Here's the back where the backing was ripped off because they put packing tape on the back and the blanket only on the front

I would not recommend this company to anybody. They hire third party movers and their kids. They don't know how to pack a truck. Clearly they don't know how to wrap furniture because the front of our mirror was wrapped in a blanket. They put packing paper around the back where all of the backing of the mirror got ripped off. When we took the blanket off they didn't even take their blanket with them. They left the mirror wrapped and left and there's fresh scratches on my tables. They broke the legs off of my antique vanity and they snapped two legs off of a side table

If a negative rating can be given it should. DO NOT USE this COMPANY. Tony Lupton the sales rep is quite charming and will give you quite the sales pitch, he will explain he's been in the business in for 30 years, they will have a crew who is knowledgeable on loading a truck to ensure your items are protected and will be delivered safely. They will have quilted blankets, equipment you would expect for a mover to have to lift heavy items, wrap TVs, furniture to avoid damage. Wardrobes for your closet, so no need to pack them. The movers will bring in the wardrobe, transfer your hanging clothes. We discussed our need for the movers to arrive early in the morning so we could clean and have our home we sold ready for the new buyers walk through and an overnight hold until we closed on our new home the next day. He assured us our items would be hauled to their secure facility. Well, none of what was promised occurred. At 9am, our movers did not arrive. I called to inquire where they were. Tony, rudely said I cant tell you, then transferred me to someone who was doing a job up in Grand Marais. That person told me the foreman for our job had just learned his niece was killed in a drive by shooting in Chicago IL. So was running behind. I was empathetic to such a story until about 2pm when I called and asked what was being done to get our move completed. That person said, the foreman was now on another job but should be to our place by 3pm. We had to reschedule our buyers walk through as our items had not been moved. About 3:30 I was contacted by a gentleman saying he would be to our place soon. He arrived and I showed him we had moved most of our belongings into garage to make it easier. I advised we only needed them to move 3 dressers from the upstairs, a sofa, loveseat, recliner and table from the main floor and our clothes were hanging in the closet waiting for the "wardrobes". He said, we dont have a big enough truck as a truck with two other gentlemen showed up. The truck was a 16 foot truck, hardly big enough to move a bedroom, let alone a 4 bedroom home. The truck did not have a ramp, they did not have any equipment. The men who showed up said they had only just learned of the job. When I told the foreman I was sorry for his loss, he looked totally dumbfounded as to what I was speaking about. I will give props to the men who showed up, while they were not prepared, were not given the correct size truck and had no equipment they could see our panic and tried to reassure us they would get it done. One of the men had never moved a home before, he was in his PJs, I would say nice kid, but he was not a "professional with experience". My husband and the foreman drove to a Truck rental company near by and rented a 26 foot truck while I remained at the house assisting the other two men with loading the 16 foot truck. The two men brought down our dressers but as there was no ramp, pushed the dressers onto the truck and pushed them to the back. One dresser was tipped onto its top and pushed. The entire top of the dresser is scraped. The bedframe and night stands received damage in transit as they did not have anything to wrap them with. They tried to use other soft items but it was insufficient. The foreman and my husband returned with the 26 foot truck and my husband and I assisted with handing them boxes etc to put into the truck. I did not expect I would need to direct the mover in his PJs but he just didnt know what to do. When we asked the foreman where he was taking the truck, he said, not sure, maybe I'll just park it in front of my house in St. Paul. Not the secure location we were expecting. The men did bring our items the next day and again had no equipment as the trucks given to them did not have any. They did their best to get our items into the house without issue. One of the movers did not speak English, and another mover was clearly frustrated that he could not communicate with him. The non English speaking mover was trying to work quickly but was hitting walls. He did cause some damage but I chalked it up to you clearly get what you pay for. While Tony will quote you an amazing price it is NOT worth it. You will end up with anxiety, damaged property and a lack of accountability from Tony Lupton who is the face/sales person selling you a line of non-truths. He will try to pass you off onto someone named Reggie whose phone doesn't pick up, in fact drops. When I called Tony to explain our experience, he overtalked me, told me i didn't need to explain it to him but should talk to Reggie. I explained he is the voice/face and he should be aware. I wrote them, asked why I was charged for supplies and to make a claim for the furniture damage. Not surprised they did not respond. I called them and Tony hung up on me. DO NOT USE this company!!!! The one Star is for the men who tried with what little they were given, not the company.

When stripped you see the damage that was attempted to be covered up with the black stain.

Modern Moving damaged an antique mahogany table in my move on April 25. As they were only offering .60/lb, I opted to have them repair the table. After 7 months and numerous calls I finally got the table back. It was totally damaged. It had been sanded through in places, a leg had been broken and attempted to be repaired, and the whole table was finished in a sticky black finish. The drawers were stuck shut. This was an antique passed down from my mother and had high sentimental value as well as formerly being a high quality piece of furniture. The company does not stand behind so much damage and continues to offer only the .60/lb.

Minneapolis moving services are some of the most expensive anywhere I've experienced. I hope that simply means that MN companies pay their labor well. We paid $1365 + $180 tip (optional, but come on) for a 3-man crew at $260/hr (2-hour minimum), and we obviously also provided snacks and drinks (they declined breakfast). For comparison, in San Francisco it was $250/hr for 5 men. The rate was with both the weekday discount and winter pricing. Weekend would have been $285/hr for 3 men, and $345 for 4 men. There was no trip fee. Robert, in particular was incredible; he moved a 6 drawer dresser down a tight stairwell alone. They needed to remove the front door at one point, but did so without issue. They also were happy to use our own furniture pads and plastic wrap (leftover from a cross-country move). At one point, they had to back the huge truck through the alley on icy ground, and had no problems. Also, it was easy to provide them inventory by email, and easy to reach them by phone. Lots of moving companies were annoying to contact, which is partly why we chose this one. One a few minor issues: one piece of furniture was shedding pieces of wood. I think they were reinforcements put on by previous owners. I didn't even know they were there, and it doesn't seem to have affected the furniture. They also forgot a couple of items in the yard, including a big smoker we had to move on our own. It's partly my fault, I told them we were good to go. Also, we were made to sign a lot of paperwork, and at various points it was for things like "you confirm that nothing is broken and everything has arrived" and, like, it's weeks later and I'm still unpacking, there is no way I would have known for sure. It's fine, because so far we have had no issues, but if someone did have issues it might feel like being strong-armed via contract. The guys in the truck were just doing their jobs, so it's the process that is problematic more than anything. We would use these guys again!

Pros: -1 My slot was originally at 8:30a, but with days notice I needed to start earlier, and they were able to move it up to 8am. 2- Each individual I spoke to on the phone when setting up the appointment seemed patient, was helpful, and never came off pushy like movers can (at times). 3- The 3 guys sent were overall respectful. The lead seemed to have his stuff together and knew what he was doing, the other two (who he said were newer) weren't as efficient, but again respectful. Cons: 1- Service was from 8a-11a for the equivalent of a studio. 2- They came 15mins late, the commute between the two locations should have been 15mins but ended up being 30 because they had to stop for gas. Unfortunately when they arrived a garbage truck was now blocking the loading dock so that added another 10mins, and another 5-10mins was lost because toward the end of the job I went to my car and when I returned the lead mover was just standing outside the unit because "the door was locked", which it wasn't. He just didn't use his muscle to push open. So in all, over 45mins of wasted time, which costed me. 3- When I questioned their timing, I was told it's because I had a lot of boxes. To be fair, I did, but they were mainly smaller boxes (like for shipping). If anything i think they dragged their feet to milk the time which is very unscrupulous. 4- Their failure to used a door stopper in the beginning resulted in the unit door being scratched, which one guy tried to convince me was there before . FALSE! Anyway, the damage was shared with CMM, but there was never follow-up. Ultimately, maintenance repainted it. 5- Despite boxes being labeled for the rooms they belonged in, they paid little attention. For example those for kitchen in bedroom. 6- I ended up having to help move the dresser since it wasn't placed where I requested. By the time it was realized 2/3 of guys were at the truck and lead asked if I could help. Since I was paying for the service I would have rather not, but it was easier than having to do it alone later. Perhaps I should send them an invoice. 7- Before they took off, I wanted to just to take a peak at the back of the truck to ensure nothing was left behind. The reception to that request was odd. I mean whats the big deal?! Ultimately I went and ensured. 8- In all the delays costed me and I paid about $300-$400 more than anticipated. Funny thing is the lead kept stressing the whole gratuity thing at the end. I gave them each $20 and the look I got seemed like it wasn't enough. It instantly left me wishing I had given ZERO. My last thing which is more of a suggestion, CMM should consider investing in tees or some branded merch for their staff. Having guys show up in sneaker, crocs, and street clothes really didn't provide a professional look which yes, is possible for movers.

Unfortunately, during the move a leak occurred on a fridge that was moved - the company reconnected the power and the water line, returned the fridge against the wall, collected payment and left. Fortunately, I came back the next day to a vacant house to gather anything left behind, and found a wet carpet, a wet bathroom, wet hardwoods, flood ceilings, damaged HVAC, etc. The carpet is ruined, the hardwoods are ruined in numerous areas. I brought this to Tyrell's attention, and it has been brushed off by him numerous times. The company claims that the water line was "done as a courtesy", which I contest - the service was offered, and was paid for. It is estimated that I have $35,000-$40,000 in damages throughout the house. With that said, I'm not mad that it occurred, I understand these things can happen. What frustrates me is that after repeated attempts to gather the companies insurance information, they have refused to provide it. The companies website clearly notates that "We are a professional moving company in Minneapolis with the required licenses and insurance." It is a requirement that moving companies maintain insurance. It is my right to file a claim. The fact that they have been unwilling after numerous attempts to provide an insurance carriers name, let alone a point of contact or policy number, is highly concerning. I have contacted the Attorney General's Office, Better Business Bureau, Department of Labor, and will continue looking for resources to ensure that this is dealt with adequately. The main job of someone that runs a moving company is to deal with customer issues swiftly, and that has not been the case here at all. I would highly recommend doing due dilligence before hiring Tyrell's crew, they are quick to collect payment, but awfully slow to remediate any customer concerns.

We were told they try and get the estimate within 10% yet this is a 30% increase. We specifically requested an in person walk through ( versus a remote walk though) so they could actually see what needed to be moved to aid them in giving us an accurate estimate . A slight adjustment is to be expected but $2000 is extreme. It is not our fault they miscalculated. We would've gone with a different mover if Metcalf quoted us as much as they are charging now. It makes it seem as if they under bid to secure the job and then charge far more afterwards. Additionally, when we walked through the house after they packed it, several drawers in the kitchen had been left unpacked and totally full. Storage in the family room built in still had items in it. Also, we have missing items including fine dining silver (a wedding gift) and jewelry among other items. Lastly, one of the movers became very argumentative with us after he ripped up the plastic floor protector and refused to put it back down even though they were still moving boxes into the house. Even the other movers were confused by this man's behavior- it was very strange and totally inappropriate. On the plus side, most of the movers were very nice and hard working. The 2 gentlemen who came to unpack were exceedingly nice, worked hard and had great attitudes. Again, the list of the items which may not be replaceable is making this move very difficult. Moving is hard enough as it is, there shouldn't be major issues like these from a company that charges thousands of dollars to supposedly make your move easier . We cannot in good faith, and would not recommend Metcalf Moving and Storage.

While moving, I heard a loud noise, like something falling down all the stairs. I asked if something broke and they said "nope, nothing broke." (See attached picture, showing broken piece off of an expensive table). When we finished moving to the new place, I tip handsomely (as I always do) and that did seem to change the tall guy's demeanor.
