I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is my FAVORITE COFFEE IN ARIZONA! (Find my other review if you don't believe me) Came to town for a weekend visit and had to stop in before heading out of town as I was busier than usual I didn't make it in everyday of my journey - darn! I enjoyed my iced Cinnamon Spin and complimentary chocolate covered coffee bean which is one of the special touches that Modern Grind brings to make it's customers feel even more special. I heard there is another location in Glendale, AZ as well so I'll be checking that out next time I'm in town but the Avondale location has my heart and overall loyalty when I'm in town. Friendly, clean, fast....parking was easy...we took over the entire patio with our group and they were okay with it. The kids liked their drinks and I enjoyed mine. I'd have to try it again to get a better feel for the coffee itself. read more

I was in the area for my son's two-day tournament. I love trying new-to-me coffee shops, so I decided to check out a different shop each day. On the second day, I decided to try Modern Grind. Modern Grind has a drive-thru, but you can also order at the walkup window. After an hour drive from Gilbert, I desperately needed to use the restroom and thankfully, they have one! As soon as I parked, I ran to the restroom which was fortunately unlocked. Afterwards, I walked over to the window to place my order. I ordered a jalapeño breakfast burrito and an almond milk latte with honey and cinnamon powder. The burrito came with red potatoes, pepper jack cheese, egg, and a side of salsa. It usually comes with bacon or sausage but I opted for neither. Service was fast and friendly. I enjoyed both the burrito and the latte! read more

Really wanted to love this place but it's a miss for me . Got an "energy " drink that was explained as more of an herbal tea type drink - ended up tasting like carbonated syrup. We were close by and I needed a coffee and heard great things about Modern Grind. I love they have a drive thru and service was super friendly with a great menu. Unfortunately, the drinks we got didn't live up to the hype. The espresso was bitter and the drinks were watered down. We did get two drinks so not sure if it was just an off day as both drinks were bitter and watered down. I love supporting small local businesses and there is a lot of great local small businesses that serve up great drinks. If I was in the area again I might give another try to see if I just happened to get a bad batch. I wish them much success as they have a lot of great reviews and regulars! read more

This is a small shop, mostly a drive through, with a walk up window. I saw something about their seasonal "camping" drinks and knew I HAD to try the Payson. It is exactly what I got, it is perfection. The matcha is high quality, you can really taste it. The banana cream flavor is delicious, it's not too overpowering. I visit this area from time to time and was looking for a local coffee shop and i'm so happy I found this place. It's located across from the Walmart and i totally missed it because it's such a small establishment, so keep your eyes peeled. I tried the vanilla latte one day but on the 2nd day I tried the caramel macchiato that was absolutely delicious. I got my mom a cappuccino with half and half, extra hot and she said it was the best. I tasted it and it was very delicious. My friend ordered a hazelnut granita but it was too sweet for my taste. Overall, this place is a must TRY. Don't get your heart set on the menu items you see on here or their website, as I did, and went in to learn that a number of things were not actually on their menu this season. I liked this place a lot, it's mainly just a drive through although there is a little patio area. There were a good amount of customers which is always a good sign. The customer service here is really great, the barista who took my order was super friendly and so was the one who handed me my drink at the window. I ordered a 16oz cold brew with cream and toffee syrup, it was good but a tiny bit watery. Drove past this spot and figured "oh look a cute size coffee shop, let's go support it!" Pulled them up on yelp to check in and seen that you're able to redeem a 20% off with check in so we ordered the 24oz caramel twist. We got to the drive thru window and my hubby told the girl working front that we checked in on yelp and if we can apply the 20% off they are offering. The girl didn't look to sure so she asked a manger (I think he was), gave him my phone and he said that they are not "partnered up with yelp" but he will honor it this time ..... OK? Recently, I had a small issue, and the owner personally reached out to make it right. I appreciated her and it shows how much she cares. I love this spot so much that I sometimes drive all the way from Surprise, even on days when I don't have classes nearby, just to grab a drink.
