I spent Valentine's Day at Topanga nursery with one of my besties. We started the day with a "tai…read morechi with fan" class in the garden with Joelle from Warrior Healing Arts. We stopped back through for a tea and honey tasting in the afternoon. I can't say enough good things about the staff at Topanga nursery. The grounds are surprising. You really have to see it because you can't judge it from the street. There are community classes and activities. Follow their IG and FB pages then go to their website to view a calendar. You can go to the Just Vibes grab a custom coffee and then walk the grounds and speak with the staff about what they offer there as far as trees and plants. They also have beehives and in their gift shop they have every variety of honey you can think of as well as lovely gift items from books to body care to jewelry to honey. It is a hidden treasure in the San Fernando Valley. It's a fun day out for families with kids and just by yourself. Go check them out!

The prices seem very reasonable too. I talked to one of the workers and he was so sweet and answered all of my questions. They were also doing an event for children which is great! Clearly very community oriented which I love. I can't wait to come back to get plants for my yard.

I don't think there's a smarter group of guys working this industry with more passion for the people they serve. The stand out guy for me, George! I have called the store at least four times a week since beginning my plant project and he has been so patient with me. He goes the extra mile every time. Again, everybody there is great but George delivers that special concierge service for me.

From media, fertilizers and nutrients, to plumbing and lighting, to supplements and CO2, to testing and measuring equipment; Green Acres really has it all. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and will offer 30% discount on ALL merchandise to all clients regardless of how you pay; though their CC machine was down when I visited. They have a great selection of everything at very reasonable prices. And if they don't have it, Home Depot is a block away. Store hours are pretty accommodating too, 10 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday and 11 AM to 5 PM on Sunday. Even though I'm a aquarist, I've visited twice just to look around and have found some gear better priced than online or at LFS. I picked up an electronic pH tester and a bottle of reference solution for less than amazon! I wish I was a hobby horticulturist as I would be able to purchase more from Green Acres, they are a great local business with friendly staff and great prices. Check them out!

We visited this nursery for the first time this morning…read more We didn't buy anything, just browsed for now. We were emotional and teary eyed the whole time. This little paradise felt like back home with the fragrance and royal beauty of its rare Persian trees and plants . Justin is very nice and knowledgeable about plants. The high prices are justified for the rare Persian specialties. For the rest of the plants, I am not knowledgeable enough to know. They do not offer free delivery. They also do not offer planting services unless you buy a certain number of trees and the owner approves. I wish they did. Some of us are not able bodied and need a little help planting. Despite the prices, we will come back in a couple of months when it's cool enough to plant and grow and buy what we can afford. Who knows, maybe by then they will offer planting services for a fee. Parking is limited so go early.

And…read moreI wanted to pick up a Myer lemon tree as well since there were none locally grown in my area. I found via Yelp that Paradise Nursery had an array of different types of citrus trees along with other fruit trees that I was interested in. The yellow brick road led us to a very busy free and down to the outskirts of Chatsworth. The exit from the freeway was easy and it took us straight to the nursery. I drove into the parking area and got out into the hot sun!! Citrus trees everywhere!!! It was quiet...strange. I thought there would have been more folks roaming the nursery. Guess what I found out that day as the owner (Shawn) was walking towards us. They were closed and I was trespassing (kidding!) he was nice enough to allow us to stay and find what we wanted to purchase. I felt bad. And also embarrassed at the same time. But here we are. Sixty miles away from home and all I wanted were the lemon trees. Shawn told us we can roam around and see if there was anything on his lot we would like to purchase. After a few minutes of checking out the citrus trees, my older sister wanted to see if there were other "species" of lemons. Lo and behold, she found the Buddha's' Hands and was adamant about bringing one home. Of course I couldn't say no to her so we got a 5-gallon one which had two fruits bearing the stem and then I found a mini Myer lemons and decided to bring both home. The trees came to the total of $118.00 and I cannot be any happier than to have forced my way into Shawn's nursery that day. He was a good sport and answered all the questions I had regarding taking my new plant babies home. Please note the nursery is closed Sunday and Monday. They also do delivery of your purchase to your home or office. I will be stopping by again and I promise this time, it won't be on Sunday!!

I ordered a 60-foot backyard fence through Lowe's Northridge, installed by their contractor,…read moreErgeon. The fence itself is well built and I'm happy with it -- but getting it built was a mess. Twice, the crew simply didn't show up: September 28 and October 2. On the day work finally started, October 3, the materials didn't arrive until 12:30 in the afternoon. A job sold as one day took three (October 3-5). Day one crew ready to leave for the night my yard was left open . No construction barriers, anyone could trespass my animals couldn't go outside without being attended to. Through all of it, the project manager, Jose, never once checked in on the job and eventually stopped answering my texts altogether. Two bright spots deserve naming. The install crew itself arrived early, was courteous, and worked hard in the heat. And once David at Lowe's escalated it and Louis at Ergeon got involved, it was resolved fairly -- a $285 credit posted to my Lowe's account, and a gift basket. I'd buy this fence again. I would not go through this coordination again

Buyer beware if you purchase a BBQ here…read more I purchased a Charbroil Commercial Series Grill and Griddle Combo where Lowe's will put it together and deliver to your home for free because the purchase price was greater than $400. Sounds good so far. They deliver my grill and the griddle has some kind of industrial grease on it. Please note that this is not part of seasoning the griddle as Lowe's does not preseason griddles before delivering. The delivery guys agree that this is strange and they take it back and arrange for another one to be delivered. The second grill and griddle show up with the exact same problem so I send it back again. I get a call from Lowe's asking for clarification on why I keep sending back the grills so I tell them and the rep says she will make a note in the system to make sure when they are putting the grill together that this problem does not happen a third time. Get a call a few days later that it must be a manufacturer's defect as all the the griddles have this exact same problem. Please note that as of a month later Lowe's still has this same BBQ on the floor for sale. I now have to completely cancel the order and get a refund but as multiple departments are involved I keep getting referred to someone else as the person to help me but that person keeps referring me back to the first person. After spending multiple days waiting for the delivery and time on the phone with them I have spend the better part of a day and I still don't have a BBQ. You would think that after all this someone at Lowe's management would call me and try to offer me a good deal on another BBQ but I have never heard anything from them.

If you are looking for anything plant-related, Green Thumb is your place to go. The Canoga Park location is quite large and offers large plants and trees, outdoor plants, indoor plants, patio supplies, bbqs, gardening supplies, and they have garden experts that can advise you if you have questions. You can find anything gardening-related and more! On our most recent visit, we purchased a dwarf madarin orange tree that we are going to grow in a container. We had great help from the staff with picking out a tree, then picking out a container. I wish that I remembered the name of all of the folks that helped up, as each one was great, especially on a really busy day. The one that I do remember is Noah, who was super helpful and friendly. If you sign up on the Green Thumb website for their weekly email newsletters, you will get discount offers.
