I am sorry I ever did business with El. I have known him for only a year but thought he was a pretty honest straight shooter until he took over $600 worth of stuff from me in exchange to paint 2 small areas on my car. When I chased him for 2 months to paint my car, I finally realized I was taken advantage of, he had no intentions on ever painting my car or he would have kept his promise made with a trusting gentleman's hand shake. When I asked for the items back that he took in exchange to paint my car, he told me he sold them on eBay. How do ya like that for honesty? What a thieving lying jerk to take advantage of this recent widow who trusted you as the friend I thought you were. Karma will get you El for being the kind of person you really are. Truth be told, the owner AL is about low as they come. Rude, disrespectful and would at all cost AVOID this business.Total rip-off artist. Al said " if you're 10 minutes early, you're late." Due to heavy construction on my way there, I was 10 minutes late. Upon picking up my car noted the interior wasn't cleaned. Only the driver's side floor mat. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED! MY CAR WAS NOT CLEANED AT ALL! Al Harmsen is the owner and person who actually did the work. I have one of his business cards in my hand as I'm writing this. He gave me this card as a receipt only after I told him I needed one. It is just his scribble on the back saying that I paid him $125 cash. He advertises his business as a Auto detailing service, but it is really just a body shop that happens to have a vacuum cleaner. I left my vehicle there overnight with the promise that it would be clean in the morning. He called me at 5pm the next day and to tell me he needed another day. He called me the following day to tell me it was ready, so I proceeded to inspect the cleanliness of my car and I discovered my car was not cleaned at all. I asked him if he could do a better job, to which he replied that he had already worked on it for hours and that my car was too dirty for for him to get it perfect. He then said if i wanted it cleaned more thoroughly, it would cost me an additional $125! I immediately took my car to another auto detailing shop to ask their opinion. The owner of this place told me that my car had barely even been vacuumed much less detailed. He also said that if any of his employees ever tried to give a car back in this condition he would fire them. I paid an additional $125 (with a credit card and receipt) to this other place and got back a perfectly cleaned car. read more

I'm a life-long car guy and I recently purchased a 2014 GMC Acadia SLT with tons of options (from Carter Chevrolet). The only problem I had were several small dings and a couple of small dents. The original sticker on this truck was close to $50K! I've never put that many blemishes on all my cars put together -- and I've owned several Cadillacs, a few muscle cars, trucks and vans, five Corvettes, and a '32 Ford Highboy Roadster that won its Class at the Grand National Roadster Show in 2003. Enter Al Harmsen at Mobile Detailing, in Vernon. I was referred to him by my long-time pals at National Speed Center, just a few miles away in Manchester. The worst dent was right in the middle of the rear lift-gate, right on the lower body line, and it stuck out like a sore thumb. Thanks to Al, it's damn near undetectable. Another really difficult thing that also stood out badly was a "soft" impression-type crease on the passenger-side rear door. There were no outward signs of impact, but it appeared like something (or someone) large just leaned against it, causing a long wave above the body line and also one below. That's gone, too, thanks to Al's careful expertise. Granted, I still have a few minor "issues," that I asked Al not to mess with, since I also bought (what I call) the "Love Butter" treatment from Carter, which is a surface treatment that's supposed to make waxing it a thing of the past (for the life of the vehicle). I used to wash all my cars by hand. I'd detail them, use Mother's Clay Bar to remove surface contaminants followed by a nice coat of Mother's Carnuba Wax, and just love 'em in general. Regardless of how much horsepower my cars have had, I drive them gently, too. But I'm a bit older now. And since it's Spring, I'm having a tough time keeping up with all the nasty-colored pollen that keeps landing on it. "Stuff happens," right? In the past, I've worked at the area's most prestigious Cadillac Dealership (10 years), Auto Paint Distributors (five or so), the largest Oldsmobile Dealership (a few more), and been the Editor of Popular Hot Rodding Magazine, Drag Racing USA, and Drag Racer (almost 20 years). I speak from experience when I tell you that Al Harmsen is very well schooled in all the various substrates present in today's vehicles -- sheet metal, stainless, aluminum, hard plastic, soft urethane, leather, vinyl, and more. That very schooling has given him the experience and the knowledge necessary to make virtually any kind of repair your car may need. He also specializes in "Plastic Welding," a process that addresses rips and tears in soft urethane bumpers, facias, and filler panels. Not everyone does this, because not everyone has the proper (spelled expensive) equipment to do it. You'd be surprised to learn just how many dings, dents, spots, and blemishes are actually repairable in today's high-tech world. Even if your problem area needs paint touch-up or blending, Al can handle those concerns, too. This was the second time I have used these services and the results were really outstanding. I had an unfortunate spill in the interior that was resolved. But more impressive was the removal of all the scratches on the exterior. I drive a full size 4 wheel drive crew cab pick up and had acquired a fair number of scratches. The results were impressive. Had that worst experience here, today. When I initially called to schedule an appt, I spoke with the owner. I told him I would be using gift certificates that I purchased years ago (immediately, I sensed a change in his tone) Told me he couldn't find the paperwork associated with the name on the gift certificate, or by the person who bought it. The owner said he would honor the certificate, but sure hoped I wasn't one of those people who had come in, prior, without gift certificate....and am using it again!! WHAT?! Wait, first off...even if I thought that, as a business owner, myself.....I never would have said it to a customer. I assured him...I own my own business, I'd never try to do something like that. I dropped the truck off the night before (key in drop box). The owner called me bright and early to ask when I'd like to pick up the truck...suggesting 2:00. I asked if I could come earlier, because I had a bunch of errands to run....he said "SURE"....how about 12:00....and then he would eat lunch after I picked up my truck. I was relying on a third party to drive me to pick up my truck....they were running a little behind...and YES, I should have called to let the owner know I was running late....but I guess I was hoping my ride would show up sooner, than later. Complete bad judgement on my part...but when I tried to apologize to the owner, who called at 12:15, with major attitude...because apparently he was "hangry"! He told me he could just lick my truck inside the garage and take off for the afternoon...(threatening doesn't work, as a business owner, buddy). When I told him FINE...go ahead, lock my truck up....I'll be there later....he responded with "I wouldn't do that...that's not how I operate"! In response, I said....then why would you even SAY IT?!! Definitely knew what I was dealing with at this point. Tried to tread lightly....so...he aggressively asked me "we agreed on 12:00, WHAT TIME IS IT NOW..", when I tried to apologize and tell him I was relying on someone else for a ride...he said, yet again "WHAT TIME IS IT NOW"?!! Then proceeded to ask me if I'd ever been in the military....cause when you say a time you're going to be somewhere, you are there on time!! I'm sorry, but at the point (not knowing why the "military" reference what brought up), he said, a third time...."WHAT TIME IS IT NOW?!!" His aggressiveness was getting worse....so I told him I wouldn't have a conversation like this....and he said, yes we will....I had to hang up on him. Im completely astonished at his behavior. When I picked up my vehicle at 12:30....he wouldn't let the whole "being late" thing, go. I told him he was beating a dead horse...he didn't need to keep scolding me like a 12 year old. I also said I was surprised at his behavior, as a business owner...and he YET AGAIN, made reference to being late!! He handed me my keys....and said, you're all set...next time be on time!!!!? I walked out, not another word....you can't rationalize with crazy! I just said....."There WILL BE NO NEXT TIME"!! Worst experience with a business owner....EVER!
