Dr. Cortez misdiagnosed my cat's problems. While two other vets said my cat had kidney disease, Dr. Cortez said my cat did not have kidney disease because his creatine level was normal. My cat had an SDMA level of 20, which puts him in stage two kidney disease. All I had to do was look up the blood test results online, which said you can have a normal creatine level, but if the SDMA is high, kidney disease is present. He also miscommunicated with me several times regarding my cat's dentistry. First he told me that my cat needed three days of fluids before the dentistry, but he didn't tell me it involved leaving my cat in the hospital for three consecutive days, which would have cost me thousands of dollars. When I told him I could not afford this, he miscommunicated with me again when he said I could bring my cat in for fluids for a week before the dentistry, because then he later explained he wanted me to bring in my cat for a month of visits for fluids before the dentistry. Because Dr. Cortez did not communicate effectively about what was actually involved in giving my cat fluids, I was very confused. He needs to explain in thorough detail what he wants done with your cat, which he did not do with me. read more

Once I got past his quirks, such as preferring to sell dog meds directly for cash or recording medical history on handwritten notes, I realized that Dr. Cortes is a thoughtful, knowledgeable, and caring veterinarian. He was the vet I turned to as my prior dog. Dr. Cortes recognized the level of care I thought was appropriate for a dog in his twilight years. He is now my vet for two much younger active dogs. They dogs love him, and he loves the dogs. Dr. Cortes is great with follow-up and ensuring owners' diligent care. He's not beholden to a hedge fund or large corporation like some other local vets, which means he recommends treatments that he truly believes is necessary. read more

This vet clinic used to be called Mobile Vet Forest Hills. Back then it was owned and run by Dr. Howard Nachamie. Dr. Nachamie retired last year, and the clinic was taken over by Dr. Alexander Cortes. Over a dozen vets have examined my cats. This one is by far the worst medically. Misdiagnosed everything. Wasted time and money. Did more harm than good. I brought one of my cats in. The vet didn't ask me about my cat's medical history and didn't read the records I had emailed. Without knowing anything about my cat, he injected my cat with something. Turns out it was an unnecessary rabies vaccine, since my cat already had a rabies vaccine that year. And since the vaccine contains a live virus, injecting it into cats that are not healthy (such as immune-compromised cats) can be harmful. Of course he didn't know whether my cat was immune-compromised and apparently didn't care. He just injects things. On one occasion, my other cat was scratching his ears. The vet said it was allergies and gave my cat an expensive shot for allergies. The shot didn't help. Another issue: the vet said my cat didn't need to be on kidney support food because his kidney values were normal. This is incorrect reasoning. My cat's kidney values were normal only because he was on kidney support food. When he wasn't on kidney support food, his kidney values were abnormal. Later, the vet contradicted himself and said my cat did have kidney disease. And the worst issue: my cat had episodes where he was lying on the floor, panting, drooling, breathing rapidly. The vet looked at my cat and ordered an irrelevant abdominal ultrasound. The vet did not listen to my cat's breathing. He also gave my cat subcutaneous fluids. He told me not to go to the emergency room because he could do the ultrasound for less. Although he couldn't do it today; it had to be tomorrow. I should have ignored his advice because the next day he said he couldn't do it, it would need to wait another day. Same thing the day after that, and the day after that. Delayed treatment by a week, then arrived at yet another incorrect diagnosis. After that, I took my cat to the emergency room. The diagnosis was simple. I told them about the breathing-related symptoms. The other vet examined my cat and listened to his breathing. They suspected there was fluid in his chest. Then they did a chest X-Ray and confirmed there was fluid in his chest. The chest fluid was making it hard for my cat to breathe (hence the panting and rapid breathing). They drained the fluid, and my cat felt better. To me, it seems like a simple process: when there's unusual breathing, listen to the breathing. The vet at this clinic failed to do that. He did the exact opposite of what he should have done, since giving fluids rapidly only added to the fluid in my cat's chest. Delayed treatment and made the problem worse. It's safe to say my cats would have been better off not seeing a vet at all than coming here. read more

Dr. Cortez has been incredible with my dog Pepper. She struggled with chronic ear infections for years and every vet I went to prescribed me the same antibiotic and told me I wasn't treating her properly. Dr. Cortez was the first one to actually listen and help. He got a specialist to develop a formula specifically to treat her based on what they found in her tests. It worked! Recently my precious girl was very sick and Dr. Cortez guided us to another specialist and helped us get a diagnosis. He also reached out to check in on her. He really cares! So yeah, the office may be disorganized sometimes, but the care that Dr. Cortez has shown my baby is unparalleled. I would definitely recommend you give him a shot! read more

I do not recommend this vet-I have take my dog here for his annual shots and returned for my dogs eye discomfrot . My husband had asked for the prescription initially but the doctor gave him a difficult time and we went with his $80 eye ointment available at the store. The dog has not improved and when I called he told me then my dose was incorrect (the dose in the actual box). I needed to be giving the ointment extra... ok. He never communicate that to anyone. I asked again for the prescription .. again a hard time. When I went to pick it up he screamed at me for being cheap and I have never been there ever and I'm difficult. He kept saying how I had not been there - as if a new customer doesn't have vidity.This is being screamed at me at the top of his lungs. I was not aware this was a full on flight- complete unhunger over my reuqest. Terrible service and if you do go there be ready to have a doctor add on as many medications that are extras in a blink of an eye. BE CAREFUL! read more
