Amazing place! My wife is celiac so I always look for a place to get her something that we can share on a Sunday. Some places have a few items here and there, but this store is completely gluten free! Cookies, bagels, cakes and bread! I got a couple bagels, a donut, a slice of Baka bread and a brioche loaf. A bit pricier than normal bakery, but I've cooked gluten free pastries at home. The ingredients aren't cheap! My wife loved it!! Definitely will be back!

Great spot for gluten-free bagels and pastries! They have a large selection of bagels and sweet treats, and they even have some homemade cream cheeses. I also tried their iced coffee, I got the limited edition Tiramisu latte and it was soo delicious. It was a bit pricy though, I think I spent almost $9 on just a regular sized coffee. Overall a cute spot, definitely check it out if you're looking for a gluten-free bagel place!

I wanted to love it. Do not. These bagels are incredibly dense. And hard. Not to my liking. I realize some people like them big and extra firm. For bagels I prefer a more airy boil/bake, softer texture, less dense (and smaller is fine). The bagel softened up a little bit when I threw it in the oven at home. It's a good looking shop and the staff were lovely.

4.5 bit rounding up to 5! Obviously, this is a GF fever dream come true. Pop tarts, bagels, breads, donuts, MORE BREADS! Per usual, I blacked out and ordered a challah, focaccia, parm roll, chocolate rolly thing, Jerusalem Egg sando, spicy feta open face sando, oat milk latte, and their version of a PSL (which was too sweet for me but my partner loved). I waanntt to call 911 to report a crime against me by not having a croissant or pain au chocolat, but I'll hold the phone bc everything was so yummy! The Jerusalem sando was so fresh and delicious on a brioche roll. As I'm writing, I'm lamenting my poor decision to not get a pop tart, but there's always next time. Eat in the alley/breezeway for a tiny escape off the bustlin street. Clean bathroom and pleasant (not warm) customer service.

Everything GLUTEN FREE! it's a Celiac-er dreams come true! We can wake up and experience what everyday ordinary people get to experience on a daily bases! My wife works close to them so it's easy enough for her to pop in and grab extras for the week. Everything is sooooo good! You gotta come Down and check it out !

    8/23/24 No mention whatsoever that's it's a vegan & gluten free bakery!

Date of visit: 8/23/24 At the time when I wrote this, the store had 4.5 stars from 74 reviewers. Originally I wanted to give this store 2 stars (2 because the server was nice, 1 actually for the taste), but then I read the background of the company and finding out that it's a vegan and gluten free bread company that I actually have no business of visiting as I'm not vegan and I'm not gluten shy! Yelp should've put a better description so people like me won't be spending $37 for breads and bagels that are not their preferred taste! Anyways, I bought: 1 butter Croissant: very oily, hard and inside is not airy 3 bagel: hard almost stale-feeling 1 grainless carrot muffin: soft & moist, it has very weird taste. I think it's cardamom 1 cinnamon bun babka slice: stale in the touch & taste not great 1 chocolate babka slice: stale in the touch & taste a bit weird, but not sure what I don't like any of them and for sure won't be coming back.

A cute little gluten free bakery and bagel place! I've been craving bagels and good gf bagels and treats are hard to find. Street parking is a bit hard to find but I got lucky with a spot under a tree in the residential area just half a block away. I got the zaatar egg salad sandwich on a superseed bagel. It was good! The egg salad was really creamy and light and paired well with the tomato and lettuce. I added some tapatio and it was delicious! The bagel was just okay. Because it was so dense and the egg salad was so light, every bite ended up squeezing the egg salad right out of the sandwich. I also got the flourless carrot cake (gf and dairy free!) and it was sooo delicious! So moist, fluffy, and yet with the perfect crumb - I would never have been able to tell it was flourless or gluten free. There aren't a lot of seats available so it's more of a grab and go spot.

I have been following them on social media for quite some time and wondering when I could check them out. Both of their locations are not convenient however I thought it would be easier to park at this location. Street parking during the weekday was easily found. The shop is easy to miss. My cousin walked right past it but that was easily rectified. I loved seeing all the bread and goodies. Grateful they had Gluten Free items with dairy, because so many places have gluten free and dairy free. I like vegan but I'm not vegan. We shared lunch. They had 2 chairs inside which I wish there was a little more seating but I'll get over it. We split the Quiche which we both agreed was our favorite and the open faced bagel sandwich with egg, avocado and feta. I think it was feta. Delicious! Now for the items I brought home. The plain flaky croissant wasn't quite as light as a regular one but the flavor was spot on. I would buy that again. The chocolate rugalech that we sampled was great so I bought the lemon poppyseed. I'll stick with chocolate. I bought chocolate chip cookies. They were okay- other items like the Chocolate Babka are a better buy. Planning on another visit because from Pasadena it's a trek, but so worth it. Oh, and the woman who helped us was awesome. Service was great. Her recommendations were appreciated.

The cinnamon roll (warmed up) was legit.
    Krissy P.

The brioche donut was dynamite. I also had an excellent latte. At home, I warmed up the cinnamon roll and was thrilled by how good it was. The shop is welcoming, well-organized, and comfortable. I was promptly greeted and the staff were very friendly. Definitely, a must stop for the gluten free diner.

MY FAVORITE BAGEL PLACE EVER. Being gluten intolerant I appreciate gluten free facilities like modern bread and bagel. The bagels are so SO good and there's a good variety. So glad they brought this place to the west coast because I come here everytime I'm in LA. If you are gluten intolerant or celiac it's completely safe to eat here as they are a dedicated gluten free facility. They also have lots of vegan and dairy free options as well. Their pastries are very good as well.

It poured this morning, but before I went to my PT in Santa Monica the sun came out, the sky was blue with beautiful puffy white clouds and all was good in LaLaLand. I decided to check out a new bakery on Montana in Santa Monica called Modern Bread & Bakery. This joint took the place about a year ago of BreadBock and it claims to have award-winning bagels. I hope with my lower bar that they are just very good because everything in this bakery is gluten-free. Being born in NY but raised in Venice CA, I have had great bagels, then becoming Celiac 25 years ago I have had GF bagels that might be better used for ring toss. Over the past number of years as my disease has exploded, I have discovered fantastic Pizza, pasta, pastries and even cannolis that are close and sometimes as good or better than their wheat counterparts. Here, the donuts, cakes, and bagels look spectacular. I ordered one bagel of the month, an all everything bagel, a caramel Twix Babka and a glazed brioche doughnut that the server behind the counter said was their best seller. I have not tried everything but the everything bagel was everything I hoped and the donut was very good. So the proof is in the babka, or is that bagel? Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion of the Agony or the Ecstasy.

I am so excited and blessed to have a gluten free bakery back in this space on Montana. I tried modern bread and bagel last Saturday and already had to go back for more goodies. For non celiac people, remember that it is easy to take being able to eat normal bread products for granted. When us celiacs have the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful bread product that is as close to the real thing as possible, it's truly a moment to be cherished. The bagels at modern bread and bagel and hands down the best gluten free bagels u have ever had. They are so flavorful and the closest thing I have experienced next to the gluten containing counterpart. My partner barely could tell the difference. The shroom sandwich is addicting. I love the mushroom patty so much. I like to add a nice vegan cream cheese and need to eat it once a week. I also adore their donuts. From the glazed strawberry and chocolate to the Boston cream pie, all of the donuts are super fluffy and delicious. I cannot wait to come back and continue bringing friends. Thank you for giving the celiac community the opportunity to finally enjoy.

The back patio is especially lovely; modern yet cozy, with thoughtful decor. The food blends California-fresh ingredients with Turkish and Middle Eastern flair. I was seated outside with a view of a busy road intersection, which made for nice people watching. The menu didn't have any stand-out dishes that you couldn't find at any other brunch place and there were barely any savory vegetarian options. I went with the Napa scramble. The scramble itself was very heavy on the spinach and light on the sun-dried tomatoes, which made for a not great texture and duller flavor. I did appreciate the bites with the creamy, tangy goat cheese. The toast was just ok and the strawberry jam it came with was very runny. I did enjoy the fresh greens on the side that were lightly dressed.

A little on the watery side. Chicken bites came out in about 15 minutes. The coating had a very satisfying crunch, very saucy, but fell off the chicken easily and was a bit salty. This is a messy dish for sure. You will get your hands dirty! Chorizo Benedict came out about 30 minutes after order. Not great honestly. Portion size was generous. The eggs were poached decently, still runny, but the chorizo itself was bland and rather dry. The potatoes were room temperature. The bread a bit too chewy. Not AT ALL spicy. Super light on the pico de gallo. The service was rather slow for not being very busy. They didn't appear to be understaffed either. The location itself is cozy and not too loud, which is nice! Short walk from down town. The staff was kind, but boy were they slow. From being seated to paying for my meal was well over an hour! Automatic 2.5% "service fee" total was $46.50 before tip. We were moved from our first room because the shower wouldn't drain properly, only to be assigned a room where the bathroom sink did not drain. Aaron, the manager was very empathetic and offered various ways to accommodate us for the subpar experience (restaurant bill adjustment, late check-out) , which we appreciated, but declined. All we really wanted was a good experience. The only direct request we had after speaking with Aaron was to have our bed re-made so we could nap before leaving. In fairness, we requested this from the a front desk attendant after they could not locate Aaron directly. However despite being assured that it would happen, it never did. Very unfortunate as we really wanted to like this property given the location. Other, albiet smaller issues included our lunch order being initially incorrect as there was a menu change but the chefs didn't know about it. Our server was very nice and apologetic. My wife was asked and requested a warm room for her spa service but it didn't happen. Also, someone walked in during the middle of her treatment looking for something. We had to walk around to find a server for the pool restaurant after waiting ~10 minutes for someone to arrive. With all of this, we would consider giving it another try namely because of the location and because everyone was courteous despite not delivering, but that would be a tough decision with other proven 5 star properties in the vicinity.

This place is charming and we got sat indoors overlooking the pool. It really felt like I was in another city somewhere. The servers and hosts were very attentive and very helpful answering any questions. Everything everyone ate look absolutely fantastic. Drinks: sunset spritz was a wonderful spin on the classic aperol but it had Vodka in it so it gave it an extra kick, but did not taste boozy. I also had the cucumber marg and our server asked me if I would like some Jalapeno slices in it and it really elevated the whole experience. Apps: the PEI mussels were beautifully arranged and the curry sauce that it in was very flavorful. I highly recommend this as a starter. The steak tartar was a whole show, the server walked out with a glass case that was ultra smoky, which they opened in front of you. It was a dinner and a show!! The tartar was very delicious. If you're a tartar fan, you have to get this. Wedge salad deserves it's only paragraph! It was huge, the pecans were a nice touch.
