What prompted us to get new roof underlayment was when we notices wood rot on a facia board. When our crew took back tiles to expose that improper drainage we discovered about 6 square feet of damaged underlayment and my concern was how much other damage was up there. The house was built by Robson in early 2009. The felt underlayment was brittle and easily torn. We got a great bid from Modern Desert Roofing and a personal recommendation from our friends who experienced a good outcome. They said they could start on our house in 2 weeks and it would take around 7 work days to complete. The crew worked well together and seemed to enjoy what they were doing. They always took a lunch hour 11-12, and usually left by 3:30 as they had a long commute home. We dealt with Juan who was amazing. The new polymer self adhesive underlayment is so tough and durable and over 100 new tiles were installed but you can't see them as any different from the originals. The bottom line is we now know we have a solid roof system over us and it looks great, and we happily tipped all the crew who kept the job site neat and clean. Very conscientious group of guys. Tony was easy to work with, negotiable re. items like moving a/c, and responsive. MDR matched prices with better quality materials than any other bid. Work was timely and the site was left spic and span. This a rental home and the long-term tenants, who can be picky, were very happy. Also great to report there were NO extra charges on completion. The front office was polite and pleasant but a little flaky, so if the option was available the 5th star could be a half - but closer to 5 than 4. We recently purchased a fixer upper that needed a new roof clay tiles and flat built up sections with elastomeric coating. There was dry rot & termite damage that needed replacing - it was basically a hot mess of a roof. After a little bit of research, reading yelp & google reviews, and a couple of estimates we decided to go with Modern Desert roofing. I think they actually missed our phone call and called us right back! My husband talked to the manager Tony who gave us the roofing material options and quotes. Everything was laid out in clear language and very transparent. Photographs of the roof and areas with bad wood were included. The quotes gave us options for full or partial replacement and also for a selection of materials. We opted for the full replacement - It was not the cheapest nor the most expensive quote but it seemed very fair. We were also confident that they would do a good job for us - which is why we selected them. This communication and decision to move forward was probably in March 2022. We were put on the schedule for 5/2 - they are just finishing up a full roof replacement of and we are very pleased with the work. Some things we noted about Modern Desert Roofing We are not 100% at the property yet so having a reliable & trustworthy company was paramount. We didn't arrive until the day after the work started. They sub-contracted our job out without asking us or even informing us. Poor communication - crew didn't even show on day 2 of a scheduled 3 day job. Left old wires hanging off the roof in front of the house, unpainted trim (even though we selected an edge color for our estimate - the crew had no idea), and they got hot tar splatter on our patio pavers and skylights. We had 2 leaks due to the severe thunderstorms. Tony was the first person who took the time OVER THE PHONE to look at satellite images of my house and talk through possible fixes, sources, and quotes. He and his team communicate through phone, text, and phone. They even return missed phone calls! They fixed the leaks first and then the rest of the house over the course of 2 weeks based on their availability which was fine with us. We didn't have to be there at all. MDC was positively different from 4 other responses we received after requesting quotes and/or proposals. Our project involved a seriously leaking patio bar roof with an AC unit and a large evaporative cooler. We appreciated the specificity of the proposal at the outset, the communication and cooperation with the HVAC and crane crew. The MDC crew was exceptional in the way of accommodating business needs and with cleanup. We reviewed the work on the roof and were very satisfied with our repaired roof, awaiting the next rain. We had received other quotes that were around same price but really liked MDR's responsiveness and they seemed very trustworthy and used quality products. Job was pushed back due to rain delays but once started, workers were here everyday and worked entire day in the heat. Very impressed with their work ethic. My roof was 30 years old and the leaks had started. I got several quotes from roofers around town and Modern Desert beat them all for price hands down. The guys worked hard on the roof and did a great job cleaning up every day. I only ever found one loose nail on the ground. It was windy and rainy so it took them a little longer than planned and there was more fascia needing replaced than we thought. With the extra time and materials needed I was a little worried that the price would jump. It didn't. I paid about $500 more just for material, no additional labor. Our skylight was leaking so we called to get an estimate. They came out and we were quoted and were told we would receive an estimate within a few days. We never received the estimate and called them back to see what happened. They did not answer our call at first and called us back the next day. They said we would receive our estimate soon and we still haven't. This all occurred in March. We have a very old roof that started leaking from all the monsoon rain. We got quotes from five different roofers for a replacement. Modern Desert Roofing was right in the middle price-wise, but I was impressed by their very detailed proposal. They could tell the roof needed a lot of work, but it would be hard to know for certain until they stripped off the old shingles. They gave us a breakdown of different scenarios and the cost of extra materials. We ultimately decided to go with them because of the obvious care they used in providing such a thorough proposal. That attention to detail was present throughout every stage of their work. The crew was friendly, communicative, and did beautiful work. They were very gracious after a slight mix-up in communication (the proposal included removal of two old swamp coolers but they thought it was only one and had already moved on from removal to prepping the underlay). The crew promptly worked to remove the additional cooler without complaint and continued the job. They kept the area tidy as they worked and we were happy to have a completely new roof in less than a week. It started raining the day after they finished and the roof held up great. As expected, they did end up needing to use more materials than quoted (we had SO MUCH rotten wood that needed to be replaced). The office was very apologetic because they said they pride themselves on staying as close to the initial quote as possible, so they opted not to charge for some of the additional work they did on replacing rafters/bird stops. I told them I was happy to pay for all of the work they did and they still refused to charge me for it. It's such a gem to find kind, honest, quality companies to work with. What a fantastic company to work with! We got multiple quotes, but MDR was the most responsive and thorough. Our 20 yr. old tile roof needed the underlayment replaced. They worked with us, answering all our questions about the most suitable material. Unfortunately, our roof was scheduled to be started right in the middle of the heat wave. The entire team working was incredible, and surprisingly the heat didn't seem to slow them down at all. What a great group of hard workers who are extremely knowledgeable in their trade. We tried to get them to come into A/C to cool down, but they said that was harder to readjust after that, so they stayed outside. We can't thank them enough for such a great job.
