I called about 10 asphalt companies to give me a price, a lot were out of my price range including Sam's (Modern Paving) I always ask if they can do better on price some take 500. off and some say that's the price. To me as I was in business for myself and if I gave a price to a customer and they couldn't do it I would work with them even if it means cutting my profit margin. Because making another customer smile is whats being in business is all about. Money is not everything. Plus that customer will tell a friend etc This is what Sam did for me. He gave me a price, I told him it was out of my budget and he wasn't leaving until he could get me as a customer and I feel he was very eager to make me happy and get my business. He lowered his price but it was still A little higher then I could afford. So I went with the cheaper guy . This was in August. The other guy told me I'll be there Monday he never showed up. I called numerous times and always got an excuse or he say I'll be there next week. Bla bla bla. Well, it's November and still no driveway I called him back 1 last time why, because it's was 2000 cheaper then Sam's final quote He said he would be there Monday, no show lol. Well I called Modern Paving Tuesday he came on Wednesday to refresh his mind and go over what I wanted. He showed up at 3:30 as planned we went over everything and said he will be here tomorrow. And it would be done tomorrow!! He came and I'll tell you something he went above and beyond to satisfy me. The driveway is 30' wide and no seems! Because he took the extra time to do it by man power versus the machine. which I was going to get with the other guy. And it would of looked terrible. Some people get worried about how Sam is so eager to get the job, some would call it desperate But he is a dying breed people, someone in business who wants to work with you to get what you want done. It's priceless. I highly recommend Sam over anyone. He was not the lowest but not the highest either. Bottom line he gave me a warranty in writing 1.5 yrs!! A desperate business man don't give that! At the beginning of 2024 our homeowners insurance suggested that we have the cracks filled in on our walkways and our one car parking spot and our 2 car parking spot. We called Sam at Modern Paving who came to our Taunton home to give us an estimate. He talked us into re-paving all of our asphalt and although his price was a little steep, it sounded like he knew what he was doing so we gave him the job, to the tune of $9,980.00. On 3/4/2024 they came to do the job we gave him a check made out to him and not to the company. It really looked good when they were done. None of the old asphalt was remove because nothing was crumbling so they re-paved over the old material. Fast forward one year later, I noticed that there was a couple of cracks in the new asphalt. I called Sam and he stopped by to look at it. He told us that he could "fix" the cracks and that we should have a seal coat put on. We agreed and on 3/24/2025 we gave him another check to the tune of $3,000.00 made out to him and not to the company. He brought his worker over and supposedly "fixed" the cracks and put down the seal coat. Fast forward once again. Here we are on February 15, 2026 and the cracks are back again! This time, I will fill in the cracks myself. We NEVER want to see him on our property again. And as far as his "advertisement sign" that he left here a year ago, it's going in the recycle bin. We called and asked him to pick up his sign twice, always making that promise that he would stop by for it but never showing up. Perhaps he never showed up because the work that he does doesn't hold up to what he charges. We've given him a total of $12,980.00 from our savings. He should be ashamed of the business that he does and especially doing it to senior citizens!! read more

Had my driveway replaced approximately 2 year's ago by this company. Gave me an unbelievable price to redo my driveway while they were working across the street. Long story short 2 year's later my driveway is cracking all over the place! They took the old asphalt off but never took out the big rocks that destroyed my driveway in the first place. Bottom line it was like putting lipstick on a pig. Good for a minute but I will be replacing it again in a few years! I would not recommend this company! Sam and his team did great work start to finish. I was lucky enough to be home for everything and Sam would take time out to bring me outside and walk me through every step of the process and make sure I was happy through and through. My drive way is especially steep with more than a few awkward landscaping features to work around. Would absolutely recommend him to anyone that needs paving and asphalt done. read more

The guy that came out was the nicest guy you could meet. On the outside! I gave him the specs and he left. The day he showed up for the service, he texted me saying the measurements were wrong and he needed more asphalt. I said ok and left it at that. Low and behold he skimmed on the asphalt at the end of my driveway. The driveway is now 5 years old, I've had it sealed twice and it still looks like garbage. The worst thing about it is I recommended him to my parents. I've had sealers and pavers tell me the job he did was crap. That's all you need to know. read more

Seemed like an honest company looking to just get rid of some blue stone. "Sam" and a coworker pulled up to our house when we were outside and called me over after scoping out our house. He started talking about crushed bluestone as if he was just looking to get rid of some. Said he would do 1$ per squared foot and after asking for a quick estimate he said we would need to do some paperwork. I just had Modern Paving replace my driveway. They did an excellent job! The whole crew was nice, respectful and worked very hard. They removed my existing driveway and replace it with a much larger one. They even did my walkway. The prices were extremely reasonable. One morning in April Samuel Stanley (Sam) of Modern Paving knocked on our door and asked us about our driveway, which was visibly in terrible need of repair. The Modern Paving crew was in our neighborhood, and Sam's job is to keep his men working in one area as much as possible. While initially hesitant of the process, redoing and widening our driveway was a desire of mine for the past few years, so I heard Sam out. He slowly and clearly explained the process: that would completely rip up the old driveway, excavate the new area to make it wider, level the entire area, pour a thick layer of asphalt, and level it with his rollers in both directions so as to better compact the seal. He also assured us that he would lay asphalt right up to our stone-paver walkway and flower beds, so that it would lock in the stones and make it look like it was always there. He also then guaranteed that his crew would be done by 5pm. Still somewhat skeptical, I took a ride past my neighbors house (whose driveway his crew was currently working on), and his crew was following the procedure he described. Upon returning home and discussing it with my wife, we decided to go for it. Sam worked with us on the final price that was mutually acceptable to both parties. Having had the finished product for well over two-months now, my wife and I are truly happy with the job! The driveway looks beautiful, smoothly transitions to our stone-walkway and is plenty wide for our two cars. Months later we still get compliments on how the job looks. Moreover, there are no cracks, divots, etc., and even if there were, he guaranteed the work for a year. Also, the crew started the job at noon, and they were done at 3:30pm -- it was pretty amazing! We stayed off the driveway for a full week (7 days) after it was laid down, and have had no problems with it. We are very thankful and happy we went with Sam and Modern Paving. I didn't have the same great experience as a lot of you. First of all the man Sam is psychodic. Not sure on that spelling. He calls me ten times a day for a job that I told him I would call him when I am ready. So he did the job on an hourly rate. After telling him I wanted him to work only eight hours he worked ten hours and at 200.00 an hour that adds up. The next day he worked the eight and begged me for payment right away. I am a contractor and I wont get paid from the client for atleast 30 days or more but had some money coming so I said yes. I deposited a check I had gotten for 18,000 and my bank put a hold on it but cleared 3,000 so I could make payroll and feed my family and put gas in my cars over the weekend. Even though I told Sam I would call him and meet him tomorrow at the end of the day and give him a check he bothered me all day with phone calls. I texted him after each call and said " I said I would meet you at the end of the day and give you a check" So I met him near my hometown Easton and he asked if I could make the check out to him personally so he could not pay taxes. I said that is against the law and if I did that I would pay the taxes on it. The only way I could do it was to send him a 1099. He agreed. I asked him I will do it but don't go to my bank and cash the check because I only have enough in there to make payroll just deposit or cash at your bank. He said no problem and literally as I pulled out of the parking lot he was on the phone finding out the address of my bank. He went and cashed the check and left me with no money for payroll and no money for myself. All he had to do was go to his bank because the two day hold my bank had on my check would have cleared by the time the check got there. My guys went to cash their checks and they bounced. I texted him told him what I thought of him because he was too much of a coward to answer the phone. First time he has never answered the phone when I called him. So good work or not he is a bad man. Beware. And the crazy part is he probably would have done 100,000 dollars with me next year. Hope it was worth it idiot. read more
