We tried Mocha Motts for a Saturday coffee and bagel. I tried an iced mocha and found it just OK. I was hoping it would be amazing considering their name has mocha in it, but oh well. I also tried a sesame bagel with cream cheese. They forgot about our bagels so we did wait about 10 minutes until we eventually asked about it and received our food. So hopefully this is just a one off but the service was a bit confusing and slow. The bagel itself was pretty solid and hit the spot. The cream cheese was the superstar though. This is the only place that has opened early as 6am (4/29) on the Island , so we tried it. Coffee had strong acidity which my husband and I don't like, so we didn't enjoy as much as we hoped for, and it was weak even though we got extra shot. If someone prefers acidity and not so strong , go for it. We wanted to get muffins but they only had a few of them ( not fresh) so we both got bagels , they were just ok-ish even though they bake in the shop. prices were reasonable though. read more

Be sure to bring cash and be prepared to wait. One of the few places on the island for coffee, this is a fun place to stop, grab a coffee and sit outside to people watch for a little. Came here for the first time today, and was unfortunately not very impressed. The iced mocha was way too sweet. It tasted more like chocolate milk than a mocha, and they should ask if you want whipped cream on it before putting it on. Bagel with lox was ok, but barely had any lox on it. Guurrrrllll! This location is 50x better than the OB location! And they do take credit cards, so save your dollar for the ladies at the strip club! Aid you're a cream cheese lover, this is your spot! The (I assume Owner) is not friendly. And the coffee is subpar. Actually the coffee kinda stinks. I ordered an iced latte. It was all milk. Because after I complained it only has "one shot in it". Mocha Motts is a cash-only, small town feel coffee stop for those in town that's good for some quick work. Came in here to get a little caffeine boost and some work done on my computer. The aesthetic of the place is a little dive-y, as others have mentioned. Many of the booths needed a little bit of touching up, but it was a good place to work without being too crowded on the early afternoon of Friday before July the 4th. Coffee was a reasonable price, although it wasn't anything to write home about. Typical mass-produced coffee that wasn't burnt in nature. One complaint was that they left a ton of room in the cup, presupposing that you wanted to add a significant amount of cream to your drink. When I tried to sit down to work, it ended up that the outlet next to me wasn't working anymore, which was a bit unfortunate. Otherwise, the table was a bit small for three people to work (with two computers), so keep that in mind. There were three booths, one of which we were sitting at, and then a few tables, but it wasn't a big place by any means. Didn't notice if they had any internet access, although they did have xfinity available that I ended up using instead. Nice place to quickly catch up on some work that I needed to do, although it was lacking a few aspects that would've been great! read more

I appreciate the different tea options for the non-coffee drinker. The iced green tea is nice and minty. I found the iced chai to be tasty, but too heavy on the milk and light on the chai. A great neighborhood spot and community resource for downtown Vineyard Haven, as evidenced by the chatty staff, extensive array of events posted on the board opposite the ordering counter, and a consistent flow of people coming in and out of the cafe, or enjoying themselves in the outdoor seating area, at any time of the day. But I also find this place to be somewhat grimy, the titular mochas to be not especially flavorful, and some of the food offerings to be less tasteful than they could be, so I think I will be sticking to lattes and other more basic drinks as time goes on. It's surprising that they don't offer a wifi connection. Nonetheless, the cafe is a perfect place to get the pulse of downtown VH on any given day, and has become a community magnet since Mott's expanded over here sometime in the mid 2000's from their original location in Oak Bluffs. I went here to grab a cup of coffee while exploring Martha's Vineyard. The place was packed like visitors. The coffee tasted average and there wasn't anything in particular special about it. Staff took a long time to get my order. It appeared as though they completely forgot my order until I reminded then I existed. My friend liked her ginger tea and wished she got a bigger cup one. Mott's is a long term survivor here on Main Street, Vineyard Haven, which has seen many changes over the years. The nicest part about this branch of Mocha Mott's is the outdoor seating area, which the Oak Bluffs location can not offer. It is inevitable that you will see someone you know sitting out in the sunshine, watching the world go by. It's a treat when you can land a coveted seat yourself. Mott's also has several tables inside and always has local art work displayed. The bulletin board in the back is a great place to get a feel of the real island vibe. Apartments for rent, yoga classes, bikes for sale and landscaping opportunities are all advertised. Posters for local comedy shows, art openings and pot lucks might tempt you into attending a fun event. The Mott's menu is a fairly limited one, featuring baked goods and coffee. Some of the pastries are dry and all are overpriced. The hot coffee is never quite hot enough or quite strong enough. Some of the same people have been working here for years. You may find some with an attitude, but they are just trying to move the line along; if they don't act like they want to chat, it's got nothing to do with you. Get your coffee and move out of the way so the people behind you can order. That's all. Open year round, unlike so many other places in VH. Go for the outdoor seating in the sunshine. You'll get a real sense of the island as you sip your coffee and take in the scene. read more

I've been to Mocha's on a few occasions, and while I can't say it's anything extraordinary or even special, it is a warm, friendly neighborhood place to come, have a seat or get your goodies to go and recharge. They have a pretty great selection of teas in addition to all of their fancy coffees, and during the holidays serve hot apple cider and flavored drinks. They also have a boat load of baked goods, and since they're only a short walk from the VH ferry terminal, it's a great option for waiting for your boat. I usually go for a cup of tea (as I mentioned, they have a large selection of both herbals and breakfast teas) and the peanut butter cookie. The cookies are big and rather fluffy, which I don't love but will do when I need a quick snack. The staff is young yes, but I've never found them to be anything but friendly and efficient. You can expect the usual curtness in the summertime, but hey - it's downtown VH at the hight of the season. read more

I have loved this coffee shop ever since Mott first opened it years ago! It's not fancy, but the Iced Mochas are delicious and refreshing on a hot summer afternoon. The iced coffee is tasty, too. And you never have to worry about finding cream for your coffee, because there's a dorm fridge right there under the cream/sugar counter full of different forms of milk (dairy and otherwise) for your use! This coffee shop is WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE, has plentiful seating both indoor and out, and always has great music playing at a reasonable volume. It's eclectic, sure, and you never know whether it'll be Billy Holiday, Tom Waitts, or Christmas music in September, but I've always found it pleasant and not so loud that it impedes my ability to carry on a conversation with my coffee companions. Sometimes simplicity really IS the best thing. Hours change regularly, depending on the season, so if you're heading over there in the evening after Labor Day, best to call ahead just to make sure they're actually open. read more

Very cool place that happened to be right next to my hotel so it was perfect for coffee on the run! The place is decorated very hipster but it just works. It's a small place but they have a few tables. I went for the coffee and realized that they also have breakfast and lunch available so I'll have to come back and check that out. I ordered one of their winter specials called mocha mint latte with soy milk and both ladies behind the counter were really nice taking my order and helping me decide on what to get. I did think this place was a bit overpriced but I also do know that I'm in the vineyard so it's normal. The coffee was delicious and did not need anything added to it. I ran into this one for a quick caffeine fix because I was attending an event at the nearby Mansion House.
