From start to end, I had an amazing experience with Modern Fine who catered my wedding. Don't judge me, but I judge weddings by the food. So for my wedding, nailing the food was a top priority. We coordinated a private tasting with Eloisa and Gerald that focused on Asian-centric dishes. Eloisa and I did some brainstorming for the tasting - we selected some crowd favorites from their sample menus and added some custom items. Ultimately, for appetizers, we chose the poke wonton and chicken satay. For entrees, we chose Malaysian beef, lemongrass BBQ chicken, and miso cod. For sides, we chose a cucumber salad and Chinese-style eggplant. As you can tell, they can accommodate a broad range of cuisines (their Western and Indian sample menus looked great too). We had multiple people at the wedding tell us how much they loved the food, which I feel rarely happens at wedding. Beyond being tasty and full of flavor, the food was beautifully presented. I went to a bday party for two friends of my 6 yo prior to Lockdown. I was blown away with how amazing all the food was. The Hawaiian themed food was comfort foods that kids and adults loved . My go to catering company when I need meals done when we are allowed to social again. The second part of this review is about their catered meals while in lockdown due to Covid. MFC teamed up with a local school and offered Easter meals to be picked up via drive thru. The staff was very well prepared and protected during pick up . Our Easter Prime Rib meal was superb! Bravo. My son had the Sweet and Spicy Chicken sandwich with slaw on a brioche bun today! First of all he barely let me have some and we wanted more when it was gone! I'm telling you I came home and I'm still thinking about it. My daughters had the chicken tenders and fries and they said they were the best they've ever had. The owners were amazing and they talked about all the food items they make depending on the event and we are sold! For my best friend's laid back bachelorette party I decided to have a nice 5 course dinner for our group of girls on our last night together. Chef Gereld was very prompt and professional during the whole process. He sent me sample menus weeks leading up to the date and was very open to any suggestions on what we would prefer to have. He made sure that we established final details the weekend before the event which really reassured me that the service he provides will not disappoint. On the day of the event he showed up on time and ready for our dinner. It was very impressive that he really focused on details especially by printing out a menu card and really focusing on the table set up. Our 5 course dinner was amazing! Everyone loved what he prepared especially the lamb lollipop. I don't usually go for lamb, but Chef Gereld changed my mind about lamb. The highlight of our 5 course menu was the Sticky Toffee Pudding. OMG!!! So so so so delicious. In fact, I even placed an order for a family party and it was a big hit. We chose the full service which included setup, cleanup and servers. Best decision ever. The servers were attentive and polite. Eloisa was super responsive and on top of every detail. AMAZING!!! Modern Fine Catering provided the food for our wedding and everyone kept coming up to us saying it was the best food they have ever had, and we don't disagree. Everything was seasoned and cooked to perfection. We had steak with mushroom cream sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, and buttered green beans with caramelized onions (DELICIOUS), Moroccan spiced chicken with mango chutney, garlic couscous, and green beans (so good and they were able to make this vegan), and blacked salmon with mango salsa, cilantro rice, and citrus glazed carrots (SO FLAVORFUL). They have so many different options and unique flavors to choose from. On top of the food being amazing, the owners Eloisa and Gereld were so helpful and easy to work with. They were able to accommodate dietary restrictions, child meals, and even helped coordinate having dippin dots at our wedding! Something that stuck out to me is that our coordinator forgot to bring us appetizers to try during pictures and when I popped my head in the kitchen and asked if there were any left overs, Gereld made us fresh appetizers and they brought them to the head table! Additionally, while we're were dancing, Eloisa brought my husband and I our favorite flavor of dippin dots. They truly went above and beyond and I cannot say enough positive things. My sister and I used Modern Fine Catering for my nephews graduation party this past month. They were referred to her by a friend of the family. We live in Fremont so were going to use someone a bit more local but my sister works at Stanford and her friend from work, that we've known a long time, is a nurse and throws alot of events and was adamant that we give them a try. She was definitely correct in her recommendation. Gereld, Eloisa and her team from MFC showed up right on time and ready to go, which was one of our concerns because of Bay Area traffic. We had most of the event area already set up for our 80 guests, but Gereld offered to have his team help us out with some last minute rearrangements since our guest count had grown from an original 60 to 80 plus. Eloisa was very easy to reach and to deal with as our needs changed from the original contact to the actual day of the event. We had a bar included in our package for adults and we had an idea for set up, but Gereld showed up for the walk through and made some suggestions for bar and buffet placements that we hadnt thought of that were a big help. But all that means nothing if the food and service isnt good. But honestly, it was beyond good...everything was fantastic from the moment they arrived. The bar was set up quickly and was in place in plenty of time to take pictures before our guests arrived. Also, the passed appetizers (shrimp, beef something on skewers and bruschetta with cheese and mozzarella) were ready to go and waiting when our first guests arrived, which was family from out of town, and made it extra nice. We had a very aggressive timeline and expected a few hiccups along the way but the timing was actually pretty flawless on Modern Fine's behalf. The servers were very polite and the bartender was amazing and knew every drink that was asked for. There were a few more mixers we could have supplied to increase the menu but honestly, all our guests were able to find something they liked due to the great suggestions offered up by Angel. As for the food, it was beyond amazing! A buffet of tri-tip, barbecue chicken, mashed potatoes, asparagus spears and two types of salad along with bread and desserts. We have friends and family in the catering and restaurant business and everyone was so impressed. We noticed all the little things they did as well, things like bus plates on time, keep water levels full and garbage from overflowing. We probably could have used an extra server as Gereld suggested just to make it easier on his team, but honestly they stayed on top of everything so well that we didnt even notice. We did feel bad though and added an additional tip to the total to make up for leaving the team short handed (Gereld suggest a 5th server when our guest list expanded to 80, but at the time we had only budgeted for 4 so we declined). Anyway, there was so much food everyone that wanted to was able to go back for seconds, and in addition we still had left overs for the next day. I could go on and on about the service, but I think my 5 Star rating says it all. As a Yelp reviewer it's rare that I give those out, but maybe because it was friends and family and maybe because this was such an important day for my nephew that went flawlessly, I feel this one is well deserved by Modern Fine Catering, Gereld and his entire team.
