Don't get me wrong! The haircut was great! It was exactly what I wanted. My hair is curly and can lose its shape often but the stylist hit the mark. The stylist, however, had to straighten my hair in order to cut it. And this is due to having textured curly hair; I think I was even charged extra than a regular cut, to be honest. It happens often to me so I guess it isn't that bad but at the end of my visit, I was stunned I paid so much. Despite my hair looking great, I would not come back here due to the stylist making me feel uncomfortable. She kept on making comments about my hair, and how it's boring because I don't have color. Then made comments about how it looks better straight (validating my curly hair insecurities) and the final straw for me was her asking me why I don't have kids. I get it, small talk is necessary sometimes but honestly, this felt like I was defending myself, my hair, and my lack of kids-which I tried to explain was not by choice to kind of give her a hint. The stylist did a great job but not my kind of environment. I look forward to one day finding a location that is experienced with curly hair. read more

The service here is really great. I've done 2 hair services here and for both times I came. I've left satisfied with my hair. My mom also go here for eyebrow service; ann did a great job fixing her eyebrows. We really regret not coming here way before. read more

I love Ann! I have been coming to her for more than 5 years. She has done the most amazing job! I definitely recommend her! Thanks Ann!!

Owner is very friendly, called when they opened but no one picked up. She did call me back though, and was available for me to come in right away. They have plenty of parking here, so you don't have to worry. They also cut men's hair. The salon is nice and clean, 5 chairs, 2 washing station, 2 pedicure chairs and a manicure table which I think hasn't been used for some time now. It has random things on it and I don't see any nail polishes around. I got full high lights, toned it, and trimmed my hair. Roughly cost around $140. Fair price. When I got there at 11, she started me right away, around 12:30, she got a little busy by herself and took on 3 customers while I still waited for my hair to be processed. When she finally finished them she got back to me at 2pm, washed my hair and gave me my haircut. I didn't leave until 3pm. The highlights is really nice, she takes her time and is really good at what she does. I'm just a little bummed that my hair is darker than I would like. I have to say though, my hair looks a lot healthier. I would come back, and try to get my light hair back. Enjoy! read more

I just moved to the area and was looking for a new hairdresser. I needed someone who is super friendly, clean environment, good price and knows how to cater to my type of hair. I have a very long black thick hair that requires patience and sensitive handling. My friend referred me to this place - it's around a worn out area but the place is clean. My mom and I came to get our gray hair touched up plus haircut for mom and flat iron for me. I can say that this place did not disappoint! Ann was friendly and she is an expert! I think I found my spot in Vallejo! read more

Do not trust Ann. She cut my hair so short and uneven. The worst ever. I went for a trim and could not believe all the hair on the floor. She cut it all off. Do not trust her. Ann recommended ombré powder brows, so I got that done instead because it is supposed to last long and is actually more affordable. It took less time and was less painful than microblading, and Ann made sure I liked it.She was friendly and she does great work.My eyebrows are much better than before! read more

I made the mistake of attempting to highlight and bleach my hair at home which didn't turn out as expected. The next day I sought out a hair stylist who could take me that very day. Everyone I called turned me down as it was too last minute. Then I called Ann at Modern Hair. I explained the situation and she told me to come in to see what she could do for me. Turned out to be AMAZING! Ann is truly heaven sent! From the color correction, time spent, and fun talks she really is amazing at what she does! Coming back for sure! :) read more

We've been coming to Modern Hair for over eight years. ANN and her stylists are very professional and knowledgeable and do a wonderful job every time! Modern Hair - My sister loves hers too . Thanks Ann - Hair Salons Near Me - Vallejo, California

I went in to get pricing for my hair. I wanted an all over color. Pretty simple. The owner gave me a quote of over $300. Telling me she needs too bleach to lighten & it will take several hours then they can add color. I was already blonde! I wanted an all over color because my hair was damaged. I told her that when I walked in. I did not want to bleach it. I've been doing my hair for a long time. My good friends are hairdressers. They just live in different cities. I went somewhere else & they did everything I asked it was less than $100. It was a simple cut & color. *this place will take advantage of you if you don't know what you're doing. I don't minD paying for good work, price isn't the problem. She sat there & tried to convince me I needed all of these extra steps that I didn't. She just seems super dishonest read more

I always get my hair cut at Modern Hair! Talented hair stylists who cut at a reasonable price, but with the price comes the waiting time...which tends to be longer, so calling ahead is a good idea. For me, I've only really gone here for hair cutting services, but my sister has gotten her hair done for her cotillion here, and she really liked it. Definitely call ahead when you plan on getting a hair cut, because they take their time to ensure you have a stylish head of hair! read more

I called to get an appointment, and I was told I would get a call back thirty minutes later, and that did not happen, I called again and scheduled an appointment, and when I arrived the hair stylist was not there and was told to come back in at a later time, despite double and triple checking about the appointment time. read more

Modern Hair - Hair Salons Near Me - Vallejo, California

My father and i have been coming to modern hair for YEARS for my haircuts which have always been good so i trusted this salon for a different service ( HORRIBLE MISTAKE). i recently was looking into perms because i have natural curly hair and wanted to fix my curl pattern. i came into modern hair and ann ( the owner) said she would do the curly perm but the ONLY issue would be my hair being dry which i was okay with because that could be fixed down the line. After ann and her aunt proceeding with putting the curling rods and solution in my hair they both checked my hair multiple times after the fact of the solution already being in they could see my hair was becoming gummy , stringy and elasticy and still left the rods in. after they took them out and rinsed out my hair she dried my hair and instantly my whole facial expression and mood changed my hair looked horrible. all curls were gone my hair was flat and almost dread like. my hair stretches like a rubber band and is EXTREMELY dry , fragile , and not curly at all. i paid for the service and later asked for a refund which was denied. i will no longer be going to the salon and i recommend all to stay away from this salon as well! Never again. read more

I will always appreciate a hairstylist who gives me advice. The worst thing is when they agree with you even though they know better. Heeelpppp me from looking hurt, especially if I'm paying $25 for a trim. I wanted to go shoulder length but she said I should go past my shoulder by a little bit instead because of my hair type (curly/wavy). And she thinned my hair out to keep it from looking hella big hahah. I came out feeling BRAND NEW. I loved the length of my hair and I like that she asked if I wanted my hair straightened after. Even though she opened up the shop late (15 minutes), she was quick to finish up two gentlemen before me. Even though I no longer live is Vallejo I do see myself stopping by here to get that shoulder length trim again. read more
