I consistently have great experiences at Modern Nails - whether gel nails, manicures, waxing or their amazing pedicures, plus they are always polite and accommodating. For those who remember Tranquility Spa at Enfield Mall, this is their newer business (for the past 3 years) with many of the staff members you remember from Tranquility. I used to love this place but it is very expensive compared to other local places so I only treat myself once in a while. My friend kindly gave me a gift card which I forgot about but found so I decided to treat myself. It's been a year so why not. I called... the guy who answered the phone was so short and rude I got a bad feeling but I had a gift card right. I show up on time and they bring me to the back. I sit in the seat and omg it's the most uncomfortable seat in the world... on top of that when they turn the massage chair on it totally violates your butt because the massagers are also in the seat. However the seat is so worn it felt horrible... probably worse than a proctologist visit. At least they're gentle and use lube. The lady begins my pedicure... she snips my nails gives them a quick file and then rinses them w cold water. All the while singing I wish you a merry Christmas which seems to be the only song available on their radio since I heard it about 20 times in a row. She puts my feet in plastic bags w scalding wax and starts my massage. Mind you I picked the green tea pedicure for $63 ... it's supposed to have all the bells And whistles plus a 25 minute massage. She sets the timer for 20 Minutes and starts to oddly touch my legs. 15 minutes later she gets up to grab towels. Wipes my legs off and is done. At this point I just want this over with. There is nothing relaxing about something poking you in butt while someone is oddly touching your legs for 30 minutes. Needless to say if I didn't just want to get rid of my gift card at this point I probably would of walked out with out paying. My nails and feet are still full of dead skin, my nails are still on the longer side, and a chair has been violating me for over half an hour. I feel bad for cheating on my biweekly nail lady. The rude guy, the crappy pedicure and charging for services I didn't receive is just awful business . Plus my butt is so sore I prob won't sit right for a week. I won't be back! Come to find out as I paid the bill this is a new owner. Definitely not the nail place it used to be. read more

I have visited this salon 4 times. The tech I got the first time did a very nice job so I have been going back to her. My first two visits were very nice and relaxing in spite of the man who answers the phones and makes appointments. He has been very rude on the phone and even yelled at me; loud enough so that my family heard him. The last two times I have been in the salon he has been there. The atmosphere is very different when he's there. The staff is silent, no one is smiling... it's been very unpleasant. Today I arrived slightly ahead of my scheduled appointment time, but it was obvious the tech would not be done with her previous client any time soon. It was so uncomfortable and tense that I got up and left. I'm not sure what is going on here, but the vibe is off. read more

Wish I could give NO stars but Yelp doesn't allow you to post without at least one star. Literally the worst dip manicure I've ever had. There is dip all over my fingers, my nails are bumpy, I don't think she knew how to use the filing machine tool?? Please don't go to this place. It was also $10 more for dip than most other places in the area so I'm not entirely sure what I paid for?? I just paid and ran out I was so disappointed and upset. She also completely shaved my nails off. I don't have long nails by any means but I asked her not to shape them or cut them or file and yet I leave with these stubby nasty nails. Very clean salon! Friendly employees. Did a great job with my pedicure and manicure. For the pedicure, they use a plastic bag in the basin, which they take out after each client. I got the deluxe pedicure and it was very relaxing. First she put a scrub on my legs and covered them in a heated towel and saran wrap, then worked on getting the nail polish off of my toes, soaking them, cutting my nails and cuticles. It also includes a message (hot stone) to your legs and she used another stone for a shoulder/upper back massage while my toes were drying. Great job putting the polish on. My only complaint would be that I asked her to cut my toenails as short as she could and I think they are still long (but I typically feel this way at any salon so k usually cut them a couple days before on my own). I got a manicure the last time I visited (about a month ago) and my only disappointment with that was that she made me bleed when she cut my cuticles in two spots. But, everyone makes mistakes sometimes. She did an excellent job other than that! read more

I do prefer Modern Nail. Unfortunately like many of these quick in and out nail spas, what you get depends on the nail tech. I am a regular at the salon spa and find that the more seasoned techs do a very thorough job. Try not to distract them with chatter, etc. Of course, attitude is important as well. The owner owns another older nail salon on the Thompsonville side of town as well near Creative School of hair design -- in that same plaza. Last week I had called and scheduled an appointment for 12:45 to have a gel set put on. The girl on the phone asked if I could come in at 12:30. I explained that I was coming from Massachusetts and the earliest I could do was 12:45. She said that was fine. I get into the nail salon at 12:47 and the girl sits me down and tells me to pick a color. The gentleman came out of the back room and said that his book said 12:30 and I was late and they would not take me. I explained that the girl on the phone had agreed to 12:45. The gentleman stated he didn't have time and i had to come back another time. NEVER going back there again. Awful customer service and such a waste driving out there. read more

This was my first time here, and I will not be back. My hands have limitations and it is challenging to trim my own nails. So I occasionally treat myself to a very basic manicure. Simply a nail trim and cuticle care. I didn't notice the rough sloppy edges until the end of my day. Shame on me for not paying closer attention and trusting a nail salon can pay attention to detail for a simple basic manicure. Don't let their pleasant conversation fool you into trusting they know what they're doing. read more
