I'm visiting Rio Rico, staying as a guest at a friend's house, and I drove to the area in my EV, hoping to be able to charge from a high-voltage outlet at the house. Arrived to find that the car refused to connect due to improper grounding in the outlet, with the nearest fast charger being in Tucson. This was a major handicap for my plans for a week of touring SE Arizona. Since I'm already here, my need was urgent. I Yelped for local electricians and made calls, and the only one who responded at all, and within two hours of my call, was Shandon, the owner of Modern Electric. He was already booked with jobs, but, sympathizing with my situation, he offered to come down late the next day after wrapping up on his scheduled job. After good communication, he arrived at the agreed time and tried to correct the problem, but was unable to do a quick fix due to the poor original wiring job (i.e., would have required running another wire in the house, bigger job). But he improvised a solution on the spot, modifying another available outlet so that my car could connect. Very modest charge. I wanted to install a "generator inter-connect" so that I could hook up our portable generator during any electric company power outage. Running the refrigerator, the freezer, along with a modest number of other 110V items was my desired end result. Unfortunately, our 50-year-old electric service box did not have a main disconnect switch and therefore would not support a generator inter-connect system. We called Shandon Wynecoop, owner of Modern Electric LLC who responded immediately to my request for an estimate. He visited our home, inspected the service, we discussed my desired end result and he submitted an estimate to complete the work. We accepted his proposal. This project went very smoothly. Modern Electric contacted the electric company to 1) schedule a full home electric outage, 2) acquire any needed permits, schedules, and other associated requirements, 3) ordered and received the needed equipment, 4) on the scheduled outage day came and completed replacement of the entire service panel with new, modern equipment including the generator inter-connect equipment, 5) coordinated the power company inspection and re-energizing of the new equipment, and 6) completion and final testing of all equipment and work. Modern Electric did not consider the work was complete until I was totally satisfied. Their rates were in line with and slightly less than other proposals we received. The project was completed smoothly and easily by Modern Electric for the agreed upon price. Shandon Wynecoop is a very nice young man and a pleasure to work with. I hired Modern Electric to install 2 Tesla Wall Connector chargers in my garage. I was able to email the owner, Shandon, high res. photos to get an estimate without needing an on site visit. The price of the estimate was very competitive and I should know since I contacted over a dozen companies to get estimates for this job. Many electricians are not familiar with install EV chargers. Shandon, the owner, came his two other electrician employees to complete the job. They arrived promptly and did very professional work.
