Always happy with my nails from here. I have been coming here for over a year and recommend the Tap Gel manicure. T, Michelle, & James always make my nails look perfect!

I have been going to Modern Nails for a few months for my manicures and I would not go anywhere else in Santa Barbara; if you are looking for somewhere to go, this is definitely the place. They always do a great job! My nails have never been healthier and longer. They also offer really cool enhancements such as chrome and cat eye polish, so I have been able to try a few different things and every time it has been great. I have also had amazing service from everyone I have encountered here and they are very hard working. Always have availability either for walk ins or for appointments. Thank you!

Had Anthony do gel mani today and I've already been here a few times and he is always great!!! Also everyone else is really great as well! Got a pedicure and feel so much better after my visit at modern nails! they accept walk in's which make it easy to come by and get a mani & pedi done quick. Vibes are always good too as all staff is friendly and welcoming. Thank youuuu

Back again! For years I have been on the hunt for a go to nail salon and I think I finally found it. After paying away too much on a mani pedi a friend recommended Modern Nails to me. She spoke very highly of them. They have fair prices and the service is 5 star! This is my second time back and I'm excited to finally have a go to nail salon. Pro tip: Bring cash, they don't take card. However they do have an ATM in the back if you don't have time to get cash before your appointment! read more

This is the best nail salon in SB ! The owner is lovely... very nice professional and courteous! Sky does an excellent gel nail.!! Fast and they stay perfect for 3-4 weeks!!! Did my nails very fast is probably my only positive. I came in for a gel manicure, kelly told me to do dip which I agreed to and when I asked for tips she said no. Proceeded to cut my fingers 4 times and was using used/dirty tools on my hands so I am not super pleased with that. Then sprayed alcohol on all of the cuts and smeared oil full of nail dust on the back of my hand. Wouldn't go here again, not very clean and not very careful read more

This was my Favorite Nail place for many years until they were rude to Grace Fisher and i had a horrible experience with a very inexperienced technician and he was actually very rough and hurting me. He cut my skin multiple times and I was clearly in pain and the owner/manager could see what was happening from a far and did nothing. I told her he was hurting me and then she looked down at her clients nails and continued working. She clearly was watching my reaction and ignored me. Never again will I go back! So sad this was my favorite for many years. Has completely gone down hill, ever since the remodel. Quality of service and increased pricing is a joke. read more

I was very disappointed today when I went in for a gel mani. Most of the time I'm happy when I leave but today I was upset with my mani. my nails look the exact same as when I came in. my cuticles are a mess and my nails are rough on the edges. The manicurist over buffed my nails and ended up on my fingers. Owww! And I told that hurt twice. She never looked up, no apology, just kept going. she did a horrible job! I paid $75 plus tip. I usually leave a minimum of 20% but I left 10% and it bothered me because I know they depend on their tips. But I was ready to stiff her. Worst mani experience ever! read more

Worst pedicure I've ever had. It's hit or miss, I've had great pedicures there but then I have had the same gal 2xs that hardly down a 60 second massage. Full pedicure took less then 30 minutes. Rushed and rough. Won't be coming back read more

This place is great. I went in for a gel pedicure and I was pumped-- the attention to detail, this wasn't a sloppy rush job that lasted 1 week-- they still look awesome 2 weeks later. The massage was lovely, normally I'm like yeah sure whatever, but it was super nice to get rubbed on for a second. They seem to have every color of dip one could imagine, so if that's ur game, I would highly recommend coming here!! Will be back! read more

Modern nails was awesome enough to take me in last minute and I'm so glad I was introduced to David who did my nails! David went above and beyond when taking care of my nails. I showed him a reference picture and I think he did so much better than my reference picture! I did dip powder over my natural nails and David picked out the natural nail color and suggested great things. He listened to everything I said and he is super sweet to converse with. I'm most definitely coming back and I think everyone should too!! 12/10 would recommend! read more

The place does a decent job, but for the price ($40 for a regular pedi) I wish there was a little more. My feet didn't really soak long enough and the service was just so quick. Would have liked a little more pampering for the price. The workers are very kind and helpful though. read more

Was in search of a new nail salon since I just moved here and the service was great. The place is clean, bright, and has a nice selection of colors. Went to get a pedicure and my toes turned out great. Only downside is it's a bit pricey, and the service was done very fast. Great for an in and out experience but not for sitting and relaxing. read more

Guy is the best, highly recommend him for all your nail needs! I have extremely thin nails and he always takes his time and they come out amazing. Unfortunately I just moved out of state, but I was going there for months and fear I won't find somebody as good as Guy! I've done Gel X here once or twice, but was able to grow out my natural nails and do powder gel for the last couple of months. I read more

Been going here a while. I love it. Love everyone there. No price surge for the amazing quality. Clean environment. Seriously love it. But I've never felt such an urge to write a review. I've gotten my nails done by many different people there, Mary was always amazing, not just cause she has the same name as me ;) but last night, not only did I get THE BEST acrylic dip set I've ever gotten, but I had the best conversion with Eric. It was so refreshing and fun. Please give them business. Ask for Eric, tip him well. Or anyone else for that matter. :) read more

This nail salon is one of the best I have found in Santa Barbara! I have been here twice now and both times I have came here I was able to get service right away. I have gotten gel manis and regular pedis both have lasted for around 3-4 weeks which I think is a great amount of time! Their prices are fair for Santa Barbara and I always love how my nails look afterwards! This makes it worth it to me. They really care about how you want your nails to look and make sure that everything looks perfect. If you don't like your nails you can let them know and they will fix them for you. They have a huge selection of gel nail colors to choose from which is great! They even have the matching normal colors to match the gel color if you only want to gel as your mani. Overall I really like coming to this because of their friendly staff, great service, and all of their beautiful gel colors! :) read more

I went in for a last minute appointment because my usual spot was overbooked and I needed my nails done for a wedding. Oh boy, so bad.. the nails are bumpy and oddly shaped, it's honestly just really bad and I'm having them taken off first thing after the wedding. They charged us $75. I walked out of there with nails that looks like they already need a refill. The nails did their job for the night and looked fine from afar, but for $75 you can go to an upscale salon that serves you champagne instead. Not worth it. read more

Unsanitary conditions; please reconsider! I came in for a manicure and pedicure; staff is nice but quiet, facility is basic and very affordable. BUT...they reuse porous supplies between customers!!! They used an old, worn pumice to scrub callouses from my feet and reused nail file on my nails. I glanced at the station next to me and noticed the customer next to me was also getting her feet scrubbed with an old, worn pumice too! After my service, attendant loaded used tools on cart and went to next station....nothing was whisked away for sanitation. This is not sanitary as porous surfaces can transmit athletes foot, nail fungus and many other skin diseases. UGH! Please, please look after your health and pay extra for a place that uses new or sanitary supplies. I called them several days later, requesting their cosmetology license number and they refused to provide it. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE. Very rude establishment. I made an appointment and when I arrived they were running behind by at least 4 people. Never was I notified before coming in. When I finally sat down 20'mins after my appointment time, I notified the technician that I didn't want the electric drill used on my natural nails. I only wanted a nail file or buffer. She informed she couldn't possibly do my nails that way. I'm a cosmetologist myself and I know for a fact that drills are not approved for use on natural nails. She then proceeded to tell me that she would not do my nail service and essentially kicked me out. read more

I also asked for a dark purple color with no sparkle, and they kept bringing me light blues with sparkle, and trying to convince me to change my mind about the color that I wanted (which I don't understand their reasoning for this at all, and why it matters to them) and would not let me simply walk over to the polish wall to pick my own color. When my nail technician finally brought over a couple of dark purples, a secondary nail technician came over & started to have a conversation about the two polishes and whether they looked similar or not. This was all after I had very obviously quickly chosen a color. During the appointment, that second nail technician kept coming over and staring at my hands which was uncomfortable. Finally, when choosing the tip amount during payment, the receptionist brought the card reader over (rather than waiting for me to walk to the register) and put the screen directly in front of the technician and myself, and the technician was staring at the screen, watching what my tip selection was.

It seems like Modern Nails salon owner didn't get the point of this review at all. First she thought I was her employee who get terminate from her. Secondly she stated that she had never spoke to me at all. She had contradict her statement in the message that she sent. The purpose of this review is to let her know that there is a lot of people out there who may not look like Asian but they understand Vietnamese language very well and they didn't like the way she treat her poor staffs that came from Viet Nam. Her employees came to the US with no money and no formal training in English because they have to work to help family in Viet Nam. They can carry daily conversation with customers very well. She has miss treat her employees very poorly and using all kind of bad words in Vietnamese language. Once again she forget that she is living in the US and this is the place for opportunity. If she keeps using bad languages to her employees eventually she will not have any staffs work for her any more. Upon writing this review I 'm hoping that she will change the way she treat her staffs and treating her employees with respect. read more

I absolutely would not let anyone else give me a manicure/pedicure than my ladies (and gents) at Modern Nails. I have been going to them for about 20 plus years now. They have been a part of all of our families special occasions over all these years. From date nights and proms to the wedding prep for each of my daughters, we have always been more than pleased with the personal touch from each and every manicurist there. We have gone in with each weddings bridal party and family members and had a wonderful time sharing these special life moments.. Now we are into the third generation of clients...my granddaughter! Though she is only 3, it is a wonderful princess day that we can spend getting our nails done together. They are just as attentive with her as they are with me. I came here to get a silk wrap set put on I walked in and was immediately greeted by a wonderful and cheery staff. I did not have a appointment but was told to have a seat .Within 1 minute Lynn came out and immediately got to work.She did a wonderful job and even did air-brushing which no other nail salon in Santa Barbara does that I could find.This was back in November of 2010.I have been a regular customer since and I am always pleased with the wonderful staff. The girls there go above and beyond their service.Lynn and June and all the girls are wonderful and prompt.The salon also offers facials and waxing which I am eager to try.The salon is beautiful.The staff is excellent and always welcoming I highly recommend this salon to everyone I know and will continue to be a customer for years and years to come!!!!! read more

What a blessing Modern Nails Owner, Lynn is! I used to live in Santa Barbara 10 years ago. She handled all my mani-pedi needs. ALWAYS respectful, sanitary & attention to detail. During my travels thru town on several occasions, on my way to/ from the LA area, Lynn has used the "Silk Nail" process - WOW - I love it! Lasted 3 weeks before the first fill earlier this week. I have used acrylic on nails & toes for over 20 years. I have permanently converted to the silk process on my nails. No pulling or stinging or any pain. Lynn makes it look so light & natural w French manicure. Arrive early as parking @ peak lunch or dinner times is a challenge, but this is the BEST salon & spa - very much worth the effort. You guy do not request a lady name Nikki, she do her job very well fast and mess up a lot. She use Venmo app to request me to pick Nikki to do my nail. But she doesn't do a very good job on my nail. There one time I come in the store and I heard the worker there said she did not treat good with the new worker. The worker said that Nikki talk bad to the owner behind the new worker back, so the owner can fire the new worker. There a lot of new worker lost their job because of Nikki. I think the owner don't know that Nikki use Venmo app to request a lot of costumers, so the owner think Nikki is very good job because a lot of costumers want her to do their nail. I am licensed state barber for 49 years and I am still operating my business. The first time I came to this shop 7 years ago I came to check on the salon's presentation and sanitation. I was seated to do my manicure and pedicure twice a month for the past seven years and I am happy to say that everything that I have seen here is professional and courteous. The standard is lead by the owner and followed by the staff. I suspect that the review that I read was probably provoked by another salon whose idea was to minimize their competition. There is no competition against this salon. It constantly performs to its highest standard. read more

I disagree with the person who said bad things about the owner. The owner is a great person. Every time I come for a pedicure, they sit me down and give me the wi-fi like they read my mind. They give me the tray to put my laptop on too. I've been coming to Modern Nails for 15 years and I known the owner really well. I've never seen her say those bad words to her employees or treat them badly as the other person claimed she had. They also do a great job on my pedicure. I am a new client to Modern Nail Salon and was so pleasantly surprised that I could be so very delighted with the services on my first visit. I have never been happier with my nails!! Lynn does a fabulous job and I was so pleased I returned the following week for a pedicure. My previous pedicures at other salons were painful and I would end up with little sore spots or skin rubs from files. Lynn was so gentle and efficient that I had no issues at all. I do not understand why there would be negative comments made for Modern Nails Salon. I have been coming here to get my nails, manicure and pedicure service for over 12 years and I have had nothing but positive experiences. The manicurists are friendly and wonderful and I cannot say enough good things about the owner Lynn. I really like getting my nails done here. They are very good with walk-ins and the people there are good. However, there is not a lot of parking, and it makes me uncomfortable when I point at something to fix, they start specking their language. It almost feels like they are talking about you for complaining. But good nail work. read more
