They were playing Hawaiian music, which really made it feel like I was back in Hawaii. The food was delicious and the prices were very affordable. The guy who helped us was from Hawaii, and he told us that people there call them "uncle". The guy is around 60 years of and very nice guy. This is my favorite Hawaiian place to eat now. First time here, its a build your plate menu. I liked that it was bright and clean and they have a drive thru. My food was to go but I had to wait for the chicken that had to be cooked. I was given a free drink by super friendly staff as I waited. I ordered the teriyaki chicken and it was good. I was disappointed with the vegetables, when I first saw them on the counter they looked like they were over cooked and like they came from a can plus they were running low on them. I decided to give them another try after having a not so good experience the first time. Sadly, it was a disappointment again. The food is overpriced for the amount that you get. We ordered 3 mini local plates which combined had rice, mac salad, kahlua pig, katsu chicken and teri steak. The rice was old, dry and crispy in some parts. The kahlua was very salty. We paid and extra $1.99 each for the Teri steak and the portion was teeny tiny - looked like a keiki size! The chicken katsu was also underwhelming. I get portion control but portion sizes need to be increased for the price we have to pay. That will be our last visit there. He is the way all customer service should be. It was our first time in and took the time to break it all down for us. No rush and even gave us two complimentary drinks since we had to wait on two items. All the food looked fresh which was a bonus. I really enjoyed the teriyaki chicken, katsu chicken and Mac salad. I'm glad they offer mixed veggies now, my only gripe is that they were overcooked and mushy because it was probably sitting in the warming pan for a while and continued to cook.. I've been a regular customer at this location for a long time and have always known how great it can be. Unfortunately, today's visit was completely different and extremely disappointing. The staff appears to have changed, and one employee in particular--who seemed new--made this the worst experience I've ever had here. My husband and I have previously mentioned that this location has become very hit or miss, and today unfortunately confirmed that trend. The server was excessively rigid about weighing the food, making the experience feel uncomfortable and transactional rather than welcoming--especially considering this was a paid meal. Almost felt like I was in line for free food To make matters worse, burned and completely inedible katsu breading was placed on my plate. When I asked for it to be removed and replaced with edible meat, the server took the burned pieces and immediately threw them into the trash--clearly acknowledging they were not fit to serve. Despite this, they were initially included simply to meet a weight requirement - whatever that is. When I asked if the plates were truly 3-meat orders, the server did not respond and instead looked back at the scale. The entire experience was frustrating and insulting. I sincerely hope ownership or management takes a closer look at this location, as its current operations do not reflect the standards Mo Bettah's is known standards. It's a shame, to say the least. I had a feeling the portions would be generous, so I figured one, 3-Item plate lunch would cover at least two meals for me. Sure enough, the Ekole combo was more than enough. My selections included Teri Chicken, Teri Steak, and Shrimp Tempura with brown rice. The side Mac salad was creamy and yummy, so it was the first item gobbled up from the plate! I like that you can choose 3 sauces as well. Try the Yeobo sauce if you prefer a spicy teriyaki. I also ordered a Spam Musubi, which was nicely packaged. Worked out perfectly for my son because he easily grabbed it and took it to work! I guess I better head back soon so I can try one for myself! The dining area is very spacious! Mo'Bettahs needs to improve for a mo'bettah review. The service was quick and friendly. I have no problem here. The food, however, needs some attention. I paid the upcharge for the steak and 1/2 of the slices were very tough. This might be due to the fact that a whole steak was cut in slices then placed in a serving pan to be served later. I also ordered the Pulehu chicken thighs. They had a good char on them which gave them a good flavor; however, the thinner edges of each piece were so dry and hard I could not eat them. The biggest disappointment were the mixed vegetables. OMG, they were mush! If you have a weak stomach, don't look at the picture of the vegetables I posted. Will I return? Probably not. Twenty dollars and a lifetime of trust issues later, I opened my takeout box to find what I can only describe as an autopsy in progress. Let's talk steak: grey-ish, limp sirloin with a nice cool center. And by "cool," I mean refrigerator-chic, not Gordon Ramsay-approved. I eat rare meat -- heck, I've eaten things that still had a pulse -- but this wasn't rare. This was blue. As in, still mooing. As in, "should've been on an IV." The sauce? An artistic drizzle, as if someone gave up halfway through a sneeze. The meat itself was so grisly and tough I felt like I was trying to chew through a rubber flip-flop from 2003. At least the rice and mac salad were edible. When I called to express my concern (because I enjoy flushing $20 down the drain AND being disappointed in human interaction), I was met with a heartwarming "We're busy" followed by a cheerful "Call back later." Nothing says customer service like "we don't have time for you." I've had the chance to visit twice now and both times were different. The first time, the lady helping us gave us a rundown of all the meat options. We made our choices and she packed our plate. She used the scale to make sure we were given the appropriate amount of meat. The second time, a male worker helped us. Using the same scale, he hand picked different pieces of meat. However, if the weight was OVER, he would take the largest piece out and grab a smaller one. He did this multiple times...Good thing it wasn't rush time. I just felt it was weird for him to grab a piece and put some back after it had been on the plate just to get closer to the weight. I get trying to be close to weight, but it wasn't just with one piece, it was like 7-8 pieces later. I have tried all the chicken options and the pork. All chicken options are nice and juicy, during off-peak hours the chicken katsu does sit so I found that to be a bit dry. I loved both the teriyaki and pulehe chicken. Both moist and delish! The pork was nice and tender, a bit too fatty for my liking. We tried their teriyaki and spicy teriyaki (yerbo) sauce on the side. I loved this addition. The pulled pork was very nicely cooked and had a great smoky flavor. The teriyaki chicken was the real standout of the plate! The chicken was cooked to perfection and the sauce was excellent. Both my friend and I were extremely pleased with our meals. The servers were very friendly as they piled the food onto our plates. They weighed each serving of meat as it was added to the plate.
