I have anxiety about contractors working on my home; 1) can they be trusted? 2) will they over charge me? 3) can I feel safe with who enters my home? These fears are common to homeowners. Since writing this review, several things have happened: 1) I am being threatened with a lawsuit by the owner of the company, Jerry Griffin, because of the review and given a few days to take it down, "or else." Yes, he put it in an email to me and I'm willing to publish it. 2) The owner of the company has replied to my review listing my full name and place of residence, which is personal information and should be confidential. I am pretty certain that violates Yelp guidelines. I don't mind my name being out there but my address has nothing to do with this and could put me, a female, in a security risk position. So here is my edited review: 1) After much haggling and with a third party intermediary, the windows were installed at the price originally agreed upon. In a separate agreement directly with the installer I chose to have additional work done. I paid the installer directly. 2) The install went well and Emerson and the guys at Covenant Glass (subcontractor) were professional, courteous and did outstanding work. I would recommend them in a heartbeat. They are a subcontractor and, as far as I know, are not beholden to Discount Windows and Doors. 3) The windows work well and as advertised. And to rebut the owner's comments to my original posting: My issue with the company was not that they did not come to measure the window openings before hand, but that they had one subcontractor come and measure the window openings before purchase then changed installation subcontractors and gave us a much higher invoice for installation once the windows came in. And this price increase was done without the second installer coming to see the condition of the window opening, etc. The second subcontractor first gave a price by mistake. We can live with that. Then gave another price that was still higher than the original, which was unacceptable. After many discussions with an intermediary the windows went in at the originally agreed upon price. Again, I chose to have additional work done so I created a separate agreement with the subcontractor and paid him directly. The way that Jerry treated us during the dispute was unprofessional, in my view. Over the phone in one sentence he quoted us three different prices for the install, then said it was his right and "industry standard" to increase the price. That was my biggest complaint and the thing that set me over the edge. He was unwilling to abide by the original price quoted for the install. If he has nothing to do with the install and it's a contract between the installer and the homeowner then he should not be providing a quote at all. I also take issue with his publishing my home address. There has got to be a violation in there somewhere and if push comes to shove I'm sure there is an attorney out there who will help me get some money off him if I really want to go that route. I don't really want to do that but if I am pushed I will definitely push back. Would I recommend anyone buy anything from Discount Windows and Doors? Absolutely not. You can get the same windows elsewhere without the hassle. Make sure you call Emerson at Covenant Glass to do the install. My best advice is to get everything in writing. Don't pay 100% up front. And have your attorney take a look at the contracts. It's worth it in the long run. The fact that the owner of Discount Windows and Doors is willing to take legal action because of a negative review (of which there are several about his company here on Yelp but he chose to single me out specifically) is telling. The funny thing is that prior to his making a to do about this review, I would guess only a handful of people would even take the time to look at it. Since he chose to escalate many many more people have taken a look to see what the hubbub is all about. ******************************* I can only hope that people will not be like me and actually check the Yelp reviews BEFORE choosing to do business with Discount Windows & Doors. Jerry talks a good game but you have to listen closely to what he says because he will use many words in an attempt to bamboozle you. Long story short we bought windows from them and when it came time to install they jacked the price of installation 40% and claimed it was "industry standard" and they had the right to do so. And here's the thing: They increased the install price WITHOUT EVEN COMING TO OUR HOME TO INSPECT THE WINDOWS. Jerry went so far as to say that we could find another installer to put the windows in for us. Well, here's something: I bought the windows with the installation, not just the windows. If only a ZERO were possible!!! I bought windows and doors for an entire new house, having believed Jerry Griffin's sales pitch. I spent well over $14,000 with DWD. Beware: BEFORE the sale, he makes promises he doesn't keep. For example: a few of the windows ordered were incorrect sizes - very common sizes - and he'd offered to buy them back if that happened. Instead, he told me: "...sell them on CraigsList and re-order the new windows at FULL price." He'll take your money but leave you on your own to deal with any issues that might come up. #1 Biggest Lesson for new home builders: beware "discounters", because truly, you get what you pay for. Russell states "When you did make the purchase I did meet with you at your home again to have you sign the contract and to get payment for the sliding door. You had a clear understanding of what you are ordering. At no time did I mislead you in any way selling you the wrong product. You were clear at that time and because of your rush requirements for the door, you accepted, signed and paid for the stock door so you could have the door in time for your construction." WELL CHALK UP ANOTHER LIE from the Snake Oil Salesman who probably tried to use his email communication as documentation that he fully informed me of the door I purchased opened on the WRONG Side because I was in a Rush? HECK I would NEVER Knowingly buy a door that opened inches from my Wall unit at the end of my living/dining room to squeeze through the dining table & bookcase to get out to the Patio??? I would NOT want the wind blowing on my Bookcase instead of ventilating the living areas??? HANDS DOWN I would buy an $800 Sliding Patio Door @Lowe's or Home Depot in Stock -- that OPENED ON THE CORRECT SIDE -- than buy a door that would be so WRONG WRONG WRONG for all the given reasons - Rush or No Rush - I WOULD NOT BUY THE WRONG DOOR even IF it was the Only one in stock. So I was "forced" to go with Prestige Glass Tinting as our condo, Pacifica, told us we "had to use them" and I was not too happy with not being given a choice about tinting companies. However, they crew just left my condo and all I can say is, thank you for being such a professional, reasonably priced, efficient, and awesome company. I improved my previous rating by one star because their after sales service has been excellent in terms of fixing torn or damaged screens and binding (binding because of dirt) doors. They did contact me at one time to ask what they could do to improve my impression of them, and I said they could replace the glass in the two doors that I complained about. Horrible! Don't Do Business Here!! 9 months of Horrible customer service and an incomplete job!! Like others, I would give a "0" Star if I could. I spend thousands of dollars on replacement windows for my entire house from this seller, Discount Windows and Doors. Their showroom is in Kaneohe next to Windward Nissan. Although they were helpful initially, we had some concerns over their salespeople not being available, and other salespeople not helping out when ours was on vacation (you just gotta wait??). Eventually we made the largest mistake of our home improvement carreer and placed our order but was required to pay in full since the order was a "special order." Aren't virtually all windows custom sized? This was our first mistake. From the time we paid on, it was all downhill. The windows took extra long to get here, they claimed some of the large ones were broken, although they were delivered directly to our home and we suspect it didnt get ordered correctly in the first place (i.e, it didnt show up broken). So then we had stacks of giant boced windows in our hallway for 2 months before the installer could make it to do the install. The installers they used are packaged with the windows but appear to be indepent contractors. Luckily, we didnt pay them a dime. He kindly broke several of our tiles in various areas of install and has not returned to fix them. When the large windows arrived, they were delivered and the whole waiting process repeated. Then we noticed we didnt receive the night locks we ordered. In addition, we are still missing ANY lock for one window AND a screen! The installer (Dave) made 2 additional appointments to complete the locks and the screen (and possibly tile repair) but no-showed each time without calling. We have sent multiple emails and left countless voicemails for our salesperson Keola, Jerry the owner, and Dave the installer. We are filing with the BBB and arranging to have the job completed by another company. NO MATTER WHAT PRICE THEY GIVE YOU OR HOW NICE THEY APPEAR, TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! Discount Windows and doors or Windows, Doors and Cabinets is the same outfit with poor service and even worse quality products! We purchased a set of 3 Awning Windows from them in 2009, the brand Cascade Windows was advertised by them as a quality product with a lifetime warranty. After four year's we started having issues with these windows! The extension hinges that open and close started to rust and the connector devices that attach the window and frame fell apart. An attempt to fix them was made when they sent out a repairman at the time to replace the attachment piece. Now several years later the windows are again non functional, all the attachment parts have fallen apart, the gears that open the windows are rusted, all screws holding hardware to windows are rusted and they will not close all the way. I contacted Discount Windows and was told that it's not a warranty issue, because the "Lifetime Warranty" only cover's the vinyl part of the Window! Because of our "Harsh" weather conditions the entire warranty does not pertain to us! I live miles away from the water and any direct salt spray, and at a higher elevation on a dry area of the Island. After countless additional emails to both Discount and Cascade Windows they have finally sent me replacement parts that connect the extension arm to the window, but would not supply labor to install them. So after installing myselft, they still do not close all the way due to rust in the gears and it does not fix all the screws that are rusting! The 22 year old windows installed in my "Tract Home" are by no means high quality and are still in better shape than these windows. I would avoid Discount Windows and Doors and Cascade Windows at all cost's in the future. read more

Got my car tinted today, and I admit it has been long overdue. I contacted Tyler a week prior to get a quote and he was prompt with his reply. He even honored a military discount after I asked about it after reading a fellow yelper's review. I dropped by about 30 mins early and Tyler kindly went over his suggestions on the tint he offered. He also explained the differences, pros and cons of each level of film. After all of that I chose to go with the cheaper film, however he stated it was still a very good quality film. He explained that the film comes with lifetime guarantee on the installation and the film itself, which covers everything minus gouging and dog saliva. He had my car done in about 3 hours. Which was not a big deal seeing how his shop is right across the street from Windward mall (and a five minuet walk from home) very easy to pass the time. The tint job looks great and I couldn't have been happier! PROS: Very knowledgable, Great price, Nice clean shop, Close to the mall, Fast Friendly service, Lifetime warranty on product and installation. Cons: The high end film is a bit pricey I would definitely recommend Prestige Glass Tinting if you are on the Windward side and even if you are not, swing by because its conveniently located near the mall and you could easily pass the time while your car gets tinted. read more

Awesome business for tinting your car windows! I called yesterday (1 Aug 2014) after I found out my car tint was too dark on the driver and passenger side windows. I called at the end of the day and spoke with Tyler and said it'd be no problem to bring it by the next day (a Saturday mind you) to measure the tint and give me a quote. Bring the car in and the tint measures too dark. Tyler then tells me he can squeeze me in right then and there gives me an awesome deal on removal and re-tint to pass safety inspection and lifetime warranty with the tint. Was literally done in 1 hour with no prior appointment! I have to say customer service was phenomenal and professionalism was top notch the guys were friendly and understanding and not enough good things can be said about the crew at Prestige. We purchased our windows, doors and blinds from Discount Windows. Most recently were the blinds. It took about 6 months for the blinds to come in - communication problem between Discount Windows and manufacturer. Paul, our sales person, was on top of it. He contacted the manufacturer, had them expedite the order and covered the FEDEX cost to get them to us. Their installer, David Pirrog scheduled to install three weeks later. That's why I rated the four stars for the blinds. The doors and windows we had installed about 5 years ago, I would rate them a 5 star. everything went smoothly.
