Getting pierced is like getting tattooed. Either the piercing person is good and I mean good or not worth the time of day. My grandson had his ears pierced about 3 months ago and decided that grandpa needed to match him. Little did he know grandpa had 3 holes in each ear up to over an inch, the about 5/8" and 3/4" for many years plus the other 5 or 6 he still had. A couple of the piercers had conversations with me to see what I wanted. Been 12+ years since any jewelry had been in my loobs. Kaydence either drew the short straw or decided my patent was an old guy, and said she'd deal with me. Turns out with all this new jewelry that has come out she was able to slide a 12 gauge in the bottom hole with no issues. Now mind you they will pull out without much effort as the large holes have not closed up. We talked and decided to give it a try anyway as it's my 72 bday on the 23rd and I wanted to match my grandson. I leave out of state and might swing by on my way home to explore a couple other possibilities. But if you are looking for your 1st piercing or your 10th, I can highly recommend Modern Mods in the Arrowhead Mall. I can say that watching all the piercers, they are professional, knowledgeable, they want you happy as does the rest of the staff. When I started getting pierced and tattooed I was all of 16. I've also done a lot of piercings back in the day and taken care of my daughter's friends who got infections because they failed to follow simple instructions. We are a family of pierced and fully tattooed individuals. So go see the people at Modern Mods and get pierced. You will be pleased that you did. Thank you all for your help, you are the best. This store took what was supposed to be a positive experience and absolutely ruined it. I brought my 4 year old in here to get her ears pierced!! It was explained to me before her ears were pierced that the piercing for a child under five was $60, and that upgraded earrings could be purchased for an additional fee. There was one rack of earrings that was included in the $60, a rack of titanium pairs made the lobe piercings $100, and a rack of 14k gold sets that would make the lobe piercings $200. Turns out, the upgrades don't include the piercing. So the titanium upgraded set would've made my total $160, and the gold set made my total $260. Not a huge deal, but would've been nice to have known that upfront. Never, ever was $260 stated by any staff member. I'm fairly confident that this issue happens often, and that they're not clearly explaining it because before she put the earrings in my daughter, she even explained to me that the upgraded price would be $100 per ear. During checkout, the girl was so argumentative about the upgrade price, even though I was completely willing to pay for it that she didn't even give me any of the aftercare instructions for my daughter's ears.. She even argued with me about it AFTER payment had been made cutting me off and trying to explain why she was right. I'm not positive at this point why she didn't offer to go get a manager or supervisor, because that would've been the correct thing to do. She was extremely frustrated and projecting on both myself and my husband after we had already paid about the pricing. We left mid argument because we were so uncomfortable AND left a tip despite her absolute horrible customer service. One of the oddest things about this place is the way that they respond to reviews. Go look at them. Anything negative is instantly blamed on the customer, they take O accountability. They instantly blame the customer and try and make it seem like absolutely nothing that they did was incorrect or confusing. It's also worth mentioning, this store prides themselves on offering a 10% military discount, buttttt when we got to the front counter, it was only THEN explained that that 10% only comes off the "service charge". So instead of $26 off my daughter's ears, it was $6.. I highly suggest you find a different location for all piercings. Not only was the customer service, greatly lacking, but our piercer was rude, and upon leaving we noticed a pretty nasty gnat infestation.. wonder if the health department has been out here lately? read more

I needed to buy a new earring for my tragus piercing, and also needed help putting it in since the earrings are so small. I'd been to a few piercing shops around the valley, and had called some too, but no one had what I wanted. Eventually someone recommended this place and I'm glad they did since their selection of earrings was great. Modern Mods offers lots of piercing services and sells numerous jewelry. There is also a location in Chandler. I came on a Saturday afternoon. It was busy. There was a line to get to the counter to request the service you needed, but it moved fast. When it was my turn, the woman helped me pick out an earring and told me it would be another 10-15 minute wait for someone to help me with it. They would text me when it was my turn. I probably only waited 10 minutes. There was a waiting area with couches. There were special chairs to sit in for the service. The woman who helped me was very nice and the whole process of switching out the jewelry took 2 minutes. It was $40 for the earring and $10 to put in. While I'd rather not spent that much, I do think the quality and service was great. And it's nice to have an actual earring in again, since I'd only had a post in my ear for months. Ok hear me out, I know I sound like a cry baby but the piercing was not cheap. I did a walk in with 2 other friends and got a surface tragus piercing for 110$ or so. 6 months later the piercing was getting "rejected by my body". I called before walk in consultation. I explained the situation. Don't want my money back but could I possibly get it RE pierced. She said she sees that happening all the time. Come on and we'll check it out. Went in. Got the consult after 30 min. She told me oh well basically that piercing doesn't stay permanently. It'll last a couple weeks. Now why would I pay 110$ for a piercing that won't stay on my body. I stopped by Modern Mods the day before having wrist surgery as I was required to remove all piercings prior to the operation. I have some ear piercings that are tricky to remove by myself, so I called upon the pros to help. I was in and out in half an hour and the piercer who assisted me even bagged up my jewelry to keep it all in one place when it was time to put it back in. A few days after my surgery, I was feeling well enough to venture out of the house and have my ear jewelry put back. I returned to Modern Mods and was treated just as wonderfully. I got my third row and my helix pierced. I will say the lady's there were very nice and patient. Though I didn't appreciate that I wasn't informed on the kind of jewelry I was getting. I had thought I was getting a screw in stud like my helix is, but apparently I got a like click into place stud. Not even a week later it falls out and I had to pay a whole WHOPPING like $35 for ONE *singular* stud to replace it. Not a set... just one earring It's been a few months now and I just took them out for the first time and the original stud that I still had didn't even click in properly?? like the one I had to buy, so I'm kinda feeling like I got kind of crappy earrings the first time around There should really be some kind of warranty for the healing period for the jewelry. Modern mods is located in arrowhead mall on the 1st floor next to dillards! I came here on a Sunday and they accepted walk ins! (Note you probably want to come in an hour before they close as they can get busy and can have up to 30 minute wait!) They have a great selection of piercings to choose from of all different kinds! The shops interior was very clean and sanitary. They have a waiting area inside but also just outside the shop there are also an extra seating area. They send u a text when ur up next so feel free to wander, not too far though lol! Piercing service is a $50 price and additional for the jewelry you want. They also offer aftercare which I ended up purchasing. Here is my review on my piercings: Note everyone's pain tolerance is different so this may be different from your experience! Helix: 5-6/10 Definitely hurt a lot more than the upper lobe and was definitely more sore but honestly not as terrible as I thought it was going to be! Madi was my piercer and she did a wonderful job and was really informative on everything she was doing. Upper lobes: 3/10 Hurt wayyyy less than the helix and did not feel sore at all after. Just a slight pinch when pierced but definitely not terrible! Overall experience: Loved my visit here and definitely found my new favorite piercing shop in Glendale! My first piercing as an adult! I've had my ears pierced since I was a baby, and I've been wanting to get my nose pierced. I stopped by here around noon on a Wednesday and there were a few people there. I was directed to the back to check in and fill out the consent form. They use a waitlist feature and I was told it would be 45 minutes since 4 people were ahead of me. I got a text notifying my turn and came back from walking around the mall. Stevie called me back a few minutes after I arrived and got me prepared. It literally took seconds to pierce my nose and I definitely felt it; one tear emerged in my left eye. I paid and got aftercare information and I was on my way. Stevie was great running the place and loved her energy and efficient work. Prices seemed fair, I don't know prices at other shops so I really appreciate how transparent they are here! FYI it was $45 for the piercing and $15 for the stud, and then adding tip. Excellent location! We parked in the mall parking lot. There was plenty of parking. As you enter the mall it's close to the entrance. The front desk cashiers were friendly and polite and helpful with answers to our questions and quickly got us to the next station to choose a piercing and the type of rings. The next rep walked us through the various processes and types of rings. She told us a bit about the company and the folks that work there. Everyone was so friendly and hospitable. I wanted to repierce a joke and they told me I wouldn't have to they would prove the hike because there was probably scar tissue. That was exactly what had happened. They cleaned out the scar tissue and I was good as new. If I'm back in the area I will definitely come there for another piercing. read more

Finally decided to get my piercings after over a decade of wanting to get a bunch of piercings. I decided to get new lobe piercings and a helix/flat. Everyone working there was so friendly and helpful, from picking out jewelry to whether I should get a flat or helix first. We went with helix as the healing time was supposed to be faster. My piercer showed me where she was going to pierce and was quick and efficient. She made the experience very comfortable since I was a little nervous. It's been just over 2 months and my piercings look good. I've just gone back to down size my helix and the piercer noticed my left lobe was showing some signs of infection/irritation. She drained it for me and showed me how to better clean my piercings. I will definitely come back to get more piercings done. read more

I went in this week to get my nips pierced and when the girl took me into the back to pierce me she was shaking and she was twisting the piercing in which made it hurt 10x more and when she put the bar in she used a small bar so it fell out which she said wouldn't happen because she bent the bar so it would stay. When i went back to get the piercing redone the new piercer showed me the size difference and which bar i should have had in the beginning which was astronomically bigger. However the bar still ended up falling out which is crazy considering i paid $75 extra for the bar and $200 in total. I have had all of my piercings done here and i have never had this bad of an experience and i am never going to come back if i can help it. read more

I am pretty new to piercings and have recently had a double helix, my thirds, a bellybutton and an eyebrow piercing at this location within the past few months. I've had my other 2 lobes pierced with a gun at other locations prior to this, and had a very obviously bad healing experiences lol. I've had all different piercers each time and they were all super sweet and I have never had an issue with infection etc. They are quick, do a good job, and are so friendly and sweet. We came here to get our 2 year old and 6 year olds ears pierced. Our piercer was Rae and she was SO good with both girls. She was very calming, and talked them through what she was going to do before she did and made it a very positive experience for them (despite the inevitable crying). I went with a friend who made our reservation. The CS is quite friendly and the girls are accommodating. The pricing however was extreme. I paid $260 the first piercing and decided to get a different earring the second time. The earrings are so tiny and even though 14 carat the cost is way over the top. I was told the little tiny stones were diamonds so I went with it (being naive and never did this before) I was willing to pay the price. Total $650 later (and that was with 10% off) as I was paying was told "Oops those aren't diamonds, they're Swarski crystals. $320 for those. They're about the size of a pin head and 3 of them. What am I gonna do?! Have them pull it out and start over?! I just sucked it up. When checking out they have a "tip" category. Thus the reason for over the top friendliness. Takes 15 seconds to put the earring in. I'm not paying $60-150 tip!!! Needless to say I woke up! Not going back because shortly after that my friend and I both found an extremely reasonable place to go and they offer 14k pure gold at nowhere near that price and since I didn't get real diamonds I'll definitely save on future styles. My only advice is to do your homework and check out other places before paying more for less. read more

So I have never been here before, my cousin recommended it to me. Upon entering there is a checkout desk, but to be pierced keep going further towards the back on the right hand side. That is where you sign a waiver form, and pick your jewelry. My son is autistic and also has epilepsy so I expressed my concerns and was assured they would take it all into consideration. Tysha was his piercer, she was very friendly and made sure that my son was comfortable and explained everything to him before hand. He felt at ease which made me feel at ease. He pierced both of his ears and she was great with him. He is so happy about having his piercings as he's been wanting a tattoo but was advised he can't by his Drs so for him this was a huge deal. Our 5 year old daughter has been wanting her ears pierced for quite some time. We were going to head to another store at the mall that used piercing guns. One of my awesome Yelp friends Chassidie recommended using a piercing studio to avoid uneccessary trauma to the ear. I am a worry wart. I wasn't even ready for this for her yet. I also wanted the best. Someone thoughtful as if they were piercing their own ears. What if it was crooked? That happened to our neighbors. I looked on Yelp not finding any jewelry shops that offered piercing with good reviews. Modern Mods looked too hipster and beast mode for a 5 year old. I thought they were for more fancy body piercings. We stopped in and this cool hip place had little girls lined up with their parents. I talked to Tysha who was confident, kind, professional and comforting. They use a new needle on every client. We decided this would be the place. There was about a 30 minute wait. Time was not an issue. We stood in line a few minutes and then filled out the waivers and permission docs on a tablet. Our tot picked out her earings and we waited for the cell phone to let us know when it was our turn. I was so happy to see Tysha was going to do her piercing. She is great with kids and adults. She explained everything as she did it. She cleaned then marked her ears. Even asked us if we liked the location. Then put a clip on them and walla it was done. Then tears flowed. Our tot was a trooper and sat through the second one. Mind you our girls freak out visiting the Butterfly Wonderland. I was surprised she had made it this far! Afterwards we went over care instructions and purchased some cleaner. I like that they give you care instructions before leaving on paper and a link to their website if you have any questions. Tysha made sure we felt welcome to come back or call with any questions or issues. She really was a God send for us. We got exactly what we wanted for our daughter, care and quality.
