Behind glass, a wide selection of bakery items gawks at its onlookers, each one promising warmth against the indifferent machinery of the day in their little hands. It is a popular place of respite, and therefore it suffers the punishment of being loved. On weekends, the line can become long, a procession of the hopeful and under-caffeinated picking at greeting cards, dreaming of holidays that never were. There are few places to sit. But this is not a tragedy. The people do not linger. They arrive, receive their steam-choked sacrament, and disappear back into the wet, ethereal theater of Edmonds. The one drawback I think is that most of their donuts are too sweet. While everything else is addicting, the sweetness can quickly catch up and make you feel sick of sugar. Then again, the fluffy, airy texture is so addicting, so it's an internal battle.
