What an absolutely wonderful pizza place! Our Airbnb owners recommended it as the best pizza in the area, and now we know why. We went with a cauliflower crust on their "Calexico pizza" (Southwest Chicken with jalapeños) and had the middle size, which was perfect for both of us. We also chose the medium-size Italian salad, which was also perfect for sharing between two eaters. Back in Oklahoma City, the "Upper Crust Pizza"joint has lately been our favorite date spot, in part because of their Italian salad. Mod Pizza's Italian salad was really good, and I know we're going to be back here a lot. Their woodfired pizza is the real deal. Can't wait to try some more flavors. We ate there earlier today, and I got the same thing I always do. Normally we visit the location on South Tryon, but we decided to give the one in Matthews a shot, because we live closer to this location. I usually get a white pizza with chicken, extra mushrooms, black olives, spinach, and pesto. My partner normally gets the Mad Dog. Immediately after coming home, we both started to feel under the weather. We think this could be due to the workers not changing their gloves when they started on our pizzas. Initially, I thought about leaving because they were out of mushrooms. I decided to give them a chance because their truck shorting them on inventory isn't really their fault. However, they could have easily found an alternate source for mushrooms, because I was not the only customer that was disappointed. While making my pizza, they decided to use what little chicken was left in the box, rather than grabbing more, so I only had the little bits of chicken that one would find at the bottom of a bag, rather than the larger pieces I'm used to seeing at MOD. When my pizza came out, they hammered it with the pesto, so much so that it was dripping off of my pizza, big time. I had never had so much pesto on my pizza before. I love pesto, but it was so aggressive, it made it really hard to enjoy my pie. It was a Sunday, so I figured they had been super busy, and I wanted to give them some grace instead of complaining, so I decided to enjoy the pizza as best as I could. On top of everything else, I found a hair on one of my pieces that was quite obviously not mine, and could be identified as belonging to one of the younger guys behind the counter. I decided not to say anything, as it was the last piece, and I didn't want to cause any trouble. I was super disappointed in this location, because MOD is one of our favorite places to go. I was so disappointed in this experience. We will likely not be returning to this location. I would especially avoid this location at all costs around dinnertime on a Sunday. read more

I love Mod pizza, although you have to go inside the store to really get what you want. Let me explain - if you want to ensure that they put extra toppings on your pizza when requested - go inside. With a drink I think the total was about $25 or so. My husband said both Caspian pizzas tasted weird, the chicken was chewy . On top of the incorrect order, the manager had a negligent attitude, she cut me off on the phone so I hung up and she was completely rude to my daughter picking up the pizza, slamming things , telling my daughter the owner wasn't there and giving her full sarcasm . Love MOD Pizza. But the Matthew's location has not been up to par lately. First person making the pizzas didn't put any of the ingredients on the predefined pizza. I put olives on my pizza. I bit into one and it had a pit. I just about creaked my tooth. I do not know any of the people names, but one person made the experience terrible. I hope they get better. read more

I always enjoy MOD pizza. The workers at this location were a bit all over the place. It felt like there was too many cooks in the kitchen that were unsure what they were supposed to be doing. They were all very friendly though. I got a salad that was great and my dad got a pizza he was happy with. My main complaint is that they gave me a plastic bowl for my salad even though I was eating in. I hate seeing wasted plastic knowing our planet is already so polluted. And they had so much plastic cups and silverware out by the drink station, I would love to see more reusable items. read more

Came here for the first time and had high expectations when I walked in and then it all just went downhill from there. Long line to stand in as you have a way overcrowded pizza bar area where 3 times as many employees as should be standing there make your pizza. No one asks if you have been here or know what to do. Once through the line it isn't clear if you stand and wait, someone brings it out or how long it might take. After watching realize they scream your name and you retrieve your za. After about 15 minutes 2 of my 3 pizzas were done. 10 minutes later, or more, I finally go and ask about the 3rd pizza. It is randomly produced 2 minutes later with burnt edges and barely cut through. After sitting idle this whole time watching the scene behind the counter you have one employee running around like crazy cutting pizza and yelling names and then the other 12 employees are standing behind the counter chatting with each other and obviously getting all of the pizzas out of line order to go in the oven. Looks like some additional employee training is needed. Hopefully that happens as the pizza isn't terrible, or probably wouldn't be if it wasn't burnt. read more

I had been in the restaurant business for 18 years and "impressed" doesn't even begin to describe it!I am not a pizza fan AT ALL but this past Thursday I traveled up to the area from Greensboro to Door Dash in a new city for a change and I received a delivery from MOD Pizza. While conversing with the female manager (didn't catch her name), I mentioned how I had never been to a MOD before. She was so generous to offer me dinner after I finished the delivery... the only words I can find to describe my experience is LIFE-CHANGING! This place is a nice addition to the make your own pizza experience. We were greeted when we walked through with several friendly hellos! They are super fast too. As you go through the line you pick all your toppings and they have a huge selection. My family was finally able to get what they want instead of agreeing to the same toppings on one pizza. We were getting close to spending $50 so Makayla suggested that we buy the special gift card which is buy a gift card for $50 and get an extra $10. Our meal was a little over $50 so now I have a gift card to return for the balance. Pizza was cooked perfectly. The garlic strips were pretty basic. Just thin and crispy crust with garlic topping. I ordered a to-go order for myself and a friend: two build-your-own mini pizzas. We were super excited because we had heard really good things about Mod. Once we got back to the house and checked our orders, we were both disappointed. I can't eat dairy, so mine was supposed to have no cheese, but was covered in cheese when I opened it. Hers was supposed to have bacon but had chicken, and was missing several other toppings she had ordered. Hers was also way smaller than mine even though we both ordered minis. Since we were already home and hungry we still ate the pizzas. I peeled off the cheese as best I could and she said that though her pizza was wrong, it was pretty tasty. I LOVE MOD pizza. I order from this location because they actually follow instructions. My ONLY MAJOR ISSUE with THIS particular location is taping boxes. I have a problem that during a global pandemic they CAN'T take the time to tape boxes shut when being picked up by a delivery service. I'm honestly sick and tired of having to call the store to make sure my pizza boxes are sealed before DoorDash picks it up. I guess I will just have to walk in to a location and get my pizza from strawberry hill. I didn't even bother to call and gripe about it tonight.
