This was the best thing I've done in a while. Good: - Super unique experience - you actually go all the way into the cave and it's pretty dangerous but we never got hurt - The experience is so cool since we crawl at some point completely inverted and go through tiny cracks - there are optional areas too so it's like a choose your own adventure! Great workout and I felt like it was harder than a v1 climbing route - The tour guides are great, super helpful and also keep us entertained as we wait for others to finish the climbs - The end involved sliding down the face of a mountain - it was super safe but I had a "oh shoot" moment - talk about facing your fears - I loved the history of the cave and learning more about the bone pile for example Bad: - It takes a while with a big group to get everyone through - Pretty muddy and you can get a bit banged up in the process - not for the faint of heart Overall so so memorable and I would recommend everyone go to this tour if you get a chance!

I can't recommend this tour enough! They are so informative and the tour is so cool! You go so deep down and learn so much about the caverns! There's a cool gift shop as well Youve gotta check it out! There's a touching wall and a surprise at the end!

The cave is about 2 hours drive from Sacramento. There are signs pointing toward the place as it was kinda secluded. We joined the 11am tour with about 20ish people. At the beginning of the tour, we descended to the cave opening and walked through small passages with some interesting features. Then we arrived at the spiral staircase which was the most interesting part of the tour. According to our tour guide, the staircase was made of scrap metal from the World War era. The descending steps were challenging for small kids or older people but manageable. The cave itself was not too big but it was very deep. We spent some time at the bottom of the cave with our tour guide told some stories about the cave. The tour was about an hour and it was a fun experience for us.

What an absolutely amazing experience!!! Such a cool cave, and our tour guide Don, was very engaging, knowledgeable, and accommodating with our large group. I hope to go another time!

Moaning Caverns was a great stop! Tickets were reasonably priced, which was nice. Since there isn't a whole lot to do beyond the tour, I'd recommend bringing a picnic to enjoy the views after your visit. The gift shop is there, too, and has some pretty affordable items if you're looking for a small souvenir. Mom Tip: I visited with my 5- and 7-year-old, and they were quite scared once we got inside, so we ended up turning back. I'd suggest showing younger kids a video ahead of time so they know what to expect before you spend on tickets.

165 ft deep underground - 235 spiral stair steps up and down. Even it's the largest and deepest cave in California - It's somehow easy and not bad at all for family with kids to enjoy. Lot of fun and informative tour (45mins time). We gathered at the gate for some general information about the cave's depth. Then we started with narrow small passages to the first stop where we can touch the cave and our tour guide gives us some interesting information why some parts of caves have that color or some area is made with different formation. At the end of the spiral stair, the tour will take picture of you and you can purchase at the gift shop ($15) then she provides us more information. It's interesting and amazing. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I did booked online and very easy to check in at gift shop. Our tour guide is funny, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. She provided us with detailed information about the cave's history, geology. I can see her passion for the job. Moaning Cave is very closed to Vallecito where you can visit the Gold rush town at the same day. We did have very short of time after visiting the Columbia State Park. That why we just took the easy tour - the last tour of the day at 4pm with 8ppl in the group. Next time we definitely come back and ready for the expedition tour - as know it will be more challenging with 5 hours of crawling and climbing through narrow paths. This is an awesome amazing experience to explore the nature. Highly recommended !!!!!

Great experience! I like coming here once a year. They used to have a zip line but now they have ax throwing. The gift shop has bags to search for emeralds, sea shells and fossils. The kids love it. The cave is amazing! The spiral staircase is beautiful but a bit scary to walk down and tiring to walk up. Worth it though:) this place is a must if you like Mother Nature.

My wife and I went on the expedition tour with Iiana and had an amazing time! She was so nice and knowledgeable, we were able to talk and joke around with her and she was very helpful with the tight squeezes throughout the tour. We would love to go back!

What an adventure to come here. We didn't know what to expect when we decided to come for this. Randomly discovered this and it was absolutely fabulous. We had a toddler with us so going 16 floors under the surface level is not something we would usually sign up for but he is a sport so why not! There are tons of stairs so won't recommend for folks with knee injury. There isn't any bending or crawling so folks with back issues can manage (speaking from experience with other caves) We came at a time no other folks were there so we kind of got a nice private little tour and the staff was amazing! They not only took us down and told us about the stalactites and stalagmites but it was amazing to see when the lights turn off how dark it gets.. it was extremely scary for that half a min but also super peaceful to be in this black space one can't imagine. I had never experienced anything this dark in my life so I quite enjoyed this first! My kiddo was scared for a split second but like I said he is a sport! I am definitely coming back here for the half day expedition tour someday in the future to get my adrenaline going! This is an amazing amazing experience and highly recommend it.

Absolutely an amazing experience! But definitely not for anyone who is even mildly claustrophobic! Very tight areas thats you need to squeeze through over distances. Must be in good shape with good upper body strength. Need to be flexible too. Going to get very dirty and wet at times. Guide explained everything in detail as you go through each section. 10 out of 10 for people looking for an adventure and an experience "very" few will ever know. Did I mention about not being claustrophobic..

The formations of the rocks underground are so beautiful and amazing! Yes, you do have to go down a steep narrow stairwell before you get to the spiral staircase, but it is so worth it once you get to the viewing platform below. We ended up having a private tour (just my husband and I) because the group of 28 girls were late getting to the site. Having a private tour was perfect because we got to ask a ton of questions. Plus, it was easy for us to hear the peaceful sounds of cave, such as water dripping (in different pitches) from the different rock formations. Great place to unplug and reset. The view topside is also beautiful. I agree with the other person, saying it is an Adventure Park is a stretch, but I get they are trying to attract people. Worth the $$

Ask the Community - Moaning Caverns Adventure Park

Do they provide uniform and gloves?

For our Expedition Tour which takes you underground for a crawling tour-Equipment Provided: Hardhat with light & gloves. You will need to bring however, your sense of adventure!

    Is there cell service there?

Not by Moaning Caverns. Some service a mile or so away by the road getting to Moaning Caverns.

    Do they still have repelling?

Moaning Caverns no longer offers rappelling into the cave. The Expedition Tour however, has reopened.

Are the activities outside free or is there a price for panning for gems and such?

No it is not free! All outdoor activities have a cost. I believe the axe throwing is $50 for a half hour for unlimited people.

Would it be ok to go here with a 9 month old?

I wouldn't recommend it since you are going down a bunch of stairs and will have to go back up. Someone in my group had a new born and it was hard enough for them just having him in a carrier.

They told me that they would wait for as long as it took if time was what my son needed. They were also very accommodating when my son refused the idea of going on a paddle boat and offered Kids Kove playground as an option if interested. The staff at Quarry Park were AMAZING!!! Prices were actually reasonable, so we booked Sunday-Tuesday. Check-in lines were long, but the self-serve kiosk was quick and easy. We got wristbands for the room and water park and headed straight to the pool. It was packed Sunday around 5 p.m., which was expected, so we stayed a couple hours and went back to the room. Food inside the hotel was either closed or overpriced, but the location is great--about 0.5 miles from Panda Express, Chili's, Costco, La Estrella (amazing Mexican food), and more. We ate at Chili's. Parking is $20/day. You can use the water park from check-in day through checkout, which is awesome. My 11-year-old loved the Howlers Peak Ropes Course. My 7-year-old and I tried it, but he got scared at the top--staff helped him down right away. I don't blame him, it's high! I only did the first level, but my 11-year-old did the second level three times. My 7-year-old also loved the arcade. Most attractions cost extra, but there are decent deals. The only ones I wouldn't do again are mini golf and bowling--they're very small and just okay. We had the unlimited family pass, so we used them anyway. Best part: the slides! I'm 32 and my husband is 34, and we had just as much fun as the kids. Big or small, all the slides were a blast. Honestly, one of our favorite family vacations. The room (Grizzly Suite) was clean and spacious for 3 adults and 2 kids. Beds weren't super comfortable, but that's typical. Cleanliness mattered most. Checkout was easy via text, but double-check your bill--they tried to charge us $60 for "missing" towels we returned. A quick call got it refunded, but I can see how others might miss that. Overall, we'll likely be back within the next year.

Easter weekend coming earlier this year I'm sure didn't help. We made the most of it. We booked a standard family suite for 3 nights. We added their breakfast club buffet for our time here and an unlimited eat and play package. The indoor Waterpark is included with your stay here. Our beds were comfortable, but the restrooms could use a vent and a deep clean about the shower itself. (See picture). I was emailed an offer to extend, bummed that when we tried calling the front desk. No one picked up and then we waited over 20 minutes to have an older lady working front desk that there was nothing left, so she's not sure why I got an email to extend. Room rates are cheaper when you book in advance or plan for longer stays, but overall we still spent a lot here. We should have just gone to Disneyland this time around. I like that it's convenient and they offer dining and booze on property, but like anywhere there's convenience; you pay the cost for that. We did everything we could possibly do with our kids here and they still spent most of their time at the arcade. The prizes and the ability to win more tickets were amazing. We were bummed our son wasn't more excited for the MagiQuest and the other activities offered on property. It was crowded everywhere we went here no matter what time of day it was. I recommend downloading their app to reserve tables, preorder food and drinks. We dined at their buffet for our breakfast club deal and they offered a little more than a continental breakfast with their omlet station. I made it a point to load up on protein and fiber. There weren't any employees that stuck out to me besides the gift shop ladies. They were actually friendly besides the guy that ran the buffet in the morning. Thank you. We enjoyed our trip here besides the crazy crowds. Our next trip we'll plan for an off season.

They have 18 interactive lanes. SUN - FRI UNTIL 5PM | $40/HR PER LANE and FRI 5PM - SAT | $45/HR PER LANE. Pricy, but I think that's still around the price of our bowling alley is back home. Shoe rental is $5 and if they have socks on hand it's $3. This looks like a really fun place to hang out and store your kids for a few hours while you gamble. It is expensive though and all of the machines take their cash card, like the casino rewards card they have a card system so there is no spontaneity when it comes to wanting to play a single game or two. This is how our BlVD is back home in Sacramento and probably how Dave and Busters is so it's not uncommon, but I prefer putting cash in a machine. When you pay cash you aren't committed to using a certain amount or making sure you have the right amount on your card. I really avoid these places do to this. Back in SF you can go to the Musee and it's a cash business. That's more my style. Next time my husband said we're skipping the Buffett and eating here or the steak house. Though once he sees the prices of the steak house, we'll be coming here for a burger.
