her yesterday when I watched the truck go by without picking it up. She said she would care of it. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. Was transferred to this company when my original company went out of business. Modern Waste (Michiana/LRS)has several customers in my subdivision, however each and every time their truck drives past my residence and keeps on going. To make matters worse, ANOTHER truck drives through the sub (17 homes) later in the day 3-4pm time frame and drives past my residence with NO pickup. I then call their customer service line and get the same excuse, short of crews, truck problems. This has happened 4 times in the past 6 months. If anyone is reading this review, I'm going to help Modern Waste and recommend you find a different residential trash provider, because if they don't have enough crews or working trucks, they CERTAINLY do not want additional business. You're welcome Modern Waste!(Michiana/LRS) No accountability on why this keeps occurring, just the same excuses. I've called every number I can find affiliated with Modern Waste/Michiana/LRS and no one wants to call me back or answer the tough questions on why this continues to happen. October 4, 2023 UPDATE. Since leaving Modern Waste(Michiana/LRS)on September 15, I spoke with Heather and she stated I would be refunded my 4th quarter charges($81.74- since they auto drafted in the beginning of Sept for Oct/Nov/Dec) within 48 hours of canceling service. That was a flat out lie, they have made NO attempt at refunding my credit card as of Oct 4, 2023. I have disputed the charge with my cc and they are investigating and also issued me a credit. I have spoken with Visa and they have sent numerous requests to Modern Waste/Michiana/LRS (bank) with no correspondence recieved back. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Again, for anyone looking for a residential waste hauling company, look else where. read more

The incompetence of Modern Waste is off the charts, I called twice a week for 4 weeks trying to get trash pickup, no one was able to help me, they had no record of my address, I had to prove to them they service my area. I finally "think" I got trash pick up started but no, I call, the people are so rude, when I got upset (I didn't use any curse words for the record)she hangs up on me, I call back, I can't get a word in, she goes on & on about how she's trying to help me & hangs up on me again. Very unorganized, rude, & extremely unprofessional. read more

I first called February 1st due to my garbage can disappearing. My garbage can was there at 7am when my daughter went to work but when I got up at 10am it was gone. I was told they would bring me a new garbage can. Two days later Friday I had still not received my garbage can so I called and talked to Summer. She was very rude when talking to me stating they would not offer a refund for the days I will be without a garbage can as they will not deliver a new one until Tuesday, stated they were allowed a week to get me a new one. I was also told it was not their fault my can was gone and to stop accusing them of such action. I would not recommend if they are going to treat you with such indignity. read more

This is the only waste company that does pick up where we live but they are unreliable and have terrible customer service. Our trash is missed more than once a month and had to get an extra bin just so we have somewhere to put the trash because they don't consistently pick up the trash, and when it's missed they can't give a timeframe or day that it will be picked up and it may not get picked up at all until the next regular pick up day! read more

The company is a joke. I pay for trash pick up weekly for my tenants, this seems easy enough, they take their payment every month. Your company is a sham, your workers are the worst. I wish I had another option I would pay more for anyone else. read more

TERRIBLE! called on two occasions to speak with customer service. The customer service reps were rude and obnoxious. One of the reps got smart with me and hung up in my face. The recycling drop off in Napoleon is HORRIBLE! It is always muddy and filthy, a complete disaster. My elderly mother always tries to recycle but I am scared to death that she will slip in the mud that is ALWAYS surrounding the bins. Would it be that difficult to dump some gravel around the bins? Seriously! My husband takes her recycling in because we worry so much about her falling in your mudhole. Please clean it up! read more

I have been a customer for many many years. Never had any problems til about a year ago when they just stopped putting my container back in its rightful place & just left it nearly in the road. When I came home, I had to drive past my place about a mile to turn around so I could get in my driveway WITHOUT running over the container. It HAS WHEELS! Why is it SO HARD for that YOUNG person to wheel it 6 more feet to its spot? I hesitate to say "man" instead of boy because they are all OBVIOUSLY very immature. They only take 2 things for recycling now too & THAT is VERY inconvenient to me. Jackson is going backwards.I realize these guys are probably not even high scholl graduates but their problem is, they are obviously NOT TRAINED.THAT is the EMPLOYERS fault. I'm REAL CLOSE to canceling my account with them because of these aforementioned problems read more

First, I'd like to say that until this week, I've been a customer for 23 years. Why did I quit Modern Waste Systems? Simple . . . . I want to do business with a company that wants my business. After not picking up the garbage on our street, I called the company to complain. Their response was, "... uh, are you sure we didn't pick it up?" Yes, I'm sure. (It's still on the curb three days later.) If you're not going to pick it up, just say so . . . but don't deny not picking it up. There are lots of companies around that want my money. I'll choose one that's more responsive to customer concerns. read more

If I could give this place a zero star, I would. The customer service is terrible. They do not care about us or our concerns. They are the only company that serves in our area, so they do not care at all. I called the company to ask about the extra charges and the lady who helped me on the phone was angry at the start like she does not want to help at all and asked me what is your question? She was very rude and did not want to help per her tone and also during my question she was cutting me off and said I would have to put you on hold. Who does that? That was very rude and disrespectful. If she does not want to help customers, why does she work in this field? Then after a long hold, she came back to me and said she didn't know what I wanted from her. That was very unprofessional and unhelpful. The company including herself could do better. At least try to be professional instead of being angry at the customers. That is awful and it sucks that we stuck with this company. If you have options, I highly recommend you to do business with the other companies that is not this one. read more
