I am from Kansas City and was in town for our son's DU graduation weekend for his Masters in International Human Rights and Masters in Global Social Work. I was tired of the velcro coming apart in my sandals. The strap on my adjustable sandal was about 1" too long so not enough of the velcro was sticking together. I was always walking out of my sandals and had enough. I couldn't find a decent, reliable shoe repair near out home in Kansas City and came across Modern Shoe Repair in Google. The reviews there were fantastic so I decided to give them a try. They didn't disappoint. There was no hesitation by Daniel that they could be done and helped to determine the exact amount to be shortened. I brought them in on a Thursday morning and they are ready that afternoon. I'm so very glad that I brought my Taos sandals to them to adjust. No more adjusting- readjusting- walking out of my sandals! read more

Unbelievably rude customer service, decided to take my business elsewhere when I was basically dismissed upon first walking in

I has shoes that I thought were destined for the trash and somehow MSR was able to bring them back to life and make them look nearly brand new. Definitely pricey, but 100% worth every penny. read more

You know that pair of shoes you buy on an impulse and then end up wearing for an entire season? We all have that experience, right? Imagine when said pair of shoes (or sandals in my case) has a strap that breaks, rendering them useless... the worst! Enter Modern Shoe Repair, located down the street and around the corner from my alterations business of choice: Erol's Tailoring. This nook of Cherry Creek is perfect if you need something fixed: your clothes, your shoes -- even your face with several medical spas in the area. For $29.99, Modern Shoe Repair re-attached the strap on my sandals, which was a fraction of the price for which I paid for the shoes initially. And once the temperatures warm up, they will be out in broad daylight once again. Side note: Customers must pay in advance. There's a sign posted behind the counter and the guys will also make it very clear. read more

Tried them once and will not return. I brought in two pairs of loafers to have plastic heel and toe taps applied. He tried to upsell me on an entire sole cover and I declined. --why buy leather soled shoes if you're going to cover them in rubber-- When I declined, he was overtly annoyed but said okay. I picked them up a couple days later and was blown away that each tap was $15. Okay, my fault for not asking in advance, so I paid and moved on. After a while when wishing to wear one of the pairs of shoes, I noticed that one of the heel taps was improperly seated and that he bent one of the nails used to affix the tap. So, I had to take it elsewhere to have it removed and a new one added. Not only are his prices extraordinarily high, he does a terrible job. There are various other cobblers in Denver. I suggest patronizing one of them. read more

Solid. I had a few mins to spare so stopped by here to get a pair of high heels recapped. I don't have a "before" pic but the heel caps had worn down to the nails and I was sliding all over work. Went in and the middle aged guy (owner?) said he could fix them right there if I had 5-ish mins to spare. Brought them back out and the heels were good as new! $16-ish and I was in and out in about 10 mins. Shop is downstairs; parking is in the back. I would return with more boots and stuff. Not sure if I'd bring my suede Jimmy Choo's after reading someone's experience with brush marks on their Prada shoes; the brush marks seem to be "standard" as I saw a pair of red suede fancy sneakers that also had the brush marks. read more

TLDR: the store employees misplaced my special insoles for my flats, the owner and his employee gaslighted me about it at length, and to add injury to the insult, they did a poor job on my handbag repair. The employee asked me not to give a bad review. I walked without being charged because they recognized they were in the wrong at the end of it all. Note: I did not ever ask for it despite all the tumult they inflicted. Avoid. Do not take your repairs here. Unbelievably bad first-time experience. Go to any other cobbler in Denver. I noticed this shop only had 4 star reviews and a lot of what I felt during my interactions is echoed by other low ratings. If you see smoke, there's probably a fire. I will not be returning and I encourage others to not support this shop. I dropped off shoes and a cognac leather handbag last Tuesday, May 9, 2023. I interacted with the owner/head repairman of the repair shop during this walk-in. I felt he was short and gruff. Almost like he was annoyed that I was requesting services. I did not take it personally at that time, willing to write it off as just his way and remembering others' reviews that described this exact attitude. I also was surprised at the price quote, but I didn't say anything about it and was willing to pay without shopping around. This is important. I came by for pick-up on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. I saw the insoles to my flats were missing. I asked about them and the employee shuffled a bit and did a small check to find them, calling the owner/head repairman on his smartphone. Together, they insisted they never had the insoles and would have never misplaced them. The owner claimed he himself had repaired them and never saw the insoles. The employee put the owner on speakerphone. They claimed I had to have left the insoles at home and I should check. The employee repeatedly called me "nervous and shaking". I heard the owner repeatedly lie that he remembered me because I had been fishing for a cheaper price and that I never had the insoles in the shop. I did no such thing. I knew I had dropped off my shoes with the insoles inside. I asked the employee to stop telling me that I was "nervous" and to not tell me how I felt. I told him I was "mad that the owner is repeatedly lying". That I was upset that I had already felt the "price was high and now the shop lost my insoles". The employee continued to gaslight me, asking, "Why would we do such a thing?" They wanted to make me out to be a difficult Karen rather than an innocent customer who refused to be gaslighted. They realized I was standing up for what I knew was true, and tried to compromise by saying they would look harder and would mail me replacement insoles after 2 days. The employee stubbornly kept telling me I was "nervous" and that I had to look for the insoles at my home over and over and over and that I should be charged over the phone if the insoles were found. I rebuffed this several times, but even as the door swung shut on my way out, he said it AGAIN, just to have to have the last word. Shortly thereafter, I received a call that the employee found the misplaced insoles. I missed my bus back home to double back and collect them (two hour wait for the direct bus line, so they honestly ruined my plans too). We agreed to no charge, which I did not ask for, ever. The employee apologized. However, I was so disturbed at how I was treated and horrified at how much I had to fight back at these two men. I was embarrassed at how much I was triggered by them, having to speak up so hard when I least expected to have to defend myself and my memory and what I knew was true. The owner even claimed to his employee that there was supposedly a third man involved who had misplaced the insoles. Yet the owner had said that he remembered me asking for a less expensive repair and he had worked on them himself. No matter what, the owner was lying about multiple details and had an attitude throughout this whole mess of his own making. His employee, whether family or friend, is his bulldog and insisted the owner was a "nice man" no matter how many times I warned him that other reviews exist that do not reflect this. I let him know that I was infuriated and shocked. I told the employee that I wasn't angry with him, that I was mad at the situation where the owner repeatedly lied and fed the employee bad information. However, I slept on it and do realize I am equally indignant at how this employee gaslighted me and made me feel like I was a terrible, high-strung customer who didn't know her own mind. They didn't look hard enough and refused to believe me. Between him and the owner accusing me of bad character and poor memory, their behaviors ruined my day. I remain shaken. I never make a scene and pay set prices. Don't trust this shop. Don't give them your business. read more

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE customer service. He seemed too sleepy or disinterested in speaking to me.

Terrible job done on my LV tote bag like a botched facelift - I don't trust them to fix the job they did and refuse to go back. Look elsewhere if you value your leather goods! read more

Quality of work is great! Unsure of all the negative reviews on pricing...if you think it's too expensive when he initially tells you the price you do have the option to say no thank you...anyways, I was recommended to modern shoe repair to put protective soles on my bottom of my heels to avoid them being scuffed & scratched and he did an amazing job. I wore the heels the next day and it worked so well. I definitely will be back and recommend this spot. read more

The WORST experience I have ever had. Firstly, the owner provided my husband with the incorrect claim tag and my shoes were "lost" until the owner came in to locate the shoes. Secondly, my $700 Prada and $600 Jimmy Choo's completely ruined. Over the past 40 years I have had suede shoes cleaned to perfection, I chose this shop based on the reviews, particularly for luxury brands. Now, I have two pairs of ruined shoes with permanent striping in the suede from cleaning. In all my years, I have never had permanent damage on any suede. The service was horrible, the shoes are ruined, not much more to say other than stay away. Updated: I have received comments that the shoes do not look impacted. Therefore, let me be clear: Prada suede does NOT have permanent lines on it even if you rub the suede lightly with your finger. While there are shadows created, they are not permanent. These shoes were harshly cleaned with a suede brush that left permanent striping as a result. The lines in the pictures are not just shadows, they are forever embedded striping due to the lack of care during the cleaning process and damage caused to the suede. This shows the lack of understanding of expensive shoes as a new pair of these have luxurious delicate Italian suede that is not this dark in color and covered in stripes created from a suede brush. The fact that the company attempts to indicate there is nothing wrong shows their lack of experience, and it also shows that we would have to purchase a new pair and bring them to the store for a side by side comparison. read more

I've had my favorite pair of boots worked on at this place and they do fantastic work! I found that the re-soling was better quality than the ones my Frye boots originally had. Very expensive! Make sure you ask how much your repair is before he does it! He charged me $30 to replace a zipper on a snow boot!

I ruined a pair of Stuart Weitzman black Leather booties. I've never invested in repairing $500 boots but I assume $100 is around what it should cost for the level of messed up these shoes were. Wow, I just picked up some Birkenstock clogs that I dropped off a week ago and they look terrible. I came here two years ago for a repair to my Ugg boots and they did a great job on them so I expected they would do a great job on my Birkenstock's since it's an easier job. But no. They butchered them! They went from a soft beautiful tan color to hard, with white streaks! I saw a similar review a woman left about her Prada's but figured my shoes would be okay. I'm grateful this didn't happen to my $600 Prada's but it sucks that my nice Birkenstock's have been taken care of so poorly. I will never come back here again. I suggest you stay away. read more

I came here because I was referred by Neiman Marcus. I moved to the area not too long ago and needed to find an experienced and trustworthy shoe cobbler for my heels. I needed my heel tips changed on a few of my louboutins ASAP. It took Mark about 10-15 minutes to do 2 pairs and they look perfect! The tips are even better than the original. I need to bring a pair of Jimmy Choos to be stretched and can't wait to do so! Glad to find this cobbler! read more

This man is incredible! I'd been willing to throw away some Prada's for a long time now due to a nasty stink. I know that's gross, but hey - they're old shoes I just couldn't bear to part with! Enter - Modern Shoe Repair! He was able to cut out and replace the stinky inserts with new ones! I know this probably doesn't sound like rocket science to anyone here, but I've only ever had soles and tips redone on my shoes or heels so it never occurred to me that they could do this. I practically have a new set of shoes and don't have to throw out my favorite black ballerina shoes! He also did great work on repairing my husband's cowboy boots that were in pretty rough shape. I think I've found my go-to cobbler, although some of the negative comments from other Yelpers worry me. I'll definitely have to keep my eye on that even though I didn't experience what others have mentioned. read more

First off, the young gentlemen who works the front there is terrific. That said, I have not had a good experience here, and I gave them a couple changes. I had a nice pair of boots that needed resoled. The resoled them, but the soles started to come off in a couple weeks. I took them back and thought I'd give them another try because they are close and believe in second chances. This time, in addition to fixing the soles that were poorly put on, I asked for some stitching on one of the boots. Within 10 days the stitching they did was worthless. While I do wear the boots about three times a week, I expected more longevity out of what I purchased. I did by some footpads and had them fix a backpack I owned, and those did hold up. All in all though, I don't intend to return here. read more

Update: sole needed to be glued back on. The main person was happy to do so, told me to bring it back and he'd do it for free. But when I went back with the shoe, another guy was there, tall, skinny fella, who argued non-stop with me that they couldn't have repaired the sole, maybe the heel, no way he'd it free as it wasn't their fault, and he'd have to keep the shoe and check with his boss. I mean, yelling at me. When I reached to recover the shoe, he wouldn't let go and tried to keep it. Cray cray. Original: Superb job on full leather soles and new heels for $58 with a 20% discount coupon. V impressed as a first-time customer. read more

I was torn to try this place after hearing multiple bad reviews about the service, but settled with poor service so long as I received high quality repair. Unfortunately that was not the case. As you'll notice I do not review often - but this experience warranted the effort. I took a very worn pair of cowboy boots in for revival, nothing but polish had been applied to the toe area, without any apparent work performed on the top part of the boot, I could have polished the toe myself for far less. The other pair of shoes I turned in for service were wingtip oxfords that needed re-soled, healed, polished & conditioned. These are all but ruined after their service. Their abilities could not match the original craftsmanship of the out sole, so was instead replaced with a winter - rubber lugged out sole that does not fit the shoe in any form. Unfortunately, the black glue/substance that was used is now marked all over the upper (light brown leather) and I am uncertain it can cleaned off. Looking at the remainder of the work - the seams and new materials, it is apparent that quality and detail were not of consideration during this performance. While you will read many negative reviews of their service and abilities, the poor craftsmanship and effort that Modern Shoes puts into their craft could not be understated. Denver does not offer a lot of options for quality shoe repair, but I would not chance your shoes with this establishment. read more

They do a great job here. From Gucci to those well worn leather boots to my cherished Italian purse, they've taken wonderful care of a variety of needs here. I was very pleased with my service. I had 2 designed leather purses repaired and 2 purses cleaned, and 3 pairs of leather shoes repaired and cleaned. Turnaround was quick, materials used were great, and the finished product was "like new" for all 7 items. I had a few really bad water stains on one of my leather saddle bags, and they truly were able to diminish the damage and the purse looks great! I initially gawked at the $220 price tag, but this is a bargain vs. buying a new purse or a couple pairs of shoes. I will definitely be returning! read more

Top quality old-world craftmanship! Mark did a fantastic job dyeing some expensive Italian leather shoes. His skill set doesn't come cheap but the price he charged was worth every penny. I wouldn't hesitate patronizing his store again. Highly recommended! read more

I've been to many shoe repair shops in Denver (and in other cities) and Modern Shoe Repair is by far the best! Every repair is exactly as I ask for, and looks better than I expected. I do a lot of heel replacements (perhaps I walk funny?) and Mark uses the BEST materials! I also like that they don't do more than I ask and then charge extra. If I ask for a heel replacement, I get a heel replacement. If I want them to polish and shine, I'll ask for it. I've been to other shops that quote for replacement, and then polish them, possibly changing the color, contrary to my liking, and then charging me more. No bueno. Mark is honest, prices reasonably, and does flawless work. read more

I have come to Modern Shoe Repair for the last 8 - 10 years! I drive from Lakewood now because I love them and wouldn't go anywhere else. I love this shoe repair I wanted my shoes shined and fixed from it being ripped and when I got it back it was amazing!

This place has the worse customer service ever! I could not believe how badly I was treated by the owner Mark. I took a bag in to get the zipper fixed. Mark told me it would need to be replaced ($80) and could not be repaired ($15). So we payed the $80 to get a new zipper. A month later we used the bag for the first time and in the middle of our trip the zipper broke again in the exact same spot as before. We took a closer look and realized that the zipper had not actually been replaced! I took the bag back and explained the situation to Mark. I still can not believe how disrespectful he was towards me. First he told me I must be confused and must be in the wrong store because he did not remember me or the bag. After convincing him I new where I was, he then agreed with me that the zipper had not been replaced and that it was the manufacturers zipper. He said that he must have only charged me for a repair and he would only replace the zipper for free if I showed proof that I paid $80. To his surprise, I pulled out my credit card statement showing the $80 transaction. After I showed the proof, he then said that he still wasn't going to replace the zipper because I couldn't prove that it was the manufacturers zipper. He said that even if it broke in the same spot, it is probably something I am doing wrong, just like if he repaired a pair of shoes for me and they kept breaking then it must be because of the way I walk! At this point I had enough and was starting to feel really uncomfortable in the shop. I told him I did not want to work with someone who was unethical and did not stand by his work and that I was leaving. He then took the bag and finally said he would replace the zipper and then added that he never wanted me in the store again ( like I would actually want to go back!). I just walked away. I don't write reviews often but really wanted to warn people about the customer service and poor quality of work. I can not believe how bad Mark treats his customers! Do not go here! read more

I brought my leather boots in to be re-soled and after wearing them maybe 5 times the sole on the right boot fell off. I brought it back in and he put the sole back on "free of charge" (thanks bud), but I had to wait a whole week for them to do this. Two days after I picked up the right boot the left boots sole fell off. I called him and he was extremely rude to me. Told me he didnt have time to keep helping me out and he'd charge me this time, it'd take a week and a half, and that it's not his fault. I calmly expressed to him that he needs to fix the soles he JUST put on and that I originally paid $40 to have on there forever. He again told me it's not his fault, I must have tore it off somehow, and that he doesnt have time to help me. I let him know that's awful customer service, and I will not return. Their work seems to be careless (having it fall apart after very light use) and I don't appreciate being yelled at. read more

rude, condescending, took a very simple repair and did it incorrectly twice. told me it was stained so it didn't matter that they'd done it wrong again, tried to tell me i hadn't really paid 30 for the repair, fought me on redoing it the correct way because it would leave visible holes in the purse from their incorrect stitching. eventually convinced them to refund me and undo it, which they did, but they had cut away part of the leather of the handmade purse that I got in italy, and scuffed / ripped other parts of the handle. had to go somewhere else and pay to get it patched and sewn. went in four separate times in total, and ended up with a purse far worse off than it had been previously. i haven't ever written a review before but that is how bad the experience was, and i wish that I had read more reviews before taking a purse i really loved here. read more
