Decided to give them another shot. I was by myself this time so I can't rate on the same basis as my previous review. Plus I only got a pedi. I was ushered in precisely at my appointment time and asked which type of pedi I would like. After choosing the basic level I was not asked again for any up sale (yeah). I noticed they still do not use a base coat (not sure if that's typical everywhere) but he did a very nice job and I was able to totally relax. Their policy of not taking tips on credit is frustrating since I normally do not carry cash. Overall I'm not sure if I'll visit them again but that is partially based on the tipping policy. Another salon may be more appropriate for my circumstance. read more

Asked for thin French tip nails to receive thick French tips. The nail extensions are crooked and throws off the nail and the acrylic has a lot of air bubbles. (Normally if there were color I wouldn't mind but since there is not it makes the nails look tacky.) The employee working on my nails proceeded to stop doing my service to pick out dirt from his nails, did not wash his hands afterwards. There was not much conversation between myself and the employee so I started looking around at the decorations on the back wall and shockingly saw an employee picking her nose. She did not wash her hands and received a customer shortly. For a 2 days after getting my nails done they were really sore and was so painful I needed to take medicine more than once, which has never happened to me before. Went back a few days later to ask for them to be redone due to the nails lifting after 4 days and was told by employee that she didn't see lifting and to come back another time. read more

I went to modern nails in midland to get my nails done with my friend before our vacation. I told the guy up front I wanted a full set of acrylics, and my friend said she wanted shellac on her nails. Long story short, they got us confused so when they started to put shellac on my nails, I told the lady i had told the guy I wanted acrylics so she slammed her hands down, rolled her eyes and yelled at me because I didn't correct her earlier, even though I stopped her as soon as she started to put the shellac on. she then proceeded to take off the shellac so aggressively with the drill that she made two of my cuticles bleed, and then rolled her eyes again and just walked away. The other guy told me that I was in the wrong. I corrected him that it was my friend that wanted the shellac and I wanted a full set when he realized what the mistake was he said "oh gotcha" and didn't even apologize. when the next girl came to do my tips, she was really rude at first as well, but as soon as she seen the blood on my cuticles from what the girl did prior, she began to be very soft spoken and nice. and when I tell you I was so understanding and nice even tho they were so mean they still never apologized. this place is so unfriendly. This was my first time coming here, as I am new to the city. I have tried a few nail shops and was not impressed. I cannot speak for everybody else's reviews but my pedicure with Patricia was absolutely amazing. She is going to be my go to every time I come here. I got the $60 pedicure which includes the works plus things I've never even known were done in a pedicure including a cucumber leg wrap. But she took her time and literally this is what you would get at a quality foot massage place. All in all I had a good experience with the girl that did my nails. She was very sweet and did an alright job. Some of the nails are bumpy with the top coat and the gel is thicker in some places. She got a lot of the gel on my skin and told me she was going to clean it up. I thought okay good she'll use some acetone and remove what's on my skin. Nope. She went in with cuticle clippers and proceded to cut the skin off my fingers that had the gel cured on it. Once I left I realized one of my fingers was bleeding everywhere and took a while for it to stop. It's the next day and my fingers are hurting. The person doing my nails had earbuds in the whole time and kept checking her and replying to messages on her phone. She clipped my nails when I said not to, she filed them very poorly and they were all different shapes and absolutely horrible looking, and the shellac was put on in globs, none of them were uniform in thickness. It was the absolute worst manicure I have ever gotten and I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. read more

Hadn't been back since COVID but was very disappointed with my service. The person that did my nails was very rude! She continued to talk in her language with the people that worked there. I felt she didn't care to even pay attention to what I said to her. She did a very hurried job & didn't put enough polish on as U could see thru the nails. I went here to get a full set of acrylics. I used to go here about 7 years ago and things were okay...but now!! OMG Take your money else where! First of all the language barrier is horrible, everything I told him I wanted he told me it was not right, then he would do something and say, this is what you need. I wanted them short short with a French manicure lower down because my nails grow so fast that I usually have to file the tips down before I go get a fill in 2 weeks. So I just kept telling him what I wanted but it made no difference. He finished and I left. They were HUGE!! He used tips twice the size I needed and it looked HORRIBLE! I wish I would have checked here first! first. Never again will I go out recommend them. 2 weeks later I went to Nail Gallery and he fixed everything without me even telling him the story. If I could this place then one star I would! Paid $30 for shellac a week ago and within a few days the first nail started to peel up and underneath was wet shellac. Yesterday three more did the same and when another did today, I decided to have them fixed. They tried to charge me full price and were hesitant to give the half off "discount" they did. Was in Midland for Easter and went based on my town having the same name salon ( of course upon reflection that place is awful too). My daughter & I got shellac manicures and pedicures. In order to remove my shellac they used a grinder for the entire process. I'm left with uneven nail beds. They also use cheese graders callouses... ugh! After Michael took off the polish he switched grinders and put one that was much more severe I literally saw pieces of my nail bed flying off.. I asked " don't you think the grinder wrecks my nails?" Yes he replied. I rephrased it and Again he answered yes. ( WTH?) My daughters nails look like a child painted them and we both took off our polish on our toes because it never dried and literally wiped off ( we were wearing flip flops) totally disappointing - do not go here !!! She rushed the service the entire time and kept telling us to pick out a color when we showed her a picture. My friend was actually bleeding because they were so rough with her nails. She kept hitting my hand and holding my fingers extremely tight. The service sucked overall and my nails look like crap. She didn't even get the ends/tips and the sides are not good. The entire nail is not even covered with the color she kept telling me that she was going to file. But the file doesn't spit out color. I had longer finger nails and they asked if I wanted them cut which I replied "a little please", they cut them so short I can't even scratch an itch. Got a shellac manicure and regular pedicure here last week. Pedicure felt rushed and I didn't feel like they scrubbed / softened callouses properly. For the manicure they used one of those mini sander things to take off my old nail polish, and then they sanded the nails before putting on the shellac paint. I would have preferred if they took off the old polish with acetone and not tore up my nails with the sander thing. Pro tip: they don't take credit card tips so you need to bring cash if you're planning on tipping. read more

I always go to Ken for my nails and I've been getting my nails regularly done for about 4-5 years now. Ken makes sure to be Incredibly mindful about being careful on my nail beds after another nail tech at a different salon really messed them up. I always get compliments on my nails. Ken goes the extra mile when doing nails; he makes sure each nail is the same length, shape, everything. Which most techs just eyeball it. He's very creative especially when I'm not sure what I want to do and I've never been disappointed in a set that he's done for me. Ken creates relationships with his clientele. There's been multiple occasions I've been rough on my nails and if it was a gem falling off or me completely breaking a nail off, Ken was very quick to get me back in so he can fix it for me. I love how Samantha does my nails, however; the price chart differs from what they actually make you pay. It says $25 for full set but mine was close to $40 and all I got was a solid color which she said was $8 more which I should have only paid $33. Also my friend got hers done at the same time and her shellac was only $5 more where as mine was $8 more. So with that being said they make up their prices based on who you go too. So I went to this place. I got my nails done, took about two hours (normal? Was my first time). Cost 50$ for short fake nails. One finger had glitter on it and they didn't cover the nail (I asked the to cover the nail before putting on the glitter) first like I asked and as for the glitter could barely see it. I think for the price (50$) not worth it at all. So therefore I don't recommend going to (at least) this one, maybe try a different one? read more

bad experience! I went for a basic pedicure. The guy scrubbed so hard my foot to make me bleed ( he was most interested to watch tv that do his job). I had to ask for a bandaids because he wanted to keep working while I was bleeding. He tried to put polish but it was so old that look like the job of a 5 years old, I asked to change it. I got a spa pedicure which was okay. However when it came to applying the polish it was a different story. No base coat. No drying time between coats. He kept adding acetone to the polish as he said it was dried out. Needless to say, the polish looks streaky and uneven. I also have polish around the outside of the nails. After getting your money, they leave you under the UV drier and it's up to you to decide when your nails are dry. I spent $55 including tip. What a waste! I had gone here once before and it was an okay experience. I decided to go again since it is close-ish to where I live and I needed to get my nails done for an event. All I wanted was shellac, and my husband was going to wait just outside the salon as I told him it wouldn't take long. I had no polish on and just. wanted. shellac. First the tech filled up a bowl with water and had me soak my hands in the bowl for about 10 MINUTES while she sat there and texted on her phone. After that she cut my cuticles and made 3 of my fingers bleed. All in all I was there for over an hour and felt so bad for my husband who was waiting patiently. In between everything, the tech would pull out her phone and text for at least a minute or two. At the end she charged me for the price of a manicure. I never asked for a manicure. Even on the sign-in sheet I just wrote "shellac." Very UNPROFESSIONAL and NOT EFFICIENT. Will not be returning to Modern Nails in the Midland Mall. read more

I've been here before for a mani/pedi and wasn't impressed but wanted to give it another try. Of course I was talked into upgrading my pedi to a spa treatment which consisted of a lotion and special foot soak as well as a hot wrap around my neck. I was flinching the whole time afraid I was going to get hurt. No base coat on toes or fingers. Manicure was horrible. 3 coats of polish with no drying time in between. Sloppy and uneven job. After it was done the top coat had bubbles in the finish and the polish on my toes was hardly dried after sitting under the fans for 30 minutes. I had a split in one nail and I asked to have filed before getting it polished. He barely touched it. I had to take the file and do it a little more. He sarcastically asked what he wanted me to do glue it? Well yeah if that's what was going to make it look better! Needless to say that nail didn't look that great. Polish barely lasted 4 days before chipping. When I got home I noticed I had burn marks on my neck where the heated wrap was placed. Not happy about the whole experience. Won't ever recommend or go back. It was not a relaxing experience. read more
